Ugly bounce this morning. Zener feels fine. His appy is great. He did some yard patrol and is now napping on the bed.

OT: Anne has started on her journey home from Germany. She went to the fireworks on the Rhine and there were huge crowds with lots of drunks. Charming. So they went back to the hotel and watched a very impressive display from there.

Happy Sunday, LL!

Re: 5/5 Zener AMPS 398;+2 245

Hi Liz! Nice slide going on for Z-Man! Celebrating morning duty bean's homecoming, mayhaps? :) Hope Anne has a good trip back home. Too bad the crowd was raucous (they are German...) but it sounds like her view from the hotel was just as nice! What were they celebrating?

Hope you guys have a great day!

Courtney: I wasn't sure what the occasion is so I looked it up on wikipedia.
Rhein in Flammen (English: "Rhine in Flames") is the name of five different firework displays along the river Rhine in Germany. The displays take place annually, at various locations along the river. On the five different dates, brightly illuminated ships sail the river in an evening convoy for their passengers to see the full firework display at each location of the river. The firework displays are started when the ships arrive. During the firework displays in St. Goar and St. Goarshausen, the convoy waits statically between the two castles Burg Maus and Burg Rheinfels. On the river banks wine festivals take place that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The biggest "Rhein in Flammen" event takes place in Koblenz every year, on the second Saturday in August. The Bonn event takes place at the Rheinauen Park in Bonn, on the first Saturday in May.
The answer is "nothing". They are just celebrating.

I hope Zener keeps sliding today and Anne has a safe, uneventful, trip back home.

Re: 5/5 Zener AMPS 398;+2 245;+4 234

Zener seems to be easing down from that bounce. Paws crossed for blues later and maybe greens tonight?

Good to hear Anne is back soon and safe from the fireworks crowd. We have an annual Celebration of Light fireworks event over three days at the beach in Vancouver in August. Almost 1/2 million people attend per night. It can be really CRAZY! Some of the best views are indeed from surrounding buildings.

Re: 5/5 Zener AMPS 398;+2 245;+4 234

Come on Zener and let's see a nice slide. Glad he is feeling good all around today. That's great Anne is on her way home from Germany. Sending safe travel vines.

Anne provided some more details on the festivities. She should update the Wikipedia entry.

The Rhine in Flamen celebrates the beginning of the summer season. All the boats come from winter harbor to their locations on the river to begin offering cruises and day trips. The boats "present" themselves to their towns with the big fireworks display. The big park in Bonn was all set up with a carnival with rides, food stands and such like a state fair. It went on all day Saturday and the grand finale was the firework show.

Re: 5/5 Zener AMPS 398;+2 245;+4 234

Wow.....all we celebrate is Maplefest.
The maple sap is all cooked down to syrup, at various farms , and the public school has pancake breakfasts.
Woohoo....local celebration.

Re: 5/5 Zener PMPS 138

Slide baby slide!!!

Liz...you might not have seen my post before Anne went about Rhein Aflame. In six years living in Germany, we went so many times that I've lost count. I probably didn't notice the drunks because.....uh..oh well....forget that part.   actually, we usually had a private boat chartered because our squadron would all go together so all the drunks were close freunde.

Actually, no matter how often we went, we always thought it was amazing. It was as if the castles on opposite sides of the river were having battles. It was sooooooo cool. They usually did one around the fourth of July, too. Not for Americans but we all thought it was ;-)

Hope Anne has a safe trip to Phx and then home to Flag.

Re: 5/5 Zener PMPS 138

Hi guys,
The fireworks on the Rhine sound neat. I was in Duesseldorf once during marti gras. That was pretty spectacular, too. The Rhineland likes spectacle.

Nice slide today, Z man.

Thanks for all the visits during "Mannie Week in NYC"!

Safe trip home, Anne.

Appy is very happy tonight, ecstatic even. :-D I'm a little nervous about going to bed, I might lose a finger to a hungry cat. Tillie is eating well too. Anne is about to land in Phoenix and will overnight there, then get on the shuttle (3 hrs) to Flagstaff in the morning. Woohoo!
