Good morning beans and sugar-cats,
I was surprised this morning to find that not a single bite had been taken of food from any of the 5 compartments of the auto-feeder. Usually at least one of my three kitties has eaten from at least 3 compartments.
I`m going to make another vet appointment for Lulu - she still has the runs, poor thing. This just can`t go on, something definitely is wrong down there, Forti Flora and pumpkin are not helping, so it seems.
Hope everyone has a really good day.

Thanks, Carla, we just got back. The vet said she hasn`t seen Lulu looking so happy and chipper in ages, and said I was doing a fantastic job managing her diabetes. Actually -- the credit goes to FDMB. Without you guys, I`d hate to think where we`d be now.:bighug:
I expected the vet would criticize the diet change from Rx dry food to FF and Friskies wet food, 100% wet food diet, but she didn`t. She examined Lulu and believes that the diarrhea is not a serious issue, more a lower intestinal bacterial infection, and prescribed metronidazole 62.5 mg 1 tablet q12. We`re also to continue with the Forti Flora. If things don`t get back to normal in 7 days, to call the clinic. I just gave Lulu her first tablet -- that was fun , took several tries (I hate giving cats pills), but finally got her to swallow it.

Boy, just took her BG at +5 and she has gone from 229 to 52. And this after a vet visit and having a pill shoved down her throat. I'm going to check BG again in an hour.

How wonderful to have the vet compliment your care and say how great Lulu looks! Nothing like a little positive reinforcement!

Sorry to hear about the runs. The Metronidazole should take care of it. Do you freehand or use a pill popper? I use this one, and it makes it MUCH easier to get the pill into the cat the first time. Also, if it's a tablet, sometimes it goes down easier if you slip it into a gelcap. You can get them at Thrivingpets.com. I use three sizes, depending on the pill or pills I need to put in them - 3,4, and 5. 5 is the smallest. These two things have made my life a LOT easier.

Sending good poo vines for Lulu!

Thank, Tricia, and also for letting me know about the pill popper, I`ll try to pick these up tomorrow.

Happy Election Day Lori! I'm sure you'll be glad to have it over. We just ot our first piece of literature in the mail for the federal one this year.

Great vetty report. Paws crossed the new meds do the job. I've seen others have success with it. Have you ever tried pill pockets with Lulu? The dog allergy free duck and pea version are OK for diabetics. I just break off a piece and wrap Neko's pill in it and down it goes.

Nice cycle today - good catch on that 52! :D

Thanks, Wendy, I'm glad it's over. I'm so cynical about politicians. I did my duty, though, and voted. I think I'll run over and pick up some pill pockets right now, I think I traumatized her when I gave her the pill. She hasn't even eaten the treats which she usually gobbles down. I hope I haven't caused a sore throat.
Edit: our local pet health food store closed at 7, so will get some tomorrow. Poor Lulu.

What a lovely vet report! It's always great to hear when the vet thinks they're doing well. We know we do everything we can for our kitties, but that confirmation that it's working is always good to get! :) I hope the Metronidazole sorts out her digestive problems for her - with that sorted as well Lulu will be feeling awesome! :D

Thanks, April, I hope it works. I feel so sorry when poor Lulu makes a mad dash for the litter box -- bless her little soul, she always gets there on time. I suspect her PM shot was a fur shot, she hasn`t eaten much this evening and I was afraid I`d see a big drop, but her BG is up. Anyway, the auto-feeder is set up and I`m going to bed now. Have a great night.
P.S. It`s been a very good evening in Alberta tonight :D

Aww how sweet of her to always make it to the litter box in time! :) I wish I could say the same for ours - at least 2 of them if not more haven't made it on occasion before now (though as I think that was down to a bad can of food, I'm not sure they could have done...they at least make the vinyl floor instead of the carpet which is probably all I can really ask)!! I guess you'll find out tomorrow if it really was a fur shot or if she's just going to hang around in blue tonight - though if it was a fur shot, it happens to all of us from time to time and I'm sure she'll be right back on track tomorrow. :)

I hope you get a really good sleep tonight - I'm sure you must need it after the last 2 nights. :bighug: And I'm very happy to hear it was a good evening! :D

Your people must be winning in the election! ;)

Punkin took metronidazole several times and it helped him a lot with diarrhea. It has anti-inflammatory properties as well as being an antibiotic. I've been told it's quite bitter, so getting it into something else will be helpful. We used the pill pockets and one huge benefit from them, well 2 benefits - it seals in the bad pill taste and it also doesn't stick to your fingers. You know how when the pill gets wet with saliva, it then wants to stick on your finger? well the pill pocket won't.

I had to give it to punkin for something like 40 days, and i wrapped the pill in pill pocket and then put him on my lap and poked it down his throat. About day 18 he woke up and realized he liked the flavor - for the rest of his life I just put a little pill pocket around his pill and then i threw them on the floor. Easiest pill giving ever. I trained our civvie, Anya, to eat little balls of pill pockets on the floor thinking that if she ever has to have pills, maybe it'll work for her too. Just a thought. And because I can't resist sharing the cute little guy, here's a video of him with those pill pockets taking metronidazole:

@manxcat419 - thanks, April:bighug:...she does make it to the litter box with all four paws in but sometimes her little bum doesn't quite get there and the poop lands right outside; so I have paper towels spread out around. Oh, also...I took a look at Rosa's SS and after seeing how many all-nighters you've had -- I have nothing to whine about:p
@julie & punkin (ga) - thanks Julie:bighug:...I didn't have the heart to put Lulu through the torment of me forcing the pill down her throat, so I did not give her last night's pill. I think that's why she was avoiding treats...the bitter taste of the pill. I'm going to head out for some pill pockets pretty quickly and use those. That video made my day! Such cute kitties, happily taking their medicine :cat: (As for the election, I am just happy that the people of Alberta finally clued in and got rid of that elitist government with their entitled attitude, who have been in for 44 years, wasting taxpayer money on stupid things like private planes, fancy offices, etc. and never taking accountability for their actions.)

It sounds like she's doing her very best for you! Paper towels works just fine - we have a plastic sheet under the one litter box here that's on carpet instead of vinyl so any near misses are easy to clean up! I don't think it matters too much in the end if it's one all nighter or 10 - once you're tired, you're tired. And I was just a little paranoid with Rosa at some points - there were nights I could definitely have left her earlier, but wanted to see her past nadir just in case - I think that was because her numbers were so horrible to begin with that if I saw green or blue I tended to stay up a bit longer with her...and in the end of course green and blue was all I saw! ;)

It looks like last night probably wasn't a fur shot for you in the end - it looks like her number's around where it usually is at her AMPS. And if it was, it obviously didn't make too much difference to Lulu overall. :) :bighug:
