Re: 5/30 MAx AMPS 264

Good morning,

Based on the discussion yesterday, I wonder what you decided to do at PMPS - did you use the old or new Lantus and/or change the syringe? I hope Max didn't get a fur shot this morning as it would be nice to see what he continues to do with the dosecrease.

Have a great day, guys and Max, please work hard on getting those numbers down into the blue range.

Anne

Re: 5/30 MAx AMPS 264

Hi Anne,
Sorry. I should have posted about all that. The pens didn't arrive until after Max's insulin time so I used the vial that I started on May 21st. Julie felt that since Max did go down to 99 after starting it that it likely is fine. I stuck with the same syringes. I have enough of them for three more days. I just remembered that I have more of these monojects without 1/2 unit markings so I likely will use some of then as well if necessary in an attempt to not muddy the waters. I sure hope he got it all today. I didn't feel anything wet but with such a small amount I could easily have missed any wet spot. Since we started he's only gotten one fur shot so hopefully this wasn't number two. I guess Max just likes to keep me on my toes. Thanks for checking in with us.

Since the topic of convenia has come up lately, with Max and others, here is one vet's take on it and ecoli infections too.

Convenia does seem to be safe for most cats. It is more effective for most bacterial infections that cefpodoxime.
E Coli is the most common bacteria to be in the bladder wall or the kidney and being a complicated urinary tract infection. E. Coli can great a biofilm that protect itself from exposure to antibiotics. Azithromycin or clarithromycin can disrupt that biofilm and make antibiotics more effective. E. Coli also has attachment structures or pili that make it hard to eliminate. Cranberry or D-Mannose can interfere with this adherence structure and help with clearance. The recommended dose is 20 mg/kg of a cranberry extract as a cat could not drink an effective dose of cranberry juice. Glucosamine can help restore the normal mucus lining of the bladder and prevent attachment of the pili and recurrence of infection.
It takes a multi prong approach and determination to get rid of these stubborn E. Coli infections.

That being said I just read of another cat that died from convenia!! I won't let my cat get it again.

I guess I was right about the fur shot this morning, darn it!!
