angry(2)_cat WHY?!?!?! angry(2)_cat

I know you all think...its just a number, but...for those who prefer to just soak it in as HI...think about it...its OVER 600...OVER 600. It could be 605, it could be 700, or 800. Its NOT just a number! Its QOL! It changes the cat from one who wants to sit in the hallway, walk around, go outside, eat, purr, wag their tail, ask for attention...to one who doesnt want to move from their spot, who refuses to eat, and drinks until they feel sick because they are so uncomfortably thirsty. So noooo...its not just a number to me. And it certainly is not to Latte, or any other cat who sits in this spot.

And yes, I am very very VERY frustrated! No matter what I do, I cant help her. This is so unfair to HER. She is so sweet and brave. She just deserves so much better, you know?

She is refusing to eat. Did not eat over night...instead she vomited every bit of food she worked so hard to get in, around 1:30am. She is sitting on her throne in a semi comatose state. We are going to have to do another round of cerenia (for nausea) DESPITE the 10mg of pred in her system...and all the other anti nausea meds. Im not giving her an appy stim until I can see she has a little interest in food or she will end up either 1. eating despite being nauseated and vomit more, or 2. it just wont be effective. So, we will likely end up syringe feeding.

Me-not a physically aggressive person, but I sure would like to throw some books accross the room. I have lots of them here. But I wont. It would scare her too much.

 Oh Carolyn.... :YMHUG: you are doing a good job and I don't know of anything
that you could do to make it better for her....wish I knew of something to suggest but I don't.
(((((Carolyn & Latte))))) Does she have any interest in going outside? Fresh air might help her...
When is your vacation starting again? Give her kisses from us....

Re: 5/30 Latte AMPS- HI

Carolyn,

I'm sorry to hear the wild swings are back. I don't know much about insulin, but is it possible she needs to add a short acting/rapid acting insulin to counteract the swings? She seems to stay consistent for part of the day and then goes out of whack. Maybe having something to give her when she gets so high would help since her mood and appetite is directly related to the swings. I was just reading about Humalog(considered very rapid acting) and it takes effect in about 30 minutes and wears off in 1 to 2 hours(in people). It says it is meant for use with insulin like Lantus.

In any case, I think about you and Latte often and hope she can even out since this seems to be the root of her issues.

Re: 5/30 Latte AMPS- HI

Carolyn - I am so sorry that Latte is having such a rough start today. I don't know what else you could do for her, as you really are one incredible bean, and do take such good care of her. I also so understand the frustration with the HI reading. Mannie too has had them, and I know what that reading does to me.

I do think of you often - look for your posts, hope for good things, knowing that there are days when they are not. I hope things improve for her today. Not too much more we can do except take care of our sugar babies the best way we can. Hugs to you both.

Hi Carolyn & Latte, Carolyn, I feel your frustration. But you are doing what you can. I hope things will improve later today. You are right: Latte is so brave and loving and she deserves better than this. We are thinking positive thoughts for you both. Many hugs.

Re: 5/30 Latte AMPS- HI

Can you drop a PM or FB note to Jojo? I know you saw the note about Lantus vs. Lev and Lantus being pH dependent. I'm wondering if Latte may do better with Lev given the MA. It also seems to have a longer duration for some cats than Lantus.

Re: 5/30 Latte AMPS- HI

Im sorry you are dealing with this. I know exactly what you mean, it ISN'T just a number, not when we can see such a drastic change in our kitties behavior ... when all we want to do is make them better, and we just can't. It doesn't seem fair that they have to deal with this, and we can't explain to them we are trying to make them better, it isn't fair that our love for them doesn't cure this disease. It isn't fair and there isn't anyone on this board who thinks it is, I'm sure of that. So go ahead and rant and rave on here, I'm sure we have all done it at one time or another.

((((Carolyn))))

This must be so horribly frustrating for you; watching this all happening to Latte. We all feel your pain and suffering. No, you're right. A number isn't a number when it holds negative consequences and if I or anyone else said that in a way that came off as too cavalier, it was only to help you get through a day.

I have to agree with Sienne on the Levemir issue. I noticed that you said you 'received' it in a condo from the other day. For some cats, it DOES make a difference in lowering bgs. Like in my Alex. I'm still trying to find the right dose to stop the bounce but generally speaking his numbers are dramatically down since the switch two weeks ago. I felt like he was 'resisting' Lantus. He's on several meds a day also with several conditions that all need to work together. Not as many as Latte and admittedly prednisone is not in the mix, but I also think maybe a note to JoJo on this subject wouldn't be a bad idea.
By the way, Alex's disposition has also changed dramatically since the switch.

I don't know that this will happen for Latte (ECID, right)? but it *could* be worth checking into? Please, feel free and more than welcome to sound off on us..I will go and smash glasses in an empty parking lot for if you think it will help angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat

Things will get better again...hang on, Carolyn :YMHUG:

She took in maybe 1/4 jar of baby food and is pretty much resisting any more.
Im not syringe feeding and I dont know why. I think deep down I really feel like she needs to do some of this work on her own. if she cant, she cant - ya know? Its okay...I mean its not OK, but...well, she can only do what she can do. And when she cant do the things she needs to do to take care of her basic needs, than the game may be coming to an end.

I dont know.

Her week of giving her a chance to eat better is coming to a close. I have only seen improvement (and not a lot) for a few days...of course when her numbers were lower and flatter. I do have lev. I have corresponded with jojo and jill. I do plan to start on Tuesday. But I dont think we have much time before enough is enough. One or two good days in every week or two, with the rest being crappy (not just number wise) is beginning to seem unfair.

I have to go to work now. I will try to get my lunch break around her +8 and stop at home to check on her. Back for the day by pmps.

Hugs, my friend, and lots of purrs and skritches for Ms. Latte. I can't offer any advice, but I do know that you're doing your very best, and you're not a bad mom...you're actually rather great.

Best-
Michele
