All in all yesterday was ok. Tuxie ran in the pinks all morning with some yellows in the evening. A bit different than his "usual" (if there is such a thing!) but at least he did not do any high bouncing.

My son's 2 sister kitties (age 6 1/2)arrived here last night for their 1 month+ stay. He is still at the old apartment for the next 4 days to finish packing. He is storing his stuff and his kitties here and will be staying with friends until the new apartment is ready. I have joined the ranks of crazy cat lady.

My civie Maxie is planted upstairs with her own litter box, food dish and water dish, since she has never gotten along with the two "kids", even when they lived here a few years back.

My sweet Tuxie is on the main floor, checking out Maxie's food upstairs, and peeking in the basement to see what the "brats" are up to.

The grandkitties have the basement with separate litter boxes, food and water. Of course they are upset from being uprooted from their home and their Dad.

So all I have to do is feed 4 kitties separately, clean out 5 litterboxes, try to keep Tuxie from getting in his sister's food or the "brats'" food, try to figure out where Tuxie has peed so I can track his pee output and referee all the cats when the "brats" come upstairs. This morning I was awakened at 2 AM to the sound of Maxie digging in the upstairs litter box :( so my usual 5 hours sleep was interrupted as well.

Could be on interesting time the next month. We will see if any of this affects Tuxie's numbers. I can't imagine how some of you take care of multiple kitties with health problems. You are amazing!!

Sounds like you are having fun already!:joyful:
The joys of looking after ones childrens pets.
I have 4 chickens that belong to my daughter~~she can't have them at her new place. I had her 2 dogs for years. One died here, she was old, and the other finally went to live with her recently when they moved to their new place.
Good luck with it all!

Wow!! Chickens, dogs and kitties. What would our kids do without us?? :)

And here's another country heard from....I kept my mom's cat for over 9 months while she was in a nursing home/assisted living until she was healthy enough to move into her own apartment

I knew IF she ever made it out of there and was able to live on her own, she would need her furry little "nurse-kitty". Over the long winter when it was cold and miserable and I couldn't get her out much, I was always happy that I knew she had her kitty with her to keep her company and give her a reason to get up in the morning

So it works both ways!! But I guess that's what family is for

What a caring gesture. I totally understand that having a beloved furkid is one of the best medicines for people of all ages. I totally believe that people who love their furkids have a much deeper compassion for all living things. You are so right "that's what family is for". :)

My own mom is taking care of Noodle while I'm out of the country next week! She's stressed enough, can't imagine if she had 4 of them there ;) Us kids and grandkitties so, so appreciate Moms like you :bighug: Hope the brats don't throw Tuxie off too much!

It is so wonderful that family understands and cares. My son's friend who he originally was supposed to be roommates with said it was getting too hard to find a nice cat-friendly apartment, so why didn't he just get rid of them!!!  Needless to say they will NOT be roommates, thus the delay in my son getting his apartment.

So far today Tuxie's numbers have dropped way down. I don't know if it is from the change or just the insulin doing its thing!

Sounds like this will be a fun month or very entertaining for us. Maybe not so much for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the good luck..I may need it :)

Well my civie Maxie is officially the upstairs cat...she refuses to come down even if the "brats" aren't there. So she has her litter box, food and water up in my bedroom. I have to go up every few hours and comb and cuddle with her. Poor girlie!!

The basement kitties AKA "the brats" are venturing to the main floor and taking over my kitty's kitty tree. They have their own tree downstairs, that I bought for them when my son first adopted them. I have it situated right by a window, which I have open so that they can sniff the smells and see what is happening, but no that is not good enough for them. They keep checking out Tuxie's food dish, but of course that is always empty. So far they haven't venture into Maxie's upstairs sanctuary but that will come.

Tuxie's main area is the main floor. However since there is now food in the basement and upstairs he has decided to do food patrol. This is good and bad...good because he is more active looking for food; bad that I have to make sure he doesn't find any other food even though it is the same as what he eats. I have the "brats" area more or less boarded off with just enough room for them to get through. They are smaller kitties, so can fit through where Tuxie can't. When the "brats" are on the main floor there are rounds of hissing and growling between Tuxie and them...so far no out and out warfare....yet.

The 5 litter boxes seem to be a free for all. Whoever needs to use the LB uses whichever one is handier. So I am getting my exercise going up and down 2 flights of stairs..feeding, cleaning boxes, giving attention and playing peace keeper. I was hoping to have a nap but oh well...maybe later??

It always tastes better in the other bowl!:p

Good luck with the integration. Paws crossed the grandkits are older and wiser now.

Oh, my, you will be busy. I hope everyone gets along ok.
Liz

They were never "friends" even during the year they lived here a few years back. But they eventually settle into a sort of truce...that should happen just about the time they will be going to their new apartment though

With Tuxie (my food vacuum) ANY food tastes good ..lol

Hopefully within the next 3 or 4 days things will settle back down to the truce level. I just feel bad for Maxie girl. The "brats" always picked on her because she is so laid back and doesn't fight back. Unfortunately I don't have a door to the basement so I can't even lock them down there for periods of time so Maxie could come down. But she gets room service for her food and water , as well as a few Orijen treats (which she loves) and her LB is close at hand. I just have to make sure I give her extra one on one time.

Nice blood sugar for Tuxie today - I'm glad to see that green in there! When he gets under 120 AT or so, you might try doling out some regular low carb to see if you can get him to surf a little longer in good numbers. That helps some cats.

Good luck with all the cats - I had my daughter's 2 cats living here for 6 months a while back. As you said, it wasn't that anyone liked anyone, but they eventually sort of found a truce. There was a definite pecking order and Punkin was at the top, although he didn't have to do anything to establish himself there. It was like having a lion in the room - they don't have to make you respect them, you just do. My little civvie Anya and my daughter's cat Jackson were at the bottom of the pecking order and both of them tried not to be there, lol. cats.

There is a definite pecking order here. Tuxie is at the top, maybe because he is the only male. My Maxie civie unfortunately is at the bottom. Tuxie will sit in the same room with the "brats" and they hiss and growl at each other. Maxie on the other hand if she even hears them moving anywhere in the house she hides under my bed. The "brat girls" will also pick on Maxie if they catch her by herself. No out and out warfare but they will hiss and run at her...they truly like to taunt her...you can see them grinning at each other after scaring poor Maxie. Thus the nickname "brats"
