We are only on day five of his diabetes care, and we started transitioning him right away. We also have another cat that is very likely at the end of life stage. We are waiting to get test results from her vet. Keeping her eating has required a lot of attention and a lot of separation because of such different dietary needs.
Philly has never done more than lick at wet food and walk away even though we open many cans twice a day for the gang here. He just doesn't like it. The first thing we did last week was read about lower carb dry options, and bought Tiki Cat Carnivore, which topped the list. The vet sent home the ubiquitous bag of R/C glycobalance. We replaced Philly's previous food with a mix of these. At every shot time, we open a couple cans to try to get him to eat wet. If he refuses, we sprinkle dry on the wet, he normally hides under the bed at this point. If he hasn't eaten by 15 minutes after shot time, we let him eat his special dry.
By this time, my roommate and I have to work. I work from home, so I can try wet at other times through the day. Repeat at 8 pm.
So while not ideal, we are trying. The high carb dry has been gone, and we have over 100 cans of wet to try.
