Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

We have had that happen before. You probably hit a capillary. I would just watch Jupiter to make sure but it scared us more than Tarragon. ((((Jamie))))

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

Chances are that you nicked a capillary. As long as the bleeding stopped, it should be fine. I would get a +1 test though. If the insulin got into the bloodstream, it could cause a faster than usual drop in numbers.

If you're concerned or if the bleeding hasn't stopped (unlikely), call your vet.

(I think you can take down the 911.)

what should i be watching for? I am so scared!! this has never happened before

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

Jaime - I ave had this happen before too. no doubt you nicked a capillary. a little pressure to the area will help it stop. Jupiter should be fine. Just keep an eye out, but I suspect all will be well. HUGS!

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

Thanks everyone... I just panicked cause this has never happened and I was really scared I did something really wrong and really messed up or something... I cant find the spot where I shot... I wiped the blood a few times and then came here to post... tried to find the bleeding spot and cant seem to find it...

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

Hi Jaime - sounds like the bleeding has stopped, so no worries there. Worst case scenario: you may see a fast drop in numbers IF the insulin went into the blood stream. Just do a +1 and/or a +2 to watch for that. Otherwise you should be fine. I so know on the panic... we all do.

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

I hope things are ok with Jupiter. I did some reading and as previously stated, it does look like you just hit a blood vessel so don't be surprised if you notice bruising on his skin near the injection site. Have you ever tried rotating injection sites? I know there are other places you can shoot but it may also affect the time it takes for the insulin to onset. At least that's what I remember reading.

Also, I wonder if because you hit a blood vessel the insulin might act faster today than usual because it may go directly into the blood stream? Does anyone else have an opinion about this?

Hugs Jamie... I know when something happens out of the norm, it can be a little scary. Hang in there girl.

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

I usually inject somewhere on the scruff... I think I did it a little more to one side then normal... Like I try not to shoot exact same spot and move around on the scruff.... but maybe this time I was too far to one side?

I will test at +1 and +2

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

Looks like everyone answered my questions before I got the post up. Thanks ladies!

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

You're fine with shooting in the scruff, chest, etc. I've always shot in the scruff and it's been 4 years. As long as Jupiter is ok (and he obviously is), you can start breathing!

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 blood at injection site!?!?

is it possible i just shot too far to one side? that it wasnt in the scruff anymore?

+1-250

Re: 5/31 Jupiter AMPS/252 +2/250 questions

Jamie

Breathe.....it's all ok. This has happened to me with Gracie, too. I just hold a tissue on it until it stops bleeding...which is usually fast and watch the numbers. I think the likelihood of you shooting into any blood vessel is slim...the skin has a lot of capillaries and as you insert the needle through the skin, it can just nick one. He may develop a small scab there just as if you got a little scratch.

His +2 is the same as his PS so you might see a normal, active lantus cycle. He's still high but you can get a +4 and see if he might come down some today.

Everything is fine :-D :-D

PMPS was 255. Ive been having a really hard time getting Jupiter to eat at PM shot time.. I am thinking maybe its cause its so hot in the house... Idk though... He wont eat it unless its seafood or unless I put a seafood appetizer on top... really wish he would stop being picky though

Didn't see a Jupe condo today....everything ok? I'm worried...no numbers for today on the SS.

i hope you are ok, Jamie.
