I cleaned the boxes put fresh litter in. Got another lower sided box, and put different levels of litter to see which one she prefers. She seems to not like soft areas. Could that be causing more pain from arthritis?

I wonder... maybe it makes her feel more unstable?

Litter box issues are tough...

Just outside. Maybe her aim is off?
Jones did that when he was sick. He did it on the catch matt in front of the litter box upstairs. He went downstairs to go poo though just fine??? He became very fussy in his choice of litter. Ended up with Arm & Hammer - Clump & Seal.

I also did a complete clean of the litter box with Nature's Miracle and left it out in the sun for a few days.

If it is arthritis making it hard for her to jump in, the shorter sided box should be the answer. Perhaps she is still having some discomfort from the UTI and she is associating the box with her pain. How much longer is she on the AB?

If it is behavorial:

Did you recently move her box to a new location? Many cat like their box in a secluded quiet are of the house. Also , move any food or water that might be near her box.

There is a product call Litter Magnet and you add 1 cup of it to the litter. It attracts the cats to the box. I used it when Forrest was having issues. The company refused to tell me what was in it because it is a "proprietary blend" It smells like cat nip to me.

You could try some Feliway spray near her box and where she sleeps if it is anxiety or that she is stressed.

She didn't have a uti just an infection of unknown origin. The vet said when you give subq fluids and shots of any kind you can pick up an infection. There is 3 more days to the 10 day regiment.

No, have not moved her box. Her food is not near her 3 boxes. I have one in every room. It started before 3 days before the antibiotic. That's why I thought she had a uti. Nothing that I remember happening. Carpet cleaners were wed. GS was here fri night. Started Thursday last week.
Will see about the Feliway. She doesn't care for catnip. I know right? Is she really a cat?? :) thank you for the ideas. :) :bighug::bighug:

It might be arthritis some people get large storage bins and cut a door in them. Pee pads around the box also help with accidents. Sometimes you just need to replace the box if it's been a while. Plastic can trap odors.

Since you didn't get her urine drawn via cysto and cultured, there is also the possibility of a uti.

this is what I did, she won't do a big box, she doesn't like her face pushed against anything. We had to move it from the wall when she was about 2 years old. Never put it back.

I got nothing. You have covered everything I was going to suggest. Gizmo poos outside more than not but he always has. He had giradia as a kitten. I think that has something to do with that issue. And the constipation.

Sometimes bacteria is found via culture that is not seen via the urinalysis. But it looks like it might be something else. Neko sometimes had problems hunching over due to her arthritis. She would be better after her acupuncture treatments.

I am seriously concidering the acupuncture, the vet we saw that is new to the practice offered it free. But afraid of the stress on her, going to the vet for it. :banghead::banghead: oy vey these cats. I think her arthritis might be a bigger issue than we thought it was. On this last visit a week ago she noticed a "thickening" of her right knee that wasn't on the left. So we are watching it and comparing while she's at home, to make sure it's not getting bigger.

Were given cosequin but it seemed to not make a difference so we switched to the adequan. She is on her 13th dose. She has gotten a little better but still walking with slow definite steps and lays down slow. Not as slow. But pretty slow.

Neko laid down slowly with her arthritis. There could be spinal arthritis too.
I am pretty sure about 4 years ago she had xrays, and there was some narrowing of her spine right in front of her tail. (You couldn't go past the white patch on her back w/out loosing a finger) one of my friends cats kept jumping her from the back. I am guessing it's getting worse as she ages. She had lazer therapy for 12 sessions. Made a little difference. But the stress on her was not worth it.

Here is what worked for me. I would try different litter. IMO Tidy Cat even the so called odorless and unscented is very strong smelling. Couldn't use anything with baking soda either.

Open jugs in the store and smell them. Try the least smelling one you can find. For me it's Precious Kitty Litter and Wegmans Brand unscented.

There is 1 litter I know helped me re-train Smokey to the box. Nature's Miracle WITH Cat Attract already mixed in. Can also buy Cat Attract separate and add to the litter box yourself.

There is a new one out Touch of Outdoor. Both made by Dr Elsey.

Once Smokey was re-trained he never purposely wet outside the box. He missed sometimes because he just didn't go in far enough. Poop in a box, he just wouldn't do.

I had to totally clean, wash use brand new litter every 5 days or he wouldn't use it. Being I had 5 boxes set up, 1 box per day was totally stripped down and another set in its place while being cleaned and sitting in Sun for a day or two.

Hope you find a solution. Smokey was so use to not having a box that was big enough, clean and fresh litter for so long, a box was foreign it took awhile to get him re-trained.
