Hey all. Sorry we were AWOL again. There is just so much to do around here that I never seem to sit down for more than a minute.

Cinco is making me wonder if we have a failed reduction going on here. :( AMPS was his highest in almost a month. I guess I give it another day or two and we'll see. It's possible there's a little stress in play. Unable to reach his hot spot with the soft collar on, he started a new one!!

I had no choice but to put the very large hard collar on him this morning - the one he had to wear when he had that hot spot on his leg from the pain patch when he had his eye removed. He's banging around here now. He's forgotten how to negotiate things and I guess he gave up trying to get into his lb and peed beside it.:( This is not going to be a fun couple of weeks as we wait for the new one to heal. I wish I knew why this is happening. The only thing I can think of is boredom. I read somewhere that this is one of the most common reasons cats get hot spots. Well, he certainly doesn't have an exciting life, but I don't know what i can do to fix that. I give him as much attention as I can, but with everything else going on with the other cats, I know it's not enough. I'm really frustrated and depressed about this. I feel awful putting that thing on him, but what choice do I have???

Minka had a so-so day yesterday. It was acupuncture day and she surprised the vet and me by eating the treats Dr. K offered (she's been offering them every session and Minka always snubs them. Last time she ate two little one, and this time she ate several). Dr. K was delighted. Then, as we were chatting and she was getting the needles ready, Minka decided she wanted more and stuck her face in the container (which Dr. K had left on the table near her)! Silly cat. She had some turkey from my sandwich on the way home, but didn't eat much of her dinner, and only a little bit in the evening. This morning she didn't want anything to do with her breakfast. I gave her some Cerenia and Cypro this afternoon and she's had about a third of a jar of baby food and some chicken broth. The good news is that I weighed her and she's actually up a couple ounces from when I weighed her last week, so my following her around all day with a jar of baby food is paying off! I e-mailed the oncologist a progress report and asked about increasing her Pred dose (currently 1/2 tablet a day). She wrote back that she agreed it was time to try it. She said if she's not better next week she wants to see her again and probably refer her to IM for further evaluation.:nailbiting:

Sasha's appy continues to be just okay, but boy, when that baby food comes out, she goes ape! It's really funny to see her come hopping at top speed into a room when she realizes I am feeding Minka some, and she tries so hard to climb into my lap and get to it! Of course, she gets some.

Harvey is still being Mr. Picky about the cat food I'm serving, but he, too wants the baby food. I wish Costco sold it by the case!

Sorry for the novel. Just thought I would catch everyone up on why I'm not around so much lately. I need to run out and get some groceries and pick up that painting of Kisa from the framer. I hope you are all having a great Friday.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans, especially Carla & Callie and Georgia & Simon. :bighug: Special prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Marje's DM, Chris' DM and Elise's DM.

First off: :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

You are doing great! With all the different kitty needs you have going on, you are a great mommabean. I was going to suggest some playtime with Cinco, but then I remembered he is blind.... Could you maybe use a feather toy with a string and rub it on his body and make him do some searching that way?

Otherwise, it will all clear up and he will have the collar off before you all know it!

Sending speedy recovery vines and lots of hugs your way!

Thanks, Molly and Carla.

Cinco's really not much into playing, although he actually delivered a couple of bunny kicks to his nanner last night (he usually just rubs his face on it). All he really does is lay around all day. I give him back, neck and chin rubs multiple times during the day - not as often as he'd like), but other than that he just moves from the sofa to the floor, to the lb, to the water dish, etc. Once in a great while he'll go walkabout, and visit the kitchen and maybe sit by the screen door if it's open for a few minutes, but that's only about once a week or so. Poor kitty. I just don't know what to do to keep him entertained. He doesn't seem unhappy. But I guess he must be to self-mutilate like that.

You do an incredible job w/ all your furbabies. Hmmmmm, you can get babyfood by the case on Amazon. Not sure if it's much cheaper though.

Just reading the condo makes me tired. I am so impressed by all you do Tricia. :bighug: Paws crossed Cinco comes down a little and Minka's appy perks up. Catnip for Cinco to stimulate him a little? The fresh stuff here is at it's peak right now.

How are the hot spots caused? I thought they just popped up spontaneously but I gather Cinco does something to make them happen. What are they exactly?

Cinco's lifestyle sounds just like Vyktor's. He's not a player either and I do worry about him being bored occasionally but then I remind myself that a cats favourite pastime is sleeping. I figure that if he was bored surely he'd wander round more looking for things to get unbored so I guess he's okay. I would think that Cinco is too :bighug:

There are other causes for hot spots other than boredom....Wonder if there's something in the air that he's allergic to? With the coming of spring, there's lots of nasty stuff floating around.

I wonder if your acupuncturist has any "stress relieving" treatments? ....if she does, maybe they'd help Cinco....and they wouldn't hurt you either....LOL... You have so much on your plate as it is!

OK now Cinco....mamabean doesn't need anything else to worry about, so let's get that BG back down so she at least has that to smile about! Head on back down to the lagoon!

I'm sure Cinco is happy.....he is living with his family and he can hear you all. Most cats sleep a lot of the time and don't need an exciting life, unless they are a kitten who does want to play all the time.
My daughter's dog who lives here a lot of the time has a couple of spots on her leg which she won't leave alone. I don't think she is bored and she certainly isn't unhappy. She has to wear a collar to let it heal. Then it starts all over again. The vet doesn't know why she does it.

I had a blind cat for years.........she had high BP and it blew her retinas..........she lived to be 21 years and she knew her way around the place..........I didn't even know she was blind until I noticed she kept getting a wet tail. I watched her and she nearly fell in the pool as she was making her way around the house and that is how I found out she was blind. I had known she had lost sight in one eye because it was blood red and she started on BP tablets but the other eye went too. She led a quiet life, poking about the place. She knew how many steps there were to go upstairs and how many to go outside. She never made a mistake and tried to go up another step etc. They are very clever and adaptable creatures.
I am sure you are doing everything possible for Cinco and I am sure he is content.

I think that you need need to get a baby bjorn like thing, strap it on and stick Cinco in it....then he can get al the scritches he can handle....Plus the entertainment value of brining him to say the grocery store or craft store or what not....think of all the awesome stares you will get! Put a baby bonnet on him and act like he is any other infant....How awesome would that be?!

Hopefully that at least made you chuckle :)

Thanks for visiting, Ann, Wendy, Serryn, Chris, Bron and Molly. I appreciate all the kind words. It's hard not to get discouraged when it seems like we take one step forward and two steps back.

Cinco finally made it to the lagoon. That makes me feel a bit better.

Actually, @MollynSkooter, I've been looking for some kind of baby carrier for Sasha, since she's happiest when she's being held against my shoulder like a baby. No luck finding one that would work. And yes, that made me chuckle.

@rhiannon and shadow, :p:joyful: I don't think my bad back could handle that! Even Cinco alone would probably do me in!

@Ann & Tess, I did look on Amazon, and baby food is way more than it is in the grocery store.

@Wendy&Neko, I do give Cinco fresh catnip every now and then. It entertains him for about 3 minutes.

@Vyktors Mum, I have no idea how the hotspots are caused. The first two he had were from the adhesive left behind by the pain patches they put on his leg when he had his eyes removed. The next one he got, about three months ago, was in the armpit under one of his front legs. He just yanks the fur out in little tufts and licks the skin raw. The first of the two current ones starts just above his left rear leg and extends on to the upper part of the leg. The newest is on the right, further above the rear leg (that's as far as he could reach with the soft collar on. It's the chicken and the egg story - did the hot spots start and cause him to pull the hair out, or did he start pulling the hair out and create the hot spot?

@Chris & China, I'll have to ask Dr. Kress about that.

@Bron and Sheba , Cinco finds his way around pretty well, except when he has that massive collar on. It really messes him up. It's funny, sometimes he looks like he's counting steps.

I do appreciate all the vines. We'll take all the help we can get.

Hi Tricia, sorry to hear of all your problems. Not sure if this is of any help for Cinco but one of my civies, Chloe, is a fur plucker. Her belly and britches were red raw, due more to some sort of allergy I think, rather than stress related, she is the most unstressed cat ever. Anyway, a friend recommended Aloe Vera for skin irritations so I tried it and it works, she still has an occasional nibble but her belly/britches fur has grown back really well. Sorry can't give you the link from my tablet but the website is foreverliving.com and the product is Aloe Veterinary Formula, it's made in the US. Just might be worth a try, good luck.

Glad it was helpful. Mine isn't a spray, I just soak cotton wool and apply it that way or put it on my hands and massage it into the skin. Sometimes the noise of a spray startles them, just be prepared.

Yes that's the same one. A friend of mine is an agent for the French subsidiary and swears by Aloe Vera for almost everything, but then she would!
