AMPS 247. Blood ketones 0.8. Weight 10lbs 4oz. Vomited several times last night, couple pudding diarrheas in the the box. Weight is lower than it's ever been, ketones back up. Things aren't looking good and it just doesn't seem like we're making any progress. BG is out of control, he's had daily vomiting and diarrhea for over a month now. He's waking me up multiple times during the night because he's hungry because he either doesn't want to eat the food that's put out for him or I have to remind him that it's food, so I'm not getting much sleep.

Wish I had answers for you. Have you tried pumpkin?
Yeah and it didn't have any effect, and the sites I've been reading like the EZComplete, AnimalBiome, and rawfeedingforcats don't actually recommend the pumpkin. They recommend the S.Boulardi probiotic for diarrhea and slippery elm bark for nausea. I've been doing the s.b but I just order the seb for delivery today.

We're just in this negative bio-feedback loop with the B-12. The B-12 is low because of the GI issues, and the GI issues are partly caused by the low B-12. And none of the suggested treatments like the probiotics or diet are going to be very effective with the low B-12. So that seems like the best thing to try and resolve first.

So, I just did some more research into the B-12 deficiency. Knowing that my vets aren't that great, I started to question whether their dosage and frequency recommendations were legit. They prescribed .25ml every 7 days. My research showed the dosage can be anywhere from .25ml -.5ml, and that since it's water soluble, any excess is excreted through the kidneys and you can't overdose. The AnimalBiome website said that cats who aren't properly absorbing B-12 can exhaust their stores in 5 days. So, I'm going to start giving him .5ml every 5 days.

Ollie doesn't have deficiency but was started on b12. 0.25ml weekly x4, then every other week x4, then monthly. She didn't do well with monthly dose So we are doing every 2 weeks still. For her it's more for the lethargy and nerve pain in her spine and legs. Dr thought it would be better than the zobaline which worked pretty well I thought. But definitely better with the injections.

190@+5. At least that's something.

No vomit this morning but he's back to having the scoots real bad, heading to the box every couple hours and dropping soup with very little to no solids. Appetite is down a bit this afternoon too, he ate breakfast quickly but hasn't had much interest in lunch and I've had to syringe feed him.

I decided to modify my plan a bit. I've been mixing in the Merrick Beef food for several weeks now since he seems to like that more than the Wellness Core T&D and will more readily eat it when he's feeling sick, however, in reviewing my notes, I see we didn't start feeding that to him until after him started the vomit bout a month ago but before the diarrhea kicked in. I only have one note of a slightly loose stool before we changed the food, so there's a possibility the Beef is either causing or at least contributing to the diarrhea, so I'm taking it off the table. I'm also going to hold off on the EZComplete and only feed the Wellness Core which is what we've been feeding him since Janurary and I think is the least likely to be causing the immediate issues. Gotta get some of the variables out of the mix and figure out what's causing what. It seems possible the Beef is an issue since there's a correlation between it and the start of the diarrhea. Less evidence for the EZComplete. The diarrhea got worse yesterday and today after starting him back on it, but he was also eating pretty much only eating the Beef the past couple days, so it could be either one.

After looking into the B12 this morning I feel like that's the most relevant avenue for immediate treatment, where we need to get that under control before anything else will really be effective anyways, so I'm less concerned about getting the transition to raw done right away. I'll still do it as soon as possible, with any luck things will clear up after we get him off the Beef and then can start again.

161@+9, PMPS 230. Blood ketones: 0.5. Was hoping BG was going to continue to drop but I guess not, but at least we spent a bit of the day in the blues. Ketones came down a bit so that's good. Still got bad diarrhea, going about every hour with a small volume, mostly soup with maybe a little tiny bit of solid. Got the slippery elm bark power and gave him his first dose of that. So hopefully between that, the s.boulardi, and the regular food we can start getting things back closer to normal.
