Re: 5/27 Lucian AMPS 438,+3.5/192

Droppin' like a rock.

Since he's obviously clearing the bounce, what can you do keep him from doing it so fast, which sets him up for another one?

Re: 5/27 Lucian AMPS 438,+3.5/192

hmmm, yeah he is.

I have two thoughts after yesterday, one about R and one about food. Forgive me, I haven't studied ALL of Lucian's spreadsheet, just the last week or so, so there may be something I am missing. It looks like he rose 150 points after his +10 snack early this morning, and I see similar cycles on other days. For some cats, feeding at the end of the cycle can really affect their preshots. You are giving food at a time when the exogenous insulin is at its weakest, so if he is a good food spiker there might not be enough insulin to overcome that food. Can you move his late snack to be earlier in the cycle instead of +9 or +10? Or maybe give just a small spoonful or even a no carb chicken treat to tide him over.

About the R, assuming that this fast drop will set off another bounce, then you might have another opportunity to use R today. If you'll be home this afternoon, I would watch for the rise to begin and hit him with 0.1u of R. Do it as soon as you catch a decent rise beginning, as long as it is after+7. Depending on what he does, you might even be able to give another drop at +11 or PMPS.

I'm leaving for the rest of the day, but my PMPS is about the same time as yours so I'll try to check in later to see what happened today.

Re: 5/27 Lucian AMPS 438,+3.5/192

I haven't figured out how NOT to feed him when he wants to eat. He free fed for 14 years and now eats every 4 hrs or so, sometimes more sometimes less.

That snack wasn't the norm. He'll spike without it. Usually he doesn't have anything at that time. It's usually 4 hrs before shot time.

I can hold him off for about 30 mins with carb free treats, but that's about it, he's VERY vocal and will pitch a fit when he doesn't get something to eat when he's hungry.

Have to figure out a way for him not to eat in the last 4 hrs. My feral eats every 6 hrs, but not Lucian. He always wants to eat more often when he's running high too.

Re: 5/27 Lucian AMPS 438,+3.5/192, 6.25/77

Could you free feed him for the 10 hours after the shot?

If he scarfs, freezing part of it may be done, so it can be nibbled while thawing.

And because you're still working on regulation, he may feel better with as much as 50% more food than a normal cat his size because he can't process it well.

Just an idea.

Re: 5/27 Lucian AMPS 438,+3.5/192, 6.25/77,+8/71

He doesn't free feed any more, he eats about every 4 hrs. Sometimes it's 3, sometimes 5. I just feed him when he wants to eat because he is so loud when I don't.

He just woke up, will want to eat, but it's 3 hrs until shot time. I might give him some fresh cooked turkey meat I have left over since it won't have carbs. Shouldn't effect his bg's so much, although he's gonna bounce from the 70's today, it may not be tonight but in the morning.

I didn't control him with food today, he ate at normal times, his normal food and I let him drop. We'll see what happens.

He's by my chair meowing, will give him some turkey.

Good thing you know what to do!
Feed
Wait 20 minutes
Re-test
Repeat until safe.

How's he doing?

Oops - it was 315, not 31. There was a digit missing.

Re: 5/27 Lucian 6.25/77,+8/71,+9/69,+10/137,+11/315,PMPS 299

Oh hon! The last number didn't show, it was 315!

He was sky rocketing, so I gave the R .1 and his PMPS is 299. It would have been over 500 if I hadn't, he was spiking too fast. Will be testing every hour for a while.

Re: 5/27 Lucian +9/69,+10/137,+11/315,PMPS 299,+1/316,+2/259

OK. Did think it strange.

Hopefully the Lantus has kicked in and will keep it stable now. Glad I was able to keep him from going sky high, where he was headed.
