I noticed this morning when entering AMPS there is a little drop down box in upper corner on my ss that says anonymous python and anonymous gopher.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I see another member has left. Sure hope her kitty stays safe.

Paula, what have you been smoking, LOL. Looks like Smoky is trying to clear the bounce. I have to go look at my SS now to see if I have anonymous stuff.

I think what you are seeing is two people who were looking at your spreadsheet and had their cursors parked on a particular box. That is, if you saw their names assocuated with a particular cell. If it was just up top, it means they were looking while you were there. I have noticed anonymous Python too.

If you want to test it out, let me know and I will go open your spreadsheet while you are looking and you can see if I am there--whatever I look like, I don't even know.

I am thinking people can set it up somehow to show up as anonymous or with a name that is not identifiable with their FDMB persona. You can see why that would be useful for some folks. Now, if a python and/or gopher cross your actual path this morning...

I think that the names that show up are those persons' Google names, not their FDMB names. So, assuming that you checked the "anyone with the link" in the share box, "Python" and "Gopher" have the link. Unless you gave out the link to people not on the FDMB, they are FDMB members. Although I suppose they could be hackers!
Perhaps @BJM might be able to tell us.

The "anonymous animals" are a google indicator that someone is viewing your SS. I've experimented with it by viewing P's SS from different devices at the same time, and it's random and we're never the same animal twice in a row.
I might be "anonymous armadillo" when I look at Smokey's SS, but then I'll be "anonymous orangutan" when I view Doodles' SS.
It's nothing anyone sets up, or anything we control. Just an indicator of viewers on your doc. So if you have 8 anonymous animals on your SS, feel flattered! (or chew your nails off because your cat is having a hyp0...)

Other people’s names are only shown when you give them view or edit permissions individually or as part of a mailing list.


If you set your file permissions to "Anyone with the link", you won’t see the names of people viewing your file. Instead, you’ll see others labeled as Anonymous and each anonymous user will be listed as a different anonymous animal.


If you set your file permissions to “Anyone with the link”, but also share the file with specific people, you’ll see the names of the people you shared the file with. Everyone else will appear as anonymous when they view your file.

I think I would take offense if I'm an orangutan. Lol. Funny with all the low episodes Smokey has had I've never seen it before. No nails that's why I eat chocolate.
