Trix is doing pretty well today. Her appy is OK...I've seen better, I've seen worse. I'm not sure why...I guess it's just one of those things....big sigh. She has been snuggly, though, and was pretty interested in the kibblehead bowls this morning, although not quite as enthusiastically as she was yesterday. I'm still trying to get used to this new version of normal we have; wondering if she'll ever really eat a normal amount without me holding the bowl again; still amazed that she felt awesome when her kidney values were through the roof but how this pancreatitis really walloped her on so many levels. I'm trying to give her enough breathing room so she can feel like herself without having me helicopter, while at the same time making sure she eats enough. I so wish we could test for everything else at home (kidneys, BP, etc) like we can for BGs!

She's not getting a pokey again until PMBG since this morning's AMBG fell in the normal range.

I'm off again today, but as usual have chores and fuds shopping on the docket. But a day off from work is a day off to me, no matter what I have to do at home!

Speaking of fuds, the other day, I bought 20 cans of what I thought was FF Classic Chicken for $11 the other day. When I went to unpack the bag yesterday, I discovered it was FF ROASTED chicken. Why do they have to make the labels so darn close in color??? I had to take it back since the carb content was too high, and the girl at customer service made about 8 attempts at the refund before she finally gave up and gave me the refund for the full price even though I paid a sale price.

Have a great day, LL!

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

LOVE that amps! Trixie, you are doing so great. I think we can say you are off the juice. how cool is that? I so understand when you say it is hard to get used to the new normal for her. it was the same with Mannie. Mannie's P'titis was rated medium to not quite severe, and although he did recover from it, he never really was the same kitty. Not the the new one was bad, just different than what I was used to. I can remember saying too how I wished I could test for the other things at home, especially that BP one. He'd eat all that I needed him to eat, but it took a little time, some encouragement. I no longer had my Mr Hoover kitty. At least he keep the Mannie fuds dance. It is good to read that Trixie is being Trixie.

OMG on the FF fuds. I so agree on that - often the label colors are so similar that I have come home with what I though was that chicken and it actually was something else.

Enjoy your day off! Good luck with the chores and the shopping.

Re: 5/27 Trixie AMBG 113

Loving the blue with no juice. Way to go Trixie. Ah yes, the "new" normal. Sounds like she is humming along though. Maybe she just likes the one on one time with you. :-D Wouldn't it be nice to be able to test for everything ourselves. The vets would lose way too much money. FF drives me CRAZY with their cans. You have to really read them to make sure to grab the right thing. Have a wonderful day off Amy!

Hi guys .. another beautiful start for trixie this morning! So impressed with her numbers lately! I hear ya on the identical labels .. it's especially true for the friskies SPECIAL DIET and Friskies SENIOR DIET .. it doesn't help either that the stock boys don't realize there's a difference and stack them altogether ohmygod_smile have a great day guys!

Hi Amy - what a lovely little gray kitty you have. You're doing a great job keeping Trixie OTJ - :RAHCAT . Have a great day off and I hope you have some beautiful, warm, sunny weather in the garden state. Anne

Nice start for Trixie this morning. It's great to hear she's being so snuggly. How frustrating on the FF.

Re: 5/27 Trixie AMBG 113

I've done the same thing with the ff more than once and the store manager gave me the full price back as well. I'm really liking those BG results and find it fascinating that pancreatitis brought Trixie into remission yet caused Max to be diabetic. Here's hoping Trixie never needs the juice again. Pancreatitis can take many months to resolve as it comes and goes. Just keep doing what you are doing as it's working.

Re: 5/27 Trixie AMBG 113

I think you are getting so used to improvements every day that you've come to expect them, Amy. Miss Trixie has you spoiled! Put down the microscope and just enjoy how well she's doing and that you have your Trixie back! End of lecture. ;-)

I'm glad to see her AMBG back down in the healthy range - not that her previous ones have been bad. I hear you on the home testing wish. Wouldn't that be lovely? Because we know the best time to test is when they're relaxed, and when are they ever relaxed at the vet? If we can put a man on the moon......

I've bought the wrong kind of FF, and Friskies, too. There is not enough distinction on the labels, and if someone puts a can back in the wrong spot, I'll be the one to buy it! It's a sad commentary on job performance when the cashier can't figure out how to refund the correct amount and ends up cheating her employer (can you tell I've worked in management?). At least she did her best to make the customer happy, so I guess that gives her a pass.

Enjoy your day off, Amy!

Nice PMBG for Trix...but she did have some dry heaves just minutes before dinner  . Once she recovered, she did eat an OK amount, but I did give her some cerenia along with her pepcid and BP meds. She seems very comfy now...actually she seemed very comfy before the meds even kicked in, so it is a little confusing. I do wonder if maybe the p-titis is flaring still a bit? She hasn't been eating as well the past few days, but once the cerenia kicked in, she started eating quite well. So I don't know...confused bean doesn't quite know what to do. I may try to make a vetty appointment for tomorrow, depending on how things go here....

Amy, how much time between the meds and feeding her? When do you give her the pepcid and when is her last meal of the night? I think when they go too long without food is when the dry heaves start. That is the case for Max and I'm having a hard time not feeding him between +6 and his morning insulin. My vet told me to feed small amounts more often with pancreatitis and that seems to go against the 6 hours without food.

Trix gets her meds (pepcid and BP meds) at about 5:45 (AM & PM). She had last eaten at about 12:30pm and the dry heaves were at about 5:00pm, so it was starting to get a bit long for her. I do feed her small frequent meals - partly because that's how SHE wants to eat these days (new behavior since the p-titis), but I also know it's better for her, especially right now. I usually stay up till around 12:30 every night to get a last late night snack into her. The daytime can be a little trickier since I do work and have to leave the house just before 10:00. Fortunately, I can usually get home to give her a snack, but not always (like Thursday - I'll be working the store by myself so I won't be able to leave). At the moment, she really won't eat any food I leave out. A couple years ago, when she was healthy (only had the FD to contend with), I had tried a timed feeder, but she never caught on to it, so given what we're juggling now, I know a timed feeder will never work with her.

I did make a vetty appointment for 3:40 tomorrow afternoon, more for my peace of mind. She seems quite comfy and happy this evening, and she is eating much more readily with cerenia on board. We had cut way back on the cerenia because she is extra sensitive to drug interactions and there is a possibility it could interact with her BP meds, but she does seem to be OK with these meds together. The cypro is a whole 'nuther ball of wax...very bad news for Trix when mixed with her BP meds.

She is instinctively eating in the way that is best for pancreatitis. Smart girl. What happened with the mix of cypro/cerenia with her bp? I forget. Max didn't have an issue with amlodipine and cypro or ondansetron that I know of so I'm curious.

Trix was frighteningly lethargic and weak when I gave her 1/4 of a cypro tablet...most likely the combination of amlodopine, benazepril, and cypro caused her BP to drop too low, or the combination magnified the lethargy side effect of cypro...one or the other, but no matter what, it was scary. She was a zombie that night (If I remember correctly, she did NOT have cerenia that night...just the cypro in combination with her BP meds and the pepcid). When I was giving her 1/8 of a cypro, she seemed sluggish, but I thought that was the p-titis talking. When I tried the 1/4 tablet to see if I could get a bigger boost and get her eating more on her own (without me holding the plate) and I saw how she reacted, I put 2 and 2 together and realized that the sluggishness was being caused by the 1/8 cypro. Thank God I didn't give her the 1/2 cypro that vettys usually recommend! As soon as I stopped the cypro, she perked right up - and was actually eating BETTER than when she was on the cypro. I think it must have made her dizzy or uncomfortable or something along those lines, and that was killing her appy.

She also has a problem with bupe and the BP meds, too. The first few days of the p-titis, she wasn't getting the full dose of her BP meds and the bupe didn't bother her too much. But one night I gave her bupe after she did have a full BP med dose and again, she was an absolute zombie...way, way, way stoned - and I had even dialed back the dose that the vet and prefilled the syringe with.

She doesn't seem to have an issue with the cerenia and her BP meds, or the ondansetron with her BP meds, but we were being extra cautious because it did say on Tanya's CRF site that amlodipine and these meds can react together adversely, too, and she seems to be extra sensitive to certain drug interactions.

Yes, she is smart in how she is eating...but she sure keeps MamaBean guessing and busy. I'd do anything for her, though...she's so sweet.
