Hi all - condo from yesterday linked here
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/5-5-bijoux-pmps-322-not-eating-vomited-earlier.229218/

Bijoux and I had a long night - we went to emergency vet last night around 8pm as she was not eating and BG was all over the place all day. She's had diarrhea and vomited a hairball once yesterday and then vomited back up a wet treat I gave her around midday. As we neared her PM shot she wasn't interested in food and while her BG was higher than normal I didn't feel comfortable giving her a shot given her vitals. We went to the e-vet and they found no obstructions and said she was alert enough to be a difficult patient (that's my girl!) so they wanted to give supportive care for potential GI issues. Administered fluids under her skin and gave anti-nausea meds.

This morning her BG was dropping rapidly as we neared shot time and she still was not eating. Tried a variety of foods. As she dropped into the 40s I gave a little karo syrup and she eventually ate some medium-higher carb food but not a lot. Her vet gave me an appetite stimulant which I administered but no action yet.

She's currently resting next to me and we're just taking a few moments to chill. I'm going to try to get to pet store later and get some alternative LC foods to try in case the Tiki Cat is the cause of the diarrhea.

We had a great few days so was getting overly optimistic, feels like a setback these last 24h but we're fighters and going to figure this out.

Sending lots of love to you all and your kitties today

Poor baby. Did the ER test for pancreatitis? If not they should have. Just an FYI when insulin not given you don’t need to give karo. If I understand correctly no insulin last night or this morning right?

Just looked at ss. Cats can have low bg when in remission. I think she’s very close to getting there. How old is she?
She's 14.5 years young :bighug:

I got scared when she was dropping so fast this morning and didn't show signs of interest in food whatsoever. I'm going to leave her be for a little while. And yes that's right, no insulin last night or this morning. Last I checked she's around 79-80 BG.

The emergency vet did not test for pancreatitis, and I didn't think to ask. They didn't want to run any bloodwork or anything to stress her further. They were also experiencing an influx of calls and visits last night so were a bit rushed.

Thank you for the guidance as always, Elise :)

My kitties had a GI bug -- nausea and vomiting and diarrhea. My vet gave me Cerenia for the nausea and an appetite stimulant (mirtazepine). I also give my cats S. boulardii when they have diarrhea. It's a specific probiotic that works wonders. You use about 1/4 to 1/3 of a capsule mixed into food. I also have blank capsules on hand which is especially useful with giving Cerenia. I can put any pill into a capsule without worrying if it will be bitter and cause my kitty to drool or foam. (I order capsules from Capsuline.)

Now her BG is on the rise again and she really hasn’t eaten more than a teaspoon or two of food. I’m so confused here and feel so bad she seems pretty sad at the moment just laying around

If she doesn’t improve tonight I’d ask your vet if a snap pancreatitis test might be a good idea.. It can be done in house. It just gives + or - though. The one that gives a score is the SpecFPL. It’s sent out and results in a day or 2. That +10 doesn’t fit. I wonder how accurate the device is.

Thank you! Planning on calling vet tomorrow. Bijouxs eaten a bit more food and is now grooming herself on the bed which is more normal. Still having some diarrhea but she’s a fighter so hoping things improve overnight and we can get back on track. Will ask about the pancreatitis rest as well!

agreed the +10 seemed like a wild jump. She’s reading at a 275 right now. I might have to give the blood test a go tomorrow morning

On Maxi’s condo it was mentioned that it’s not always accurate for some cats, whatever that means. It would be nice to compare but maybe not while she’s not feeling great.

Yeah I think after all the commotion the last 24h she would not be pleased if I tried to poke her ears just yet. Sleeping now and scanned at 231. Have a good evening, Elise!
