Billie's appy is off again tonight which is scaring me. She was eating okay earlier but her appy declined as the day went on. She has been grazing more since getting her PM ondansetron but not eating a lot at once. I broke out some Trader Joe's tuna for cats and she thought that was pretty interesting.

Also, her vet scared me. I talked to him today and he said that chronic pancreatitis can't cause lasting nausea like this. I know that's not true because I know there are kitties with pancreatitis who have periods of chronic nausea and need to stay on ondansetron. But he still scared me because there could be more going on. He thinks it might be worth going further with diagnostics for IBD/lymphoma or assuming it's IBD or lymphoma and treating based on that assumption. I am waiting on a call back from the IM vet tomorrow.

I just want Billie to feel good and eat. She had a very normal poo this morning and no vomit, so everything is exiting the way it's supposed to. In general, she is acting like she doesn't feel so hot tonight. She just seems off. I'm thinking of giving a bigger ondansetron dose in the morning. Whatever problem she does have, whether it's just pancreatitis or something else, it seems to be helping (or at least it was helping before I tried stopping it and threw everything off), and maybe she needs more right now.

I'm also thinking about getting another fPL done. When she last had it, she wasn't symptomatic and the results were 4.5. If I get her tested now when she is symptomatic and the result is higher, that might lead me to think that she is having a flare and that would explain this problem.

I'm not sure what's up with this PMPS either. Yuck. I hope tomorrow is a better day. Sending lots of vines to all the kitties and beans needing vines.

Hi Deanna,
I'm so sorry that Billie isn't feeling her best right now. I think having the spec fPL done is a good idea. At least it will tell you something specific. The prospect of more and more tests to rule out this and that isn't very appealing! I hope that the IM vet will be able to set your mind at ease.

Thinking of you and sending many beautiful vines to Billie,

Ella & Rusty

I know what you are talking about... we are doing that too.
obviously i like ultrasounds... since i've done two in 6 months.
sending appy vines for Billie.

I'm sorry Billie still isn't feeling well. It's not true that inappetence doesn't last that long with pancreatitis. I just looked through my journal and the first time he got sick he was on ondansetron for five months. I also gave him some cyproheptadine too. He wasn't getting enough ondansetron. I started with only 1 mg when he needed 2 mg.

Thanks for the visits and the vines Ella, Rhiannon, and Elise. Elise, that's good to know. My vet is very nice but isn't always right about things. She has grazed some more but seems uncomfortable. She keeps going in the litter box and not doing anything - 3 times now. I don't know if she's constipated or if her stomach just hurts. She peed once so I'm pretty sure it's a poo issue. Neg ketones. I made myself some pasta and she came running when she heard the sounds of people food being made, which is normal for her. She's not lethargic. I just freaked out because she went under the bed, but she came out a few seconds later with a toy in her mouth. That's a good sign. But she clearly has some stomach issue going on. I hope it's just constipation and she passes it. I hate to think that she's in pain.

If you can get some rotisserie chicken that might tempt her to eat. I think getting another spec fPL is a good idea. I think you said last time she hadn't fasted - I scheduled punkin's blood draw for as late in the day as possible, right before pmps, and then I didn't feed him after +3 or so - which gave him a fairly long fasting time.

Sending healing vines to little miss Billie!

That's really smart Julie!

Thanks @julie & punkin (ga) ! That makes sense. I should be able to just call the vet and set a time to come by even if our vet doesn't have openings, because I would just need one of the vet techs to draw blood. I'm considering doing it tomorrow. If her appy isn't better in the AM, I think I should get an appointment. She did perk up a little over the past hour. I don't know what changed but she seems a little less off. She did some sprints around the apartment...it was kind of like a Happy Crap Dash without the Happy Crap. I think for her that's a sign that she's trying to get something out.

Thanks Julie - we have poo! Those must have been some powerful poo vines. Most of it was basically a poo hairball. Very thick and dry. So maybe that's what was making her uncomfortable. That explains the straining in the litter box. I hope that's all it was and she feels better tomorrow.

aw, poor little girl. Good to know what was going on. Have you tried giving butter, olive oil, coconut oil, or even Vaseline as a hairball remedy?

Yes, she loves olive oil! I just discovered that recently. I used to give her Vaseline and she likes that too. I gave her a little bit of olive oil earlier tonight after she was straining.

Some canned pumpkin or squash baby food in her meals could help, too. It could have been constipation, or it could have been gas. The behavior you describe is exactly what Harvey does when he has gas. The vet told me to get some baby gas drops and give him the infant dose. I put it in his food and it seems to help.

Sending lots of healing vines Billie's way. :bighug:

Deanna, the one side effect Max gets from ondansetron is that his poop gets dry. Even before FD that meant I'd give him miralax 1/4 teaspoon once a day or every other day. Now with FD and without ondansetron he gets it day. I also give him 1/4 t pumpkin daily.

Detective Poo reporting for duty! :) Sending more poo vines. Excellent advice all around! LantusLand has many poo experts. :p :p
