I've been off the board for about a week - popping in here and there. When I received Six's spec-fPL results last week it definitely had my head hanging a little bit lower. I'm not all doom and gloom, just tired of trying to stay ahead of the learning curve. Silly me! It's also the end of the school year - a busy time of year and my motivation to grade papers has drastically declined.
Six has been very much Six. He's been doing well even with this high value. Not sure what that means. Numbers decent. Still working on this food issue - not him, but with the others. I keep looking at the WCR...but worry with all these issues if I don't stay on top of things it could cause harm. Hoping that feeling will pass with time and I can mostly focus on the WCR.
Since I've last posted...
Acupuncture vet - the chinese meds would not be causing a higher spec-fPL. he could have acupuncture every three weeks (this last visit he responded very well). she suggested as WFC did that since it wasn't a fasted test, that could have thrown the number off.
Regular vet - will be visiting on Thursday for liver values (blood work) and I'm going to have him fast for another spec-fPL (11 hour fast) to rule out food as a cause for the higher value. My vet called yesterday to say IDEXX ran a "free" heartworm test on Six's blood sample (and other samples the vet sent). Surprise - Six tested negative for the antigen (so no active infection), but he tested positive for antibodies - so he's been exposed - maybe even fought off an infection before I knew him. I don't think it's something I am going to worry about - he did have a heart ultrasound in November and has been on heartguard and now Revolution for over a year. He's also been exposed to toxoplasmosis.
I've been reading up on pancreatitis and triaditis. There's just no way he's a triaditis case. No way. Chronic pancreatitis - maybe. I've still decided not to treat for pancreatitis because there are no symptoms. I've second guessed myself a million times, but he's so active (outside right now on the deck) and eating just fine...hard to believe he's suffering. I joined a feline pancreatitis board - still reading stuff there too. It's not as active as LL so it's slow going too.
That's all for now. Hi to all our LL friends. Will try to provide a weekly update until we can get back into the swing of things. :YMHUG:
