I'm late in posting today... waiting to see what PMPS would bring. He had a smile curve today... yellow... blue... yellow.... so obviously I gave him too little insulin this morning when I guessed how much to give ... but at least today held no drama for us!

He ate fairly well overnight. Didn't want to eat a whole lot this morning. I syringe fed him two 10cc syringes of the renal food. Gave Cerenia "just in case" he was feeling "off." I later got him to eat a small meal with forti-flora on it (which is good because when he was feeling really sick, he did not care about forti-flora at all and would not touch the stuff.) He seems happy and is purry and his usual sweet self. I tried giving him this Kidney Support Gold stuff, but it tastes so awful that I will never give it to him again. I'm not doing that to my sweet baby. Unless... I can get it in a gelcap. I gave it to my Tabitha while she was still alive... but you have to work fast or the gelcap dissolves. I need gelcaps that don't dissolve for about five minutes so you can get them down first.

I'm glad he's happy and purry.
I was going to try that Kidney Support Gold stuff, and you just convinced me otherwise.
Hi! Yes, he is a real sweetheart and takes almost all medicines like a champ!.... BUT it almost made him foam at the mouth. I just don't want to make him miserable. I'm happy to give him other medicines that he doesn't seem to mind and many go into a gelatin capsule if they are bitter (like the Cerenia) and some tiny ones can be combined into a single gelcap to make things easier... BUT... he hated that stuff. He never acts like that when I give him his Cabergoline (which is reputed to be bitter) that is "fish flavored." Thanks for stopping by. I'll stop by to check up on you, too!

Thanks for the update! It's amazing how quickly you can get disappointed by a string of blues with yellow bookends, when you've been spoiled by the greens! Glad to hear he is still eating though. You are such a pilling expert, I still don't have the knack. I have all these gelcaps and I can NOT get that stubborn girl to open her mouth for me.

I HAVE to ask. How do you know the Kidney Support Gold tastes awful?? I confess I tasted Minnie's orbax because she loved it. I had no idea what "malt" flavor meant (it is not one of the options for compounded stuff either) so I thought maybe I would have a better idea by tasting it myself. BLECH. It was bitter and revolting. Mind you, she washes her own backside and doesn't puke so I guess our tastebuds differ.

I've always been curious about that kidney support gold stuff. Do you think it helped Tabitha?
Those greens definitely become addictive.:D Darcy has been a man on a mission lately. I bet it won't take much to get him green again.
Sending a tonne of eating vines to Darcy.

The good news is the 7+ unit depot is now gone, might make it easier when you play "dialing for doses". My acromegaly mentor Julie (&punkin) used to call it that. Sort of describes the free fall down when you've got the depot confusing things. If possible, I'd try to stick with the current dose. However, I know Darcy will probably throw a monkey wrench in that plan. :cat:

How has Darcy's weight been trending with his up and down appy?

Yes... hmmm ... malt... I always imagined some sorr of malted chocolate candy of something. I guess that was waaaayyyyy off base!

I need to weigh him. The vet said he had lost two lbs. but that was on the 23rd of April. He doesn’t look as bad to me now as he did last week.

Darcy +4 was 95. Do cats get hiccups? He seems to get them sometimes.

LOL I did have a cat who got hiccups but I think his was due to that he had no teeth and he ate fancy feast pates but he loved dry food. I had to buy him the duck dry from Chewy because duck is considered a cool food and that is needed for kitties with feline stomatitis. Anyhow, I had read that it is ok for cats to eat small dry kibble when they have no teeth, because they take it straight down the center of their mouths, and I figured this must be why sometimes he got the hiccups because the times he did get the hiccups was when he decided to eat some of the dry food.

Here is a link about feline hiccups, in case you want to read up on it :)

And I am tickled to see those bg numbers going on for Darcy and tickled of your good news with Darcy.
I have all well wishes for Darcy.

I'm late to this post but just wanted to chime in on the Kidney Support Gold. I've been giving it to Fred for...oh, maybe 3 years now? About when we saw the changes to his kidneys on ultrasound. Anyway, it's supposedly "bacon flavored". I don't think he loves it or anything, but he'll eat it. I think it's a love it or hate it thing for most cats. I also give him the Life Gold. I'm either a sucker for Pet Wellbeing's marketing, or they may work a bit.

I was also giving Fred Standard Process RenaFood, which was a tablet I ground up and put in his food. But after the diabetes dx, he decided he REALLY hated that, so I had to cut it out. But many cats take it with no problem.

Good morning Suzanne. I hope Darcy is continuing to improve. It’s been quite a journey watching Darcy’s numbers go down, insulin reduced, daily vet stays for fluids and his test results. Feline Diabetes is certainly not easy or all the other issues our kitties suffer with but every moment of improvement and joy :joyful: we get to experience certainly helps along the way. Wishing you all a wonderful day, not too much drama, and lots of hugs from us :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh, and I didn’t taste the kidney support stuff... I think I did before— in years past and it wasn’t bad from a human perspective. I don't recall it tasting like bacon.... kind of herbal and flowery. Darcy however really reacted to it and he never usually reacts to anything -- I thought he was going to vomit. I may gel cap it... but you have to work fast because they start to dissolve quickly. Or I will find something else to give him (not a nasty liquid).

Back to 2 tomorrow.
I have no idea what to give. I gave 2.75 today and he really hasn't done much yet. Three too much... two too little... 2.5 too little...

He goes lower at night... wish I could do a smaller dose at night, but I don't see that working out with a depot insulin because I won't get a direct correlation between the evening dose and his response to it.
Signed,
Clueless in Georgia.

I love it! Dialing for doses! Is Julie & Punkin still with us on the board?

Sorry, I have been busy today. Looks like he had a good night. Must be frustrating with the insulin and the R knowing what to do. I'm so happy he is home. You can monitor him better. Good luck, Suzanne.
