I am so frustrated! I thought we were close earlier in the week when he had an am of 156, he bounced, then we hit 166, he bounced, but now what? He was inside all day the last two days. I just don't understand why he is so all over the board with his numbers. I can't do a curve untill this weekend.

Any thoughts or advice out there?

Don't stress over it; you can't do better than your best and most people can't do a curve till the weekends. It's OK.

Here are some suggestions after looking at Thomas' ss:

Try to get a before bed test because many cats go low overnite. What I did was to test my two just before going to sleep - it was the last thing I did. There were some times that I caught a low number and needed to give a bit of HC or even just some MC to slow down the drop.

See if you can get a test at +10 or +11. The reason for these tests is to see which way he's going at ps time. Sure you may get a 156 or 166 at amps, but what was he an hour or so before then? Was he higher and still dropping at amps?

My Oliver had a very late nadir, so I got into the habit of testing him as soon as I got up in the morn... it could have been +10 or so, but the whole point was that I needed to know if his numbers were still dropping and you really don't want to shoot a dropping number. My informal rule was that I needed to see 2 rising numbers from him before I gave him his shots.

My Shadoe was different; and had a more typical nadir around +5 or so. I liked to test her at different times, especially at bedtime because there were a few times I tested and went WHOA too low, and I pulled out some MC to slow down her drop. If I let her drop, I would have to deal with highs in the morn.

Curves can wait till the weekend, so just get what you can to fill in the picture. If you think the 2.5u is too high a dose - when you shoot the 2.5u to a 156, chances are that he drops very low and then bounces by the time you get home for dinner.... you could consider dropping back to maybe even 2.25u and then let the bouncing clear off. By then, it will be the weekend and you can get a curve on the 2.25u and see if it looks more level....

I bet you may see some better numbers, or at least more level of a curve, with the 2.25u dose.

Okay, taking a deep breath, I will be patient and give it a try.

Thanks,

Sonya

I got your message after the am shot on Friday. My schedule makes it difficult to get some of these extra checks in, we give him his shot at 6 am and 6 pm. My shift varies, when I'm early shift I leave 1/2 hour after the shot, when I'm late shift I get back right at the evening shot.

Anyway, I didn't change from the 2.5 since I was so close to Saturday. I'm doing the curve today. He started out yellow, but quickly headed into the pinks. He seems to be going down just a little now. It looks more like I will need to increase?
