Saturday's condo

This morning Radar got into the trash to lick the tape off one of those bags that you can open, seal and reopen. But when I got up to give him actual food he wouldn't touch it. So I got out the Ondansetron and gave his first dose of 2 mg. He did not appreciate being restrained and pilled. I moved on to BG testing and it was a whopping 438!!! He hasn't had a number this high since March.
It's been about an hour or so since he was pilled and now he's eating his breakfast. :woot:

I will keep testing to try to determine if this number is a bounce or is stress induced...

I saw your comment in yesterday's condo about him licking the tape. Could it be salty from whatever was in the bag? I've never heard of a cat licking the sticky part. McGee (my tuxedo) has a plastic bag fetish and will actually eat thin plastic. I have to be vigilant to never leave anything out. One time I had a case of cat food with shrink wrap around it, opened, sitting in the kitchen, and found him eating the shrink wrap. Your thought is a good one, @julie & punkin (ga) . This particular bag was not salty from the contents - although could have been from the fingers that touched it. He has always had an attraction to licking the sticky part of the tape... in fact all tape use at our house has a furry assistant. :joyful: He will come running from the other side of the house if he hears the tell tale sound of tape coming off a roll so he can lick it. ... and "help" us with whatever taping needs to be done. It sounds like McGee's plastic eating keeps you on your toes since everything is wrapped in plastic these days. Maybe he is just trying to "help" you??

On the topic of bags, Radar has always loved to bite chip bags but is usually not at all interested in the contents. Lately I have noticed that he is very interested in licking the salt on the potato chips and will stick his head in the bag to lick the chips... what is that about?? have you ever heard of a cat doing that??

I'm thinking that Radar may have dropped a bit lower last night and then decided to bounce this morning.

As for cats and what they eat, while they are supposed to be obligate carnivores, I had a cat that loved tomato sauce and my sister's cat loved cantaloupe. Go figure.

Cats seem to have their own rules...

Now I'm not sure that the unusual 438 was a bounce... because at +2 he was only 244... unless bounces clear that quickly?? It seems that he doesn't usually clear a bounce so quickly... although he is a cat....

Well. bounces can clear very quickly. One other thought is that whenever Gabby would throw me a number that seemed out of context, I would re-test. Meter or strip error is always a possibility even when you're getting an actual number showing up on the meter. It's certainly possible that your AMPS was an error.

hmmm I didn't even think that it could be an error and didn't retest... although I hadn't had any coffee yet so maybe that was the problem more than anything... next time I'll retest a weirdo number. thanks

Yay on the happy appy! My GA Cinnamon adored licking plastic of all kinds. And she liked licking garbanzo beans. I'm a vegetarian and I used to tell her that licking the beans was her way of experiencing how the non-carnivores of us eat. :)

I also wonder if he dropped lower on you last night. But, the high number this morning could also have been a bad test.

I’m really glad he’s eating. I do think that ondansetron is nothing short of a miracle drug.

And it's looking like a flat yellow day.... which suggests to me that the unusually high number this morning was a bounce from an unseen low last night... maybe even a green?? :D I will test tonight to try and catch it.

I have had several cats who did this, and one who would actually eat the chips, too, if she got the chance! As far as thin plastic bags go, the bags they use in grocery stores are coated with a very thin layer of animal fat to help keep them from sticking together; apparently cats must be able to smell it, it certainly attracts them! I have a civvie who will eat them, she will also eat the gel pads that grocery store butchers put under meat when they package it. I have to be super vigilant to make sure she can't get them - she will go garbage-diving for them!

Glad Radar is eating for you! :bighug:
