Ann & Maggie11 (GA)

Very Active Member
Hi,
Maggie seems to be in good spirits and feeling good, but I have a feeling she may be getting constipated. She's moving her bowels but not as much as normally, and she's urinating but in smaller clumps, whereas before it would be a large clump. Also in the very, very early hours, she uses the box and then runs back and forth from bedroom to living room. She does this running several times. I have some Lax'aire Lubricant for cats and dogs and wonder if it would be okay to give her a little. I used to give this to my older kitty for hairballs. I don't want anything to raise her BG. Thanks.

Re: 5/3 Ann & Maggie11 AMPS=109 -- Question

Many of us use Miralax--It is very gentle & doesnt upset the cats' system in any way..See how the rest of the day goes, but do try the miralax--I give it to both my cats..Great amps!!

It looks like there's not much in the product other than petroleum jelly, soybean and cod liver oil.

What you're describing could be a UTI. Frequent, small urination is a symptom. If Maggie has a UTI, it will mean a vet visit.

Miralax can be found at any drugstore. It's over the counter. You give up to 1/4 teaspoon mixed into food. (I'd also add some water if you don't already.)

Re: 5/3 Ann & Maggie11 AMPS=109 -- Question

Thanks Sienne; I had a suspicion it may be a UTI. Is this common in diabetic cats? When she used to urinate heavily, she had this odd habit of sitting in the litter until done urinating. When she finished, I would clean off the litter from her fur area, if I was home at the time!

Re: 5/3 Ann & Maggie11 AMPS=109 -- Question

Ann --

I have no idea whether UTIs are more common in diabetic cats. Certainly the presence of higher than normal BG would provide a favorable medium for bacteria to grow (i.e., the sugar feeds the bacteria) and at least some human diabetics are more infection prone. But, if cats in any way resemble people, I think it's possible that there are some who are more vulnerable to UTis than others.

Thanks Sienne, makes sense! I'll keep an eye on her today. Have a good day and you too, Gabby!

Re: 5/3 Ann & Maggie11 AMPS=109 -- Question

HI Ann and Maggie!!!
Sorry to hear about Maggie, hopefully she doesn't have a uti! We used the feeder last night and it was so funny to see the cat's reaction when the feeder went off. They looked at it like it was an alien! But, they started to figure out there was food inside. I have only used the timer part when I am here so they know what it is. I have been consisitently feeding them out of it though so they get used to it. How are you doing with yours?? Great amps this morning!!!
