Hi everyone. 5/2 was a pretty bad day for Dave, and pretty much all of it's on me... :banghead: It's left me unsure what to do next.

His AMPS was 14.4, so he definitely needed insulin, but he decided this morning that he would refuse to eat. He'd thrown up the night before, and hadn't wanted all of his last meal. I was trying to coax him to eat and he wasn't having a bar of it, so instead of giving him the f1u he normally gets, I gave him s1u. I left to go to school... to find out that as soon as I left, he went and devoured his food. His appetite is back completely, and he ate his next two meals fine with encouragement, though I reduced the amount from 70g to 60g. If his appetite comes back fully he'll get 70g again.

Because of this, his glucose was too high all day today, so he really needed his full insulin shot. Of course it had to be the time I'd give him his first furshot... +6 after his 'shot' and one meal later he was holding steady at the same reading that he'd been PMPS (284), but by AMPS 5/3 he'll probably be pretty high.

My question is what dose should I give him. He was due for an increase, but I don't know if it's okay to suddenly give him more after two lesser doses. I haven't got a ketone test today, and considering he has a history of ketones I really don't want him staying high for long. He's also now getting diarrhoea and I haven't had a chance to give him pumpkin yet, so I'm also worried about that.

Any advice on where to go from here?
(Sorry for writing so much, I feel really guilty for getting so much wrong today, and needed to vent)

I'm not sure why you want to increase after those lovely greens on a fat 1 u on May 01. I'd go back to that dose when the next one is due.

Great, I'll give him f1u then. I'm just worrying, so it's nice to hear what other people think. Out of curiosity, if he refuses to eat in the future, what dose should I give him (assuming I can't delay)?

That's a tough one. Lantus is slow in onset so some people don't worry too much about getting a lot of food in before dosing. If you can be reasonably sure he'll eat a something within the first 2-3 hours you could probably give him his shot. Posting here for advice is always a good idea. Is not eating an ongoing problem with him?

He'll go from being starving for food, to only eating half of it, to refusing it , then back to starving again in a single day. This morning when he wouldn't eat, Mum apparently gave him a teaspoon of MC food, and after that he happily ate his LC breakfast, so I'm suspecting it's partially because he's getting sick of the flavour of his food. He's always had stomach problems and they're back again now, so that also might have something to do with it. I'm hoping he hasn't got a new allergy to one of his proteins, but even before when we didn't know that eating fish would make him sick, he still seemed to enjoy eating fish. Normally if I give him a pat whilst he's at the bowl he'll eat at least some food even if he's clearly not hungry, but I don't like doing this too much, in case I make him throw up.

Not eating was never a problem before his dX.

He might feel icky when his BG is too high, too low or dropping fast. Some people keep prescription antinausea and/or appetite stimulant meds on hand for these issues.

Probiotic and digestive enzymes are good for the kitties.
I give Fritz Renew Life Ultimate Flora 15 billion Probiotic and Dr. Good Pet Feline Digestive Enzymes
He also gets Slippery Elm Bark I buy mine online at Mountain Rose Herbs organic and not expensive. That was smart to add a tiny bit of MC to the food to eat him to eat. Rather the kitty eat than go without food.
