There really isn't too much different news to report on Trix today. She really seems to be feeling better overall...brighter-eyed, more energetic, good posture, snuggly, etc. She is not 100% by far, but she is also better by far, too.

But her appy still sucks. She's doing OK if I encourage her, but doesn't eat anything I just leave out for her. So I did give her a 1/4 of a cypro this morning - just a few minutes ago. When I tried to give it to her earlier this morning at our initial breffis time, she was "done" with meds....she'd already downed her BP meds and her famotidine tablet...she was NOT popping any more pills at that moment. My vet had prescribed 1/2 a tablet so hopefully 1/4 is enough. I know many of you guys just use a little bit, but since this is "unusual circumstances", I think more is probably necessary. Hopefully it will jumpstart her appy. If 1/4 seems to have no effect, I'll probably give 1/2 a tablet a try.

She really doesn't SEEM nauseous at this point, and we are still giving her the ondasetron. I plan on keeping that up for a while, just to be sure.

I have to get ready for work. DH has monitoring duties today. I'll try to update as I can...have a great day, LL!

Amy

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Good morning Amy ~O)
It's so wonderful to see Trix rocking the no juse numbers, but sending tons of appy vines her way. It is such a relief to see her on the constant upswing from feeling so rough. Hope you and DH are taking care of yourselves. Hugs and scritches to all in your sweet home :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Morning Amy, I just had to get in my "Trixie fix" before I head out for a walk. What a nice AMBG to start the cycle today. That's good to hear she doesn't seem nauseous. So sorry to hear her appy isn't better. Sending Trixie some appy vines and more healing, too. Have a nice day and hugs and scritches from us.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Hi Amy. Cyproheptadine is a strange drug. Max was actually prescribed 1/2 a pill but gets just a sliver, 1/8 of a 4mg pill. It is the one drug that I find less is more. Since it can be given up to twice a day if needed, those of us on the pancreatitis board give tiny amounts to start with and increase if necessary. Why I say strange is because Max needs 2mg of ondansetron BID which is on the higher end for that drug. Then again I know vets say you can give up to 4mg of ondansetron. I have never done that but would try it every 8 hours if needed. How much are you giving? Oh, when I did try 1/4 of a cypro, Max became very vocal but it didn't do any more for his appetite. I hope the cypro works well.

Another beautiful start for Trixie this morning. I'm sending lots of appy vines her way....and lots of take-care vines to you. You're doing a great job with Trixie. I know you must be exhausted. :YMHUG:

Have a great day!

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

I'm at work, so real quick:

The cypro has her more interested in eating, but she's really not eating any more. I knew a bit of the "less is more" which is why I did only do the 1/4 tablet instead of the half. I was hoping by giving a little more than a sliver would jump start her a bit more. I guess in a way it did; in a way it didn't. She's eating....she just needs to eat more, and eat without coaching. I know this can take time....I know this can take time...I know this can take time....

At the moment she's getting 2mg odansestron BID....roughly. We do an injection in the morning, and I've been doing pills at night. The other night, I was only successful in getting 1mg in her. There was a couple nights earlier in the week that we did skip it...she did seem OK those nights, but I guess I decided I wanted to be sure she stays that way which is why we've been doing the BID dosing these past few days.

Her demeanor really is so much better...it's just her appy that is way off. Bean trying to not be, but is very stressed.....

Back to work.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

I'm glad that Trixie is continuing to improve. Slow and steady, and what a great AMBG!!!

My vet also Rx'd 1/2 tablet, but we find that 1/8th or less is actually more effective for Tess. You need to wait half an hour to an hour for it to kick in. We just fold it into a soft treat for her BG test.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Just wanted to send a quick bunch of appy vines to Miss Trixie. I'm glad she continues to improve. I've always found that the appetite is the last thing to get better after kitties have been ill. Sending more hugs to you, too, Amy! Have a great day.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

I'm glad Trixie is still showing signs of improvement. I hope the cypro helps her appy. Still sending prayers and hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

How is your dad doing?

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Came home to check on things 'cause DH wasn't having much luck getting her to eat more than a few licks. I was getting more and more stressed with each e-mail from him, so I had to be here.

Anyway, I opened a new variety when I got home and she did a little better eating. She definitely WANTED to eat....she followed me to the laundry room and squawked when I presented the plate. She ate an OK amount...again, not a great amount, but an OK amount.

She definitely acts like she feels great - very social and lovey dovey, and she was being like that before the cypro, too. And at least at breakfast, she acted like she wanted to eat then, too...and she did eat a little then as well.

I am sure she is also reading my stress, which I really am trying to control.....

My Dad is slowly improving as well....thank you for asking, Carla! That infection he had after the biopsy really walloped him, but he's starting to become more active again and he is also eating better now, too.

I have to go back to work now. It is SO hard being away from home right now....even though I'm sure Trix appreciates the break from seeing me!

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

My vet says Cerenia has some pain and inflamation reducing properties. It looks like you are not giving her the bupe any more from the Remarks on your ss. Have you tried Cerenia in place of or with Ondansetron? It sounds like she's hungry, but maybe the food is making her tummy hurt so she only eats a little. That's just a guess.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Amy, I so understand how it feels to see your baby not eating, what you think she should. I complained about that almost every day with Checks. Even when he was well, he didn't eat what mama wanted him to.
I am so glad to see Miss Trixie improving a little every day.
One of these days, she will surprise you and just gobble up the serving you give her, and she will preside over the CPC :-D

Her morning start is beautiful! :-D

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

That is a good point, Dyana....my vet has said the same thing about cerenia. Hmmm....of course she's on vacation till Wednesday, but I could talk to someone else at the office. I have a teeny bit of cerenia at home....I don't know how to dose it along with the odansetron. And my vet's office is inexperienced with ondensatron....they got it for me at my request. I so wish she was in....she is so thorough and spends so much time with us....

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

The other day, when I took J.D. to the vet (we saw a different vet, than normal) he said there were two different sizes (or maybe it was strengths, I don't know). He said it is only given once per day and if J.D. is having any pain in his tummy, it should help with that. He gets 1/4 tablet, and they are little and oblong shaped and hard to divide into quarters.
Our regular vet thinks cerenia is the best, and has told me how it is good for pain and inflamation, as well. When J.D. was diagnosed with pancreatitis, I had to ask for a script for Ondansetron, and I don't know if they have any other patients using it.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

My vet also prefers cerenia. The injections were $50 a pop, though....the odansetron is $10.99 for the whole vial. Maybe I can get a little cerenia into her tonight since I can get pills into her at this point.

My brain is so scattered.....worried about Trix, lots going on at work....

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

I know how you feel. I could barely sleep the other night when J.D. was off. You must be exhausted. I hope she eats well tonight and you get some much needed rest for yourself. I know you need it. Hugs.

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102

Just spoke with vetty on-duty...we're switching back to cerenia tonight to see if that helps with the appy issue.

Sorry for being so scattered.....between the stress and posting super fast from work I'm not able to explain as much as usual....

Speaking of which, back to work.....

Re: 5/3 Trixie AMBG 102 PMBG 108

We had an OK start to dinner...she wanted to eat, she trotted in and out with me as I prepped meals, she ate an OK amount on her own so far. 4mg cerenia is now on board....

I don't know if it's because of the cerenia, the cypro from this morning, the new flavor of fuds, or combination of all that...but we have actually had a couple CPCs tonight. I haven't been able to say "CPC" since all this started. Granted we are going with small servings, but CPC is CPC, right? Please stay on this path, Trix!!
