Good morning, Lantus Fambly!

Binks and I are feeling snubbed by our 'born with 'em, can't choose 'em" family-
so are running to our "these guys are great, let's adopt 'em" family to share our tale of woe with sympathetic ears.

Our cousin has a horse running in the Kentucky Derby today, so the entire clan flew out Thursday to witness the grand event.
I arrived home late Tuesday to find the lil Grey Ghostie frantically searching through the mail- and when I questioned him-
he was muttering something about a 'lost invitation'...then finally threw his little paws in the air in frustration,
shook his tiny lil head in disbelief, and threw himself down on the floor in abject despair.
Then he dramatically covered his eyes with one paw, and pointed the other shakily at the phone.
Sure enough- voice mail enlightened me to the cause of his upset...
not only were we NOT invited to attend what we have always considered the race of the year-
they added insult to injury by insisting that we drive them to the airport! :o

When poor Binksy finally felt able to discuss the situation, he tearfully told me
"Mama, I would give my left testicle to be in the stands to watch the Kentucky Derby!"...
and I just didn't have the heart to point out that he had already sacrificed that tiny gem to lessen the stray kitter population

Other than this admittedly minor debacle, things are well in Cuddville,
with the exception of ugly time restraints keeping us from visiting condos.
I've been pulling double temp shifts during the week- and as I am no longer a young'un...fall into bed pretty quick when I get home.
The upside of this is that all three kitties miss me during the day, so we all share cuddles with minimal fighting at night.
And due to his daily boredom, Binksy is on cuteness overload these days. :-D
He meets me at the door in the evening prancing with excitement- and after welcome home cuddles, races to the food dish.
He'll gobble down a couple of bites, then dash over for a loud chat through the bedroom door with the girls-
"I'm having Friskies Turkey Soup...what are you guys eating?"...then back to his dish for a bite- and a mad dash to the couch
to check out my dinner and to tell me about his day!
What a little doll...my days never fail to end with me laughing at my sweet little Manxie's antics.
And he continues to throw pretty little green numbers whenever tested.
He's got a birthday coming up this week, so he'll get to have his own condo that day. :-D

So now...off to visit condos!
If you watch the Derby today, we'd love it if you cheered loudly for Rousing Sermon...
and if they flash a picture of the owners in the stands- we'd feel vindicated if you secretly flip them the bird for leavin' us behind!!!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Oh My dear Celi & Binksy!! How could anyone do that to you!!!
You can pick your friends but you cant pick your family! Hey mine is mostly all in Florida, & also having a big party today, but I am here taking care of my sweet Moonie!!! But Look at it this way
You are having Loving cuddles, purrs, hugs, and scritches, and are so loved by all in your house...
How many relatives give you all that??? After Hi! How are you & what's doing, it's all downhill after that!!
Granted the race would be quite a rush, but you can watch it on your big screen, surrounded by furballs that are Thankful for your Presence!!!
Enjoy your day with the Beasties, Hugs them Tight--WE LOVE YOU!!Watch the race & we'll cheer for the horsie!! OK? Hugs & Love from us!!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Hi Celi and Binks for shame on them for leaving you behind but we also will watch for your horse at race time today ((((hugs)))) from us

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

love your story telling.
sure hope you could not make that drive to the airport since you were conveniently at work???
how rude

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

The "Celi Airport Shuttle" was at 4am...so we couldn't gracefully decline.

Here's the crazy thing...I didn't even realize Larry had a contender until I read it in the paper couple weeks ago.
And I'm with Michelle...in my eyes...what an unbelievable realization of a life-long dream!!
I'm totally thrilled for them. Next to "Manx/Tortie-Smacking", my all-time favorite sporting event is horse racing...
haven't missed watching a derby race since I was a little kid.
Truth is- we couldn't have afforded the trip anyway, but it's just so fun to pretend outrage :-D

And Binks is such an inventive fella, he's arranging his own festivities for the day...
an admittedly white trash derby version, but infinitely more fun!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Oh Celi and Binksy, I've been wondering you two were lately. Hey, just tell them to take the airport shuttle or better yet, taxi! That will teach those relatives leaving you and Binksy behind. You all are coming to the beach party tonight at Raja's and Shadow's, right! Missed your pics around here. Have a nice day, Celi and Binksy.

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Family -- can't live with them, can't throw them under a bus. I do hope you forget to pick them up at the airport.

I love how Binks misses you during the day. He's such a sweet guy.

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

oh, i'm so sorry for your misfortune (did ya really want to spend days hanging with the family?) but you totally had me laughing. loved the "throw them under the bus," sienne!

i've also been missing you! at least your FDMB family enjoys your presence and doesn't use you for a taxi service! couldn't you at least oversleep . . . . ;-)

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

you do know, don't you, that if you get tired of temping you could write a series of books on the adventures of Binks and the Tortie Girls?

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Good to hear from you, Celi and Binks! Good luck to your horse - that is totally cool. Does Binks like mint juleps?
Liz

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Binksy! Celi! 'bout TIME you showed up again! We miss you both terribly!

Wish I'd known your cousin has Rousing Sermon - I would have put $2 on him...unfortunately he wasn't one of the ones I chose yesterday....for my big whopping $4 bet. I know NOTHING about horse racing but last year gave a friend $2 to bet for me and I WON! My $2 got me $53 so had to double my bet this year....$4 worth of dimes and nickels... :-D 'Done Talkin'' is gonna just run over everyone else.... ;-)

BIG HUGE HUG! Please quit being so scarce!!!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

thanx for the much needed laugh! and wow, a horse in the Derby! will definitely watch and cheer (and 'bird flip as necessary').

