You guys are cracking me up. My kids laugh at me too, trying to take selfies of us, I’m hopeless.

Just general R stuff. Keep in fridge? It’s a vial so I have to put in air as much as I take out, yes? I don’t need to roll it or anything like that, right?

Thanks for keeping tabs on us. It’s happy tears the thought of having some control over these horrid rises. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh wow! Go Asia! I am glad you are experimenting with R. I found it not that bad, but it seems to give you an extra tool that you can use to steer numbers a bit. I always felt a little more in control with it. However, I imagine is it far different with a normal dose kitty. I remember trying to pull out .25u and worrying it was overdrawn.. But, you are a master at your craft!

It gives me some hope and I’ve been feeling pretty lost/hopeless with her FD recently. :)

Your doses are so large, you’ve never really had need for calipers. They are quite precise and I haven’t worried about inconsistent dosing since I got them. I had some seriously wonky syringes with crazy diagonal lines, lines well past the hub, not a big deal for humans on several units...really big deal on a cat where .1u makes a difference.

Yes, R in fridge. It is a clear insulin, I think you only have to roll those with a suspension. And yes, air in the vial like you would with other vials. Though with only using teeny tiny amounts, it's probably not as critical. I was never sure I got two drops of air in before withdrawing 2 drops. :p

Interesting theory above. I swear that happened to Neko sometimes. I'd test four hours after giving R and see nothing but flat or rising, then a much bigger change than expected after L kicked in. Not always of course.

I kept mine in the refrigerator. I did not put any air into my bottle, was never instructed to do that and you do not have to roll it.

It creates a vacuum if you don’t and it’s harder to pull liquid out as time goes on. Probably won’t be very noticeable on tiny amounts, but for Cerenia it will fight me to pull the plunger in as I’m pulling liquid out if I don’t inject the amount I’m drawing of air into the vial first.

The not always is the frustrating bit. I was always at the ready with Lantus because it happened so often, it was very stressful and “shoot low to stay low” was a joke for Asia on Lantus. So many other factors can impact how the insulin does what it does, Asia’s & Neko’s other medical issues likely contributed a lot to the not always.

I wasn’t a fan of hormones before FD, but teenagers are a cake walk by comparison! :joyful:

.5 123, +1 230! Over 100 point rise in 30 minutes! Now that takes skill!

I did shoot an hour later, but I wanted to see where the rise was with R without it being muddied by L, so I guess this one is collateral damage because I have to know what I’m doing before I can use R properly to help Asia. But still, 100 points in 30 minutes? :stop:

Great first trial:cool:
(with big gulpers the first R trial is often a non event)

That 33 at AM+5.5 caused a real panic...
Good move delaying the PM L in the interest of a clearer picture.

You gathered some solid data today. It can serve as the cornerstone from which you develop an R scale for Asia.
If you have not seen any, there are examples of BKs R scales on one of the tabs of his ss.

Not just the 33: the huge drop, the 33, and the carbs; it was a trifecta!

Thanks for that, so lots of trial and error to figure out how much works and where.

It really seemed to fence him in and lead him a certain way to some better numbers, even before the first dental. Once he got there it looks like the L took over for the most part until the R wasn’t needed anymore, or rarely. That’s what I’m hoping it can do for Asia, remind her where her lane is. ;)

You may have gotten there eventually with just the L, but popping up in mid cycle like he did would have made for a lot more frustration and prolonging. I’m sure ketones were a driving motivation to using R, but even if he weren’t ketone prone, it went a long way to get him where he needed to be. I always love looking at BKs SS, but I had different eyes this time, still just as beautiful and inspiring. :) p.s. I always have to scroll until the OTJ, even though I know what’s there, it’s the best part! :D
