Good Morning, Everyone,

Rusty had a good night, but his breathing was not great this morning. I attribute this to the lingering cold and damp weather and I wish this awful weather would clear out of here, but apparently that won't happen until Tuesday now. We, however, are leaving for NYC tomorrow, and hopefully the weather there will be better. This morning Rusty tried a new food: Wild Callings Cabin Fever (chicken). He liked it. According to the work Ann (Tess) has done, it has about 4.5% carbs. If he continues to like it, I'll try to find more (found it in the Potsdam Agway, which is an hour and a half drive from here). I also bought a can of the rabbit and we will try that next. When we're in the city I'll surely be able to find stores that stock Wild Callings.

I heard back (immediately) from Canidae support. They were very concerned about my finding lots of peas in some of the cans of their Pure Elements grain-free cat food. (I had looked up the list of ingredients for the Pure Elements canned dog food and saw that it does contain peas. I wrote to ask if dog food might inadvertently have been put into cat-food cans, since, in addition to the peas, the color and consistency of the food was different from the cans that did not contain peas.) They are going to check it out at their cannery. In the meantime they are sending me vouchers for the cans I bought. I also asked them for the "typical nutrient analysis" of Grain Free Pure Elements canned cat food. They recently changed the formula (it used to be called Felidae and had fish and other stuff in it). They do not have the typical nutrient analysis for the new formula yet but will contact me when it is ready. I did not expect such a prompt response and was pleased that they are taking my concern about the peas to heart.

I hope to get to some condos today. The board seems to be OK now. Lots to do to get ready for our trip.

Wishing you all a fine day,

Ella & Rusty

Sending lots of breathing vines Rusty's way this morning!

Good catch on the peas. The quality control issues in so many pet foods make me cringe. I'm glad to know that they were prompt in their response, though. That's always a good sign.

Rusty, a trip to the lagoon is always appreciated. No need to go in the deep end, though - the bean has lots to do today.

Have a great day, Ella!

Re: 5/4 Rusty AMPS 169

Sorry to hear the weather is bothering Rusty. I hope his breathing gets better soon and the weather in NYC is better. That is good the company got back to you so quickly on the peas in the cat food. It's good to know some companies do care.

Re: 5/4 Rusty AMPS 169

Oh I will have to pay attention to when you hear back from canidae....

the wild callings website had free shipping when I ordered a few cans to try. Of course, mine didn't like it.

Sending better breathing vines.....

Re: 5/4 Rusty AMPS 169

I hope your weather clears up and Rusty can breath easier. Ooooooo, the kitties are going to be so excited, spring in NYC. Tess is insisting on a Swan Boat ride!

Tess loves the Wild Calling chicken, the others are too high in phosphorus for her, but Emma likes them. Luckily, the only place i've found it is right here in our little town. The store locator on their website doesn't list our store, so you might find it other places than those that they list.

I tried to go back to catch up on what you were concerned about w/ the Canidae, but the board hasn't been cooperating! I was looking at the Canidae site, they have a lot of new varieties and I was wondering if anyone had new info on them. Looking forward to it when you hear from them. I hope they send the info on all the foods. It is actually made here and I'd like to support a local company. The furkids wouldn't eat the old formula though. My contact at the local farm store is the president's neighbor, maybe he can give a nudge to get the info faster!

Paws crossed Rusty is breathing easier very soon. Nice blue numbers despite it all!

Bon voyage to the big city! Any special activities planned for the kitties?

Re: 5/4 Rusty AMPS 169

Has he every been checked for heart issues? Sometimes, those can cause fluid to back up into the lungs and congest them. I believe it is something found a bit more frequently in Main Coon cats.

Re: 5/4 Rusty AMPS 169, +6 82

Hi again,
Rusty gets checked out for everything each year and as far as I know he does not have heart issues. But I'll bring it up when he has his yearly exam next month. He has had pictures of his lungs done (in 2013) and also a bronchoalveolvar lavage. He doesn't have asthma, but he does have chronic congestion and his breathing issues have been with him as long as he has lived with us. Anyway, his breathing is much better this afternoon.

I've spent the morning doing paperwork and now have to start getting stuff ready for our trip. It's been raining all day, so I doubt that we'll get outside for a walk. More rowing in the cellar!

bbl,

Ella & Rusty

Morning Ella, oops: Afternoon! But you still get the ~O) ~O) ~O) Elsa insisted! ;-)

It is nice to see that +6, back to the lagoon for Rusty. I am glad too that his breathing has improved today.

How wonderful that you have found another food that Rusty likes. YES! I will hope he continues to like it. very nice too that the company called back on the other food. Hooray!

Bummer on the weather. We have the same here today too - very wet outside. I went for a walk/hike anyways. It is nice that you have exercise equipment at home that you can use when the weather says stay in.

Good luck with your prep for your trip to NYC. Elsa has started to pack her bags, she does not want to miss another NYC trip. ;-)

Have a great day today!

OK. If it hasn't ever been explicitly ruled out, getting it checked may be helpful. Specifically, ask about cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. I know a couple of folks here have had diabetic cats with those conditions too.

Re: 5/4 Rusty AMPS 169, +6 82

Nice splashdown in the lagoon! This dose is looking great so far. Sorry to hear Rusty's breathing isn't so great. I had a civie with cardiomyopathy and he'd occasionally sound like he was wheezing. Should have been my first clue, but back then I didn't know what I know now, I just thought it was hairballs.

I hope your weather turns around permanently. We are also forecast for nicer weather on Tuesday.

Rowing - I'm always on for rowing in Central park. Oooh, and mega hotdogs and maybe one of those steak places? ~Neko

Hi Ella,
Sending easy breathing vines to Rusty.
Nice slide!! I hope he's surfing!

Lucy is a little congested and sniffly today too! :-x
I think she gets like more this when the weather is changing.
