Hello everyone,

Here's Juba's condo from the other day:

As you can see, for some reason (I have no idea why) she jolted up about 100 points overnight.
I have gradually changed her diet to just Fancy Feast turkey and giblets, which she was doing fine with.

So the over 200 number this morning was quite a surprise, and very disappointing to say the least.

What should I do??
Give her a little insulin?

Maybe wait a couple hours after she's done eating her breakfast and see how her BG is??
Could I just monitor her today, if she stays high, and then if she's high this evening start insulin? That way we can have a schedule for when my husband goes to work he can giver her insulin at the appropriate time.

This is beyond frustrating, as I'm going on a small vacation this coming week, and was hoping to leave my husband with worry free cats.

I'd do what Amy does and test three hours after she ate to see if she come down. Any chance she ate something she shouldn't have? If not BG fluctuates so she likely will come down with the next test. :bighug:

When Scooter or Jacks numbers go up when they are off insulin it is usually because of something they found to eat that was out of bounds. For instance Scooter once got a few bites of bread and his numbers stayed high for 24 hours. Also he would lick the plates in the sink I had yet to wash and his numbers would go up. I had no idea all this was going on. The worst of course was kibble one piece and he would go into the 400's. So instead of panicking I would give him his normal food and check every 6 hours to make sure his numbers were coming back down.

I am hoping this is what happened for you.

I just tested her at +3 and she was 164. So she is going down, but usually she's in the 70's-90's by now.
I have no idea what she does during the night since she's not a huge cuddler (unlike our ginger boy.)
Juba usually comes up to say good night, hangs around for a few minutes, then goes back downstairs.
The only thing that was changed last night was I fed her just a little bit more for her last feeding to see if that would keep her full until her morning feeding.
During the night she doesn't eat for 8 hours.
I have tried the ice cube trick (to get her to eat during the night) and our other kitty just pigs both down.
If she's in the 200's tonight, then I will be giving her insulin (how I dread saying that word.)
I am also considering maybe going to the pet store today and picking up some novel protein canned feed without any grains and experiment.
What does everyone think of that?

Wow! Now Juba is 100/+4!!!
It looks like her pancreas is working!
Although I do feel bad it's working so hard...
I think I will consider the feeding in the middle of the night idea again. Even if I need to separate the two kitties at night, Juba would probably benefit having a "midnight snack." Lol

Trix really benefits from a "+9" snack....she's an odd OTJ case and food actually brings her numbers down. Since Jubalee is coming down on her own, I would definitely monitor for a while long to see what she's up to.
