Struggle free tests today, didn't get day #'s, was gone all day, DH made sure he got snacks. Still high at 8pm PMPS= 592 but at least lower than HI.. Started a fresh bottle of test strips and will try to get more #'s tonight since he is being cool about it. Urine glucose was higher than preferred, that is a result of last night's HI reading. We'll see if we can get to the bottom of this tonight. Will update spreadsheet as we go. Starting at +2. Things seem like they go a little smoother overnight. We are using the same rear larger paw pad hoping that it will get to bleed better, faster. He doesn't seemed bothered by that. We usually rotate. My daughter has been helping he seems calmer when she holds him.

Dumb question of the day... could there be any difference in effects with these tiny U100 3/10 3G needles? I am certain we are getting it in, but, it does not seem to go as deep under the skin as the U40's did, would that make any difference? These needles are much gentler though. We have got to get this together, my vet is waiting to see Simba's spreadsheet. nailbite_smile

There has been some discussion about needle length and where it deposits the insulin. Perhaps it was on the old board in the Think tank section, I truly don't remember. Maybe one of the other elephants around here can remember that.

My 2 cents is that I gave A LOT of through and through shots with the 1/2" needles. I don't ever do that with the 5/16ths length ones. I try to shoot almost parallel with the skin, so that it goes under the skin. It really just has to go under the skin, not into the flesh. Does that make sense? I believe some people shoot perpendicular to the skin, but I think that's too deep. Isn't that the way humans shoot insulin themselves?

What part of the body do you give the shots? I prefer the front flanks and side of belly. But some say the scruff is fine too. I am glad I stopped giving it to him in scruff quite a long time ago though because now that's where he gets fluids.

I also use the 5/16th needles, but I shoot at about a 45 degree angle into a tented roll of skin just south of the scruff, and not directly over the spine, varying the side and placement a bit. I actually grab the fur to tent the skin instead of pinching the skin itself.

I always give it in the scruff usually the right side, just under the skin. It's really the only place I can get a good view. I usually give the shot as he finishes his meal. He is still staying up in the 400's, wanna try 2U a little longer but it looks like he's going to need at least 3 to get the curve lower. I think we are done for tonight. He's had enough. We'll see how the UG goes in the a.m.. Thanks ladies..

Lookie! What a nice preshot you got this AM, 5/5. Hopefully you can get a mid cycle test today to se if there's more movement on this 2U now, as it looks like it's working. It's highly possible his system is finally recognizing, "Hey, I got's me some insulin!"

How did he eat overnight though?
