Last Condo (Cinco/Cinco Day):

Sorry to have been AWOL yesterday. It was a long, busy day, and as usual, I didn't get to sit down at the PC until very late.

Cinco has been continuing his lovely numbers. No lagoon visit yesterday during the day cycle - at least on record. However, he may have been there while I was out - little sneak! ;):p Today I have an errand I need to run, so he's doing his best to keep me home. Hopefully the next test will give me a permission slip. I'll be gone for 60-90 minutes.

Yesterday was Minka's chemo. To my amazement, her weight was actually up a few ounces! :woot: The oncologist was very pleased. Unfortunately, her anemia is worse. They gave her a shot of iron - she responded well the last time they did that, so they're hoping that happens again. An Internal Medicine specialist was consulted, and they decided to wait and see how her iron is next visit. If it is not significantly better, they'll start her on a supplement (Darbepoetin), but they're hoping to avoid it, as it is very expensive. I hope we can avoid it, too!!! The doctors think the weakness in her back legs may be related to the anemia, and want us to watch her to see if it improves (as if we weren't already watching her like a hawk ). She didn't want anything to eat yesterday morning, but I got about a tablespoon of baby food into her. I took along some turkey, and when we got back in the car after her treatment, I offered her a couple of slices. She wolfed it down! :) She ate fairly well the rest of the evening. This morning she didn't want the entree I offered (Dave's Chicken & Tuna Pate), but she jumped on the alternative - Avoderm Salmon Consomme. It's higher in Phosphorus than I would like, but she ate almost a whole 3 oz can, so I'm going to focus on the eating part and ignore the rest for now!!

Sasha is still having summer appy - although the weather cooled off here. She ate okay yesterday, with lots of seasoning, and the same today. She threw up a little this morning, but it didn't stop her from nibbling on her breakfast. I gave her some Ondansetron, just to be safe.

Harvey was slow to eat his breakfast, but eventually polished it off and has been begging refills ever since. I wonder if he needed his morning Pepcid to kick in, first? I started giving him some in the morning, as well as the evening, and I think it's helping him.

I need to run up to Napa (about 30 minutes away) to mail some wine to my sister that she bought while she was here. Stupid CA rules won't let you just mail wine via UPS - you have to go to a "wine shipper", and they are all located near the wineries. I hate afternoon traffic coming back - all the tasters headed home - so I want to get out the door soon to get back before the wineries start to close at 4-5. Cinco, Mama needs you to be rising on this next test, which will be without food! Please?

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Special prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Marje's DM, Chris' DM and Elise's DM.

Cinco is looking really good. I hope he lets you get out for your errand. I hope the iron helps Minka. That is good she has gained some weight. Sending good appy vines for Minka, Sasha and Harvey.

For some reason this tune keeps on playing in my head "splish splash, Cinco's taking a bath". He is doing so well Tricia! :D:D

Great news on Minka gaining a bit, you've been a wonderful job enticing her to eat. Paws crossed on the iron shot and legs getting stronger.

Good luck missing traffic today.

WOO HOO on Minka gaining a little!! That's just plain fantastic news!!

Ah ha!! Now I see where China got her idea to have a yellow AMPS!! Cinco!!

Was great that he went right back to the lagoon though....even if he had to overdue it a little! Hope you made it out to run your errand!

OK now Cinco....If you, China and Max should decide to head out for a moonlight swim, I hope you guys will be good kitties and stay out of the deep water!

What a great cycle for Cinco (after AMPS, that is). Good news about Minka's weight gain. I hope her iron will be OK so you don't have to do another supplement!

Have a great evening with the whole crew!

Ella & Rusty

p.s. Fantastic to live so close to Napa. I'd be there every week!!

Way to work that juice Cinco.

If you do need erogenous or aranesp so I think it's cheapest through Walgreen's Specialty Pharmacy. They will sell epogen one vial at a time and send it on ice in a day. I hope you don't need the info. Aranesp starts out more expensive but evens out in the end and less chance of antibodies. Another thing I wish I never knew about.

Thanks for visiting, Carla, Wendy, Chris, Ella Elise and Rhiannon.

I did make it to Napa. Thank you, Cinco. Traffic was a pain coming back, but not full on homeward rush quite yet. It took about 20 minutes longer to get home than it did to get there.

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA), we pretty much only go up when we have company that want to go. The wineries all charge for tasting now (some as much as $25 or even $50 to taste three wines!!), and the traffic is a nightmare. We actually enjoy tasting more in the hills in Eldorado County, which is east of Sacramento and about a two hour drive. There are a ton of wineries up there, smaller, less commercial, less crowded, with yummy wines and the friendly atmosphere Napa had 25 years ago. That's where we get most of our wines.

@rhiannon and shadow, had I known before I left, I would have been happy to drive a little further (15-20 minutes in moderate traffic) and check it out for you. Tell you what, you confirm they have it in their Yountville store and I'll run up there one day for you! However, if you decide to come check it out yourself, you'd better plan on meeting me for a glass of wine or lunch or something!

@tiffmaxee, I had to look up Aranesp to see it is the same drug they are talking about. The best price I can find is Costco or Sam's (GoodRx doesn't reveal the name of the vendor on that one). $2873! *GASP*!! I sure hope they don't want to give it to her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my last condo:

Awwww thanks for the offer you are very sweet but yes I can order from Amazon. I'm not sure you can ask questions there though - but I can ask you! I'm wondering how I'm going to go trying to stuff Vyktor into it with his arthritis. He gets pretty sore in his back end, do you think that would be a problem?

@Vyktors Mum, I'm not sure. I think it depends on how big he is, and how flexible - will he let you move his back legs around? If you do it gently? It unzips pretty far, so unless he's a really big cat, he doesn't have to bend alot to get in. I might have trouble getting Cinco into one, as he's a big guy. Harvey is average-sized, and he's no problem (except when he doesn't want to go in!).

Yay for Minka having a nice appy!! Turkey slices for a snack in the car? Yum! Paws crossed that she doesn't need that drug with the crazy price tag. Sending vines to all the kitties!

I'm pretty sure it's there.... it's one of their signature exclusive pieces....
I've been wanting it for 3 years now...
I'm not likely to make that trip while Shadow remains with me....so I just hope they continue carrying it for many more years. ( prob will)
but if you ever do happen in the store....
they have an awful lot of neat stuff....

Lookin' good, Cinco! Yay for Minka gaining weight and a happier appy!! Hopefully the iron boost they gave her yesterday will do the trick. The less commercial wineries sounds so much more appealing...we have some very small local vineyards here and visiting them is always so much fun. Too bad you had to go to Napa just to ship the wine, but you made it through!!
