Well, I gave Rocky a slight increase in insulin last night. He is now getting (f)1.0 instead of 1.0u. Let's see if it will help improve his numbers. I also started a new pen last night.

I fed him 1/4 can of the 0% NVIV for his first AMPS mini-meal this morning, and then the other (3) morning mini-meals he got the 3% carb Artemis Turkey Formula.

Hi Tina. Does he like the Artemis? Then again he eats the NV which Max wouldn't touch. I know how you are feeling right now but try to be patient. I know, easier said than done. Yellow is better than stinky pink!!

Hi Tina, Rocky is looking a little better today. I know it is frustrating, but he definitely is improving overall.

Good luck with the dosecrease, Tina. It's so hard when they keep changing their minds on which dose is going to work for them! :YMSIGH:

Rocky is back to stinky pinky this afternoon, dang it. Hopefully his liver can happily adjusted to this *slight* increase in insulin. The two yellow numbers in a row were nice to see this morning. I think yellow can be a healing color as long as it is showing up for several hours in a row. :-D

Artemis has changed the name of their canned "Turkey and Giblet" to just "Turkey Formula." It also has a different label.

The Artemis Turkey and Giblets is on Dr. P's list as having 4% carbs and 409mg of phosphorus. That's not a great number for phosphorus but it's a lot lower than FF. :thumbup

The Artemis Turkey Formula has a very loose pate´ texture to it, much more moisture than the firm pate´ of FF. I had to go to an upscale boutique pet food store to order it, but it costs a LOT LESS than the Nature's Variety Instinct.

The Nature's Variety Instinct canned foods are extremely firm/hard even though they are also a pate´. I always add water to all of Rocky's foods so the Venison that I feed him is very moist, looks a little bit like the consistency of a thick chilly after I mix the water into it. :lol: When i add the (1) TBS of water to his 1/4 can of Artemis it's nearly the consistency of a soup! I was afraid he wouldn't eat the Artemis Turkey, but to my great surprise, he loves it, licks the bowl clean.

I called and asked Artemis what the "as fed" value of carbs are on the Turkey Formula. It is actually lower than the Fancy Feast Chicken.

The Artemis Turkey Formula is 3% as fed carbs.

I should call back and ask the "as fed" mg for phosphorus. I bet it is also still lower than FF. I just looked at their ingredient list online again and I see something called "premix." I am going to call them and ask with that is..

*** I forgot to mention, it doesn't contain any fish.

I haven't weighed Rocky again but he seems a little "thick" to me. I am considering cutting back on his food after all of those late night emergency carbs he had to eat for a few days here and there in April..

Will cutting back his food intake, say by about 1/2 can per day, have any affect on his BG that I should worry about? confused_cat

UPDATE:

***At 4am (PMPS +7), Rocky's BG was 92. Worried that I won't be able to give him his shot, or that I will need to stall at AMPS in 5 hours. Just fed Rocky (1) measured teaspoon of MC Friskies Country Classic w/ (1) measured smidgen of Karo. Will retest at PMPS +9.

Looks like Rocky is liking the increase after all.Yea Rocky.
