I use gabapentin periodically for Cali with the skin rolling [nerve condition]. However her last veterinarians of record both agreed that she needs some pre-sedation for ANY veterinarian care. However Dr. Nina Owens advised better to increase gabapentin dosage and not combine with ace promozine as combo slowed her heart rate /blood pressure down a bit too much.
We are VERY judiciously conservative with any drugs for humans and animals. Maybe sometimes too judicious, yes
 
I started using it foir Bella for the same kind of thing. She has mild arthritis and had this condition where she would look in pain when we touched her anywhere on her lower back, with spasms visible. Maybe it's skin rolling? So our vet prescribed Gaba, and she also said to give her more before vet visits because she gets stressed.
It's been working well, but I think the real difference has been her teeth removal. She had resorption and had to have almost all of her teeth removed. She does not act in pain anymore since, I did not see her skin spasm and she does not complain, wherever we pet her, even on her legs or her back. I mean, except when she does not want to, she is still a cat :cat: I've been wondering about if i should stop the Gabapentin, and if yes how. Should I lower the dose? I'm not sure. I will ask the vet next time we go.
 
@Jessica A uses Gaba for her kitty Callie for feline hyperesthesia and seizures. Not sure she will see this tag though since she's not on FDMB very much any more...

For some reason, vets prefer to use gaba for pain rather than bupe. I give my civvie Budge 50mg gaba twice a day for arthritis. @cecile & bella while researching gaba dosage for cats, I read that it should not be stopped abruptly but gradually tapered off.
