WCR: Most Ps in place. Shasta seems to be doing well today, but I think she's bouncing from yesterdays' predominantly blue day. Appy is ok. She's peed and pooped today and best of all...lots of snuggles. In fact, she just spent some time on my lap getting lots of scritches and now she's resting on the blanket next to me. love her.

OT: Friday, I met the grandmother of one of my students (guidance counselor's mother) and her new kitty. The grandmother adopted the kitty back in February when the SPCA had cats up for adoption at the local mall. She's beautiful. About 1.5 years old, silver tabby, sweet disposition, spayed, but grandmother was worried about the massive amount of water she was drinking and how much she was peeing and for such a young cat, she wasn't excessively rambunctious. So, I took my glucometer, strips, lancets and PureBites and went in for the big poke...1st poke...HI. :stop:o_O Test #2...598.

And wouldn't you know that back in February, she had renamed her kitty, Sugar! On the papers from the SPCA, they list "reason for surrender" as cannot afford. Did the previous owners not disclose her diabetes? Or did the SPCA hide it from potential adopters. Either way, this makes me sooooo angry. I want sugar kitties to be adopted, but I want them to be adopted by people who are willing to care for them and this crazy disease.

Anyways, we discussed what to do next because she's super worried about the cost as she is retired. First things first, get rid of the dry fuds and go grab some low carb FF Classics. I'm headed over today to check her BG again. Saying lots of prayers that the fuds change really brings her numbers down. When I talked to her last night, she said that she was loving the wet food and wanted more. I told her to give her as much food as she'd eat. She also said that she was a bit more spunky. I know it's wishful thinking, but I want her to be able to enjoy her kitty without all the poking and prodding.

On a slightly different note, my sister texted me and told me that she almost adopted a kitty today at Petsmart because they had a big adoption day going on. I told her that she wasn't allowed to start falling for kittens until I was able to poke all of their ears. :p:p

Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

Yay for lots of snuggles.
I'm glad Shasta is doing well today. :)
Sending extra appy vines to her because we want her appy better than OK!

It's wonderful you are there to help your student's grandmother's diabetic kitty.
I don't think SPCA would knowingly hide such condition because they don't want to see their adopted animals returned....
I really hope that the diet change will do the trick.
Sending prayers.

Thank you, Carla & Mariko! I think Shasta knows I was with another kitty. When I got home from testing Sugar, I quickly changed my clothes and washed my hands, but she left the living room and went into her room for naps.

Update on Sugar: On Friday @ 4:30pm, she tested HI (1st poke) and 598 (2nd poke). Today @ 2:30pm, she tested 387!!!!:smuggrin: I know that's she's not out of the woods, but after only 1.5 days on wet fuds and she dropped 200+ points. YIPPEE! Only 300 points to go!!!!!

Ah, good to see this.

Sorry about the "Sugar" kitty. How nice that you're helping. Vines.

that's funny about you testing all the ears first.
I hope the food makes a difference for "sugar" ....
explain to the woman that it can be done cheaper....
it's great that she'll have your guidance.

Scritches to cuddly Shasta...

Deborah, you are a very good person to help Sugar's mama out like that. I hope and pray that changing the food does the trick. She does understand that there should be NO dry food at all, including treats, doesn't she?

Shasta, eat yer fuds like a good girl. You look very pretty in green. :D

Oh yes! She knows! She already went out and bought some PureBites freeze dried chicken. Also, I told her to be careful about dropping human food crumbs and leaving food out on the counter. She said that Sugar is starting to jump up on places that she hadn't before, like her tall dresser and the countertops! I see that as a small victory that she is feeling strong enough to jump up on "the tall stuff"! :woot::woot:
