My oh my....what a late start this morning afternoon!! I got up at the usual 6 a.m. to test/feed/shoot, went back to bed, was awakened by a very hungry kitty again at +1, got up to give him more food, gave him more than usual so I could again go back to bed and stay there, got up at 10 cuz my back was killing me due to the fact it was not used to lying down for more than four hours at a time, and then received a really amazing phone call which lasted for an entire hour!!!! Then it was time for the DD to go to work, but there was nothing in the house for her to take for her dinner and she was working an 8 hour shift today, so I worked my usual magic in the kitchen and made the MOST AMAZING pasta dish in 20 minutes. My house now smells amazing, the DD is off to work with some excellent food, and I have her laptop to finally open Champ's condo.

Since this condo is supposed to be about Champ, here's the info on him. He's fine. He's sleeping. He's being a cat.

All done!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. I'm going to do a little work and then think about painting my office and fixing it up! :-D

hahaha - love your morning report. i had nearly the same morning but was up by 11:15. now i'm cranky though from sleeping all morning. fortunately my husband just left and i can't pick on him from a distance. he was smart to leave. :-D more caffeine is on my agenda.

painting your office sounds very ambitious! a good project for a long weekend.

Julie, you seriously know how to make me lol!!! Picking on him at a distance!!! That really is the way to do it cuz when they talk back, you can either not answer the phone or ignore their texts!!! It's starting to get warm here in Las Vegas so I may have to start having diet Coke in the house again. I tend to drink coffee in the winter and diet caffeinated drinks in the summer. And I don't care if they aren't good for me or will rot out my stomach or give me cancer, blah blah blah. Caffeine is a must in my life, a must I tell you!!! :-D :-D :-D

It sounds like you were going to have a full day with painting your office. I love painting and find it very therapeutic although i don't like rolling the paint...my specialty is the trim! And you are a cook, too! Very talented!

Happy to hear Champ is doing well today. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Oh Georgia, I wish you were here. I don't mind the rolling, but HATE the trim. I'm so impatient and you have to be sooo careful. :lol: :lol:

Oh my goodness, only 2 years ago i hated coffee and never ever drank it.....now i'm so addicted its disgusting! Can you seriously quit coffee and replace it with diet coke? I think i'd be having some nasty headaches if i did.

Champ has decided today is a nice day to bounce has he? What a silly kitter, maybe you'll have another interesting evening ahead of you!

You are such a good momma cooking your DD a nice meal for her to take to work!

What a morning report that was, you are such a good mom for whipping up a gourmet meal for your DD.. Did you ever get to the painting? and your diet coke?.. I wish i lived closer, I don't mind painting or doing trim.. I'm weird like that... :roll: No more bouncing for you Champ, you hear!

Hi guys - mice morning report for champ - what fun. :-D I too am impressed on your cheffin' skills - gourmet food in 20 minutes. I couldn't even come close. :lol: :lol: Better be careful - Chef Mannie geta wind of that and he will pout you to work with the kitchen krew. :lol: :lol:

Marje, I don't think Champ's going to give me a reason to stay up tonight, but I slept so much this morning, I know I'll be up. Besides, there are all those reasons I posted in Gracie's condo!!

I'm painting my office, and probably my bedroom, a sage green. I wanted something soothing and neutral, but not boring. Plus I have curtains from my old house that will match that color so I won't have to buy new ones!! :lol: :lol:

Champ's done nothing today except sleep in my daughter's room, ON A PILE OF FLIP-FLOPS. Not joking. He came and got me at +2 to give him another bite to eat and then off to sissy's room again. Geez, he's giving me a complex...he loves flip-flops more than his mama!! :sad: :lol:

Geez, wasn't expecting this at all. I had already put some 2% FF in front of him and he ate that so I gave him some 18% Friskies with gravy, just a small spoonful, also. What now?

I'd give him a little karo or HC gravy. Do you have HC gravy? If you give him karo, it will wear off but it will bump him up quicker. Retest in 30 mins and then we'll see what he needs.

eta: duh....just saw that you gave him 18%....sorry. Where is my mind? Good job. So recheck him 30 mins after you gave him the 18%. I'll check back in.

I do have some HC food in gravy. I gave him some Karo, which he didnt want so I wiped it on his mouth and I had already given him some HC food with gravy (spoonful) a few minutes earlier so I'll check him again in about 15 minutes

ok...you usually don't want to give him food outside of his regular feeding times because you don't want him to get too full. So the gravy works really nicely and they
usually love it. You'll have to play with it and see how he does; if he's stubborn about coming up with the gravy, the karo is great or even a drop or so IN the gravy works well, too.

I have to check Gracie. Be back in 5 or so.

Nice....Chompers....you like the gravy!!!!

Here's what I do with Gracie...once she is going up, I do not give her any more carbs and I recheck in 30. If you look at her SS, I started testing every 30 mins at her onset. I just got her bumped up to 66 but I only use karo with her so I'll have to keep rechecking every 30 until she stays up on her own.

Some cats, and Champ may be one, only take a little and then they stay up. He's also getting close to his nadir so I wouldn't give him any food or anything else; just recheck in 30 and then see where he is.

I'll be up quite a while so I'll check in in 30 mins from your last post.

i have to disagree with my friend, marjorie. there's very, very few kitties currently in LL who need to be using karo on a regular basis (gracie is one of them).

with most kitties, a teaspoon of hc is *usually* all that's needed to bump low numbers up (< 50). the hc will stick with kitty longer than karo will.

if a kitty is carb sensitive, it may only take a teaspoon of lc to bump the numbers up. it all depends on the cat.

now, if you need to bump low numbers up fast, a little bit of karo will do the trick.



edited to add: i neglected to mention...
if kitty takes a nose-dive early in the cycle, you'll want to stick with hc gravy so as not to fill kitty up. depending on the drop, you may even want to add a little karo to that hc gravy to slow things down.

Hi Patty, once he's up, if you give just a tsp of LC, that might help keep him up and help him surf. Gracie tends to zoom if Marje gives much, but many cats need a bit of food to help hold them up and get them surfing....just a thought, you will need to see how he reacts. Nice catch!

I was just up grabbing a test on Tinkles and peeked in...

ETA: I see Jill is up too! She makes a good point about trying LC first, and I agree with her...again, a bit of LC food can help them surf....50s are good!

Sheesh I'm half asleep ohmygod_smile , I reread that...Jill didn't say that....but you might want to try just LC in the 50s when you get a bit more comfortable with the lower numbers. He may stop dropping and surf with just LC.

So sorry....didn't mean to imply that alot of cats in LL got karo. Only that if she couldn't get him up, she could use it. Just wanted to give her an idea of what to do if he didn't come up while I was also trying to keep track of Gracie.

Jill and Laurie are sooooo right....Gracie is a karo kitty. Tonight I'm using LC with just a tiny drop of karo when I need it. Ann suggested in our condo some time ago that I might try it with Gracie like she does with Tess and it's worked nicely so far.

Okay, that last test was a flippin nightmare. I DO NOT like my cat when he is in low numbers. He's mean and he bites!! Danielle had to wrap him up in a blanket and hold him down while I poked because he was being very aggressive. And he does it all without make a sound which actually is scarier than if he hissed and snarled!!

Do I check again in 30 minutes?

i'm so sorry he gets like that in lower numbers.
i think if you give him a teaspoon of lc it'll get him up on a surf board. if you can stay awake, another test in an hour would be good just to make sure he's holding steady. if you can't keep your eyes open any longer, i would leave a bunch of lc out for him before you go to bed.

Yeah I'm fine to stay up late. I just gave him a tsp of LC and I'll check him again at 12:30, which is one hour from last time. Thanks everybody for checking in on us. :-D

no i'm sorry, marjorie. i over-reacted. i've been flipping out lately over all the unnecessary use of karo in LL these days. granted alex is carb sensitive, but i think i've only used it once, maybe twice in 5 years. in most cases, hc or hc gravy is a better choice for bumping up numbers in the 40s. lc in the 50s. there are always exceptions to every rule... gracie's one of them! :lol:

Jill: aaahhh....thanks!!!! Don't we have cats on the opposite end of the spectrum...Alex gets a bump from freeze dried chicken treats and Gracie needs karo. It's late...we're all tired. Champ is up and hopefully will have a great surf.

Sorry Champ was trying to bite you! Tinkles always gets a bit testy when he gets down in the low 40s or below, he doesn't try to bite, but he flicks his ear and pulls his head away....I always know when he's low before the meter shows the number! He has gotten better since he is used to the lower numbers now...he used to get up and try to leave....hopefully Champ will too. He may not like the feeling of his BG dropping so much, or so fast.

I'm really heading to bed now....just checked in one more time to see if he had dropped again on you. If you are heading to bed and are nervous, you could give a bit of LC...you don't want to overdo it because he's around nadir now, so he will be heading up soon. Beautiful numbers, nice job managing them!