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Hi Celi!

What a loss on their part, not having you with them to have fun with! To ask you t o take them to the airport was really bad manners. You're better off not going then going with people who don't appreciate the beauty of your soul.

We love you!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Wow! Are you going to bet on the family horse? Or do you like the romantic idea of "Silver" winning with a masked jockey up!

I guess we'll all be watching the Derby this afternoon.

I like Bink's choice of hat!

Have fun, and keep them waiting at the airport on the return trip

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Nice to see you Celi and Binks, missed you here a lot, and all your funny pictures. Love the hat one. Good luck to your horse. I may have missed the derby though, its afternoon here now, but I'll look anyway.

I like this quote Roni!
You are having Loving cuddles, purrs, hugs, and scritches, and are so loved by all in your house...
How many relatives give you all that???

Hope you enjoy the derby on the big screen with all your cuddles and purrs today!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Funny condo today!!! We'll be looking for Rousing Sermon!

Mike is a Kentucky boy....grew up on horses and his sister is a horse trainer in Lexington (Keeneland is the big racetrack there). She started out as an exercise rider.

We always had Derby Day parties and made burgoo and mint juleps. One year, I couldn't find any fresh mint and so I just put mint extract in them. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile They tasted like Lavoris    I told Mike "hey...I'm a Texan and we don't weaken our bourbon with mint and sugar!!".

So...here's to Rousing Sermon!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Oh my gosh!! I can't believe there is another person out there that is as crazy about the Kentucky Derby as I am! I have watched every Derby since I was a little girl and even have a scrapbook with all the original newspaper clippings of when Secretariat won the Triple Crown. I've been to the Derby a few times in college when I was dating someone that was from Louisville, but never was able to sit in the stands, but was on the lawn with all the other poor people. But we did party hard!

I can't believe your family didn't send you an invitation. How rude! Even though you didn't get to go, I'll still cheer for Rousing Sermon (what a good old Southern Baptist name!). I never knew anyone that had a horse in the Kentucky Derby. How fun!

Loved the picture of the Kitty Kentucky Derby!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Celi, you made my day! Bless you and you stories.

And what a beautiful horse. Do you know the story behind the name?

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Hi Celi. I'll cheer for Rousing Sermon. I always watch The Derby.
I'm glad you're back :-D I hope you have a good day.

How's this one?

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Awww, my sweet sweet friend. What an awful mean thing to do to you. They should have handed you a plane ticket, and begged you to accompany them.

I rooted for the 'family' horse anyway. :-D

I miss you and the furries, and look forward to Binksie's condo. :-D

Great Big Cyber Hugs

Hi, Tena!!

Now, I know y'all will think this is straight from my imagination, because you've gotten to know me and my wild behavior...
but this the true story behind the name:

Our great grandfather Williams was the first minister in the state of Idaho for The Church of Christ (New Testament Christian, not LDS).
His favorite saying was:
"It isn't need or a miracle that brings the wavering heart to reverence...it is more often accomplished by a rousing sermon!"

I myself take after his irreverent wife, great grandmother Williams- whose favorite saying was:
"That child's mouth just runs like a clatterbone over a goose's ass!"
(I'm sure you can guess who she said that about most often :-D )

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

"ummmm", she says, finger in dimple, "would that child by any chance, be Celi?"

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

We'll be looking for Rousing Sermon!

Hope you looked at the back of the pack, Auntie Marjorie...
or you missed him!
This would not have happened if they had let ME ride him!!
Binks

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

8th place was a very respectable showing! I think he was 8th, right? They spend too much time on the favorites and not enough time on the rest of the field. Beautiful horse and a beautiful story behind the name.

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

This has been a fabulous condo today Celi - thanks for starting it. Interesting story about his name and relation to you - cool to know someone who is related to a Kentucky Derby owner! 8th is very respectable and if he had to lose, it was to a rookie jockey from Vancouver who had to be convinced to go there!

I've always loved horses but only visited the track once in a while. I have a friend who rescues cats at the track - people dump them there
She owns a horse and the silks have cats on them. She wants me to make silks for another horse she is getting, but the owners can't agree on the colours yet so I haven't started. There will be cats pictures on that one too! I'm sure horses run better with cats on them.

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

I grew up a half mile from Belmont and my way to school took me past the stables area of the track. Oh, I wanted a horse so badly! I even used to buy cans of Old Kentucky pipe tobacco because they had a horse-naming contest every year at Kentucky Derby time!

Sorry that Rousing Sermon lost. He is a beautiful horse. I was a good race. I'm very glad that none of the horses got injured.

Great pic of the cats in the starting gate. They don't look too eager to race!

Thanks for the great LL condo today, Celi!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Well, Binksy your cousin came in 8th., not bad at all!

Sorry you couldn't go but you are a big winner here. Anyway, I think this is what he really wanted

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

Gosh, I'm glad I got home in time to read Binks' Derby day condo! Nice hat too Binksie!

Marje has got me thinking about the KY food that I never heard of before we lived there for 3 years. Burgoo I had never heard of, also a hot brown - a heart attack and a stroke between two slides of bread.

Thanks for the laughs, what a great condo!!!!

Re: 5/5 LOOSE LIPS- Binks & I are miffed at being "Left Behi

so what IS a burgoo? we don't talk like that out here in the northwest!
