I've been posting on the main thread, as kind of a newbie here and they said not many people would be on in here due to the Memorial Day weekend.

We have had a tough couple of days with Jinglebells' eating habits/vomiting some, etc. More info on the main forum (and I suspect you can click on my name and find the posts).

Tough day on ear pricks this am, too. Sigh.

Morning and welcome to Relaxed Lantus.

One thing that would help immensely is a spreadsheet so we can all see the numbers you're seeing. One preshot number tells virtually nothing. She could have gone low overnight and bounced up again. She could need more insulin or less insulin etc. While in a lot of ways this is a numbers game it's also about learning your cat's unique pattern.

I haven't had a chance to go back and read your other posts yet but wanted to at least pop in and welcome you.

Until you can get a spreadsheet up if you could give me her numbers since she's been on Lantus that would be extremely helpful.

Okay one more question for you. You said she was eating Royal Canin...which one specifically? From what I'm seeing from Dr Lisa's food charts most are way too high in carbs for a diabetic cat.

Hi,

Our "last" vet put her on the Royal Cainin Calorie Control food.

We took a day off from ear pricks, but did a spot check today at the +12 (12 hours after we gave her the .5 in the am) time slot. We pretty much know the doctor is going to put her on another dose at night, but we are grateful that he is willing to go slow with us. We are really gun shy after our PZI trials where we almost lost her twice. :cry:

We have only been doing one prick a day--so traumatic for us. She is not a bleeder (hot packs don't help) and she gets really MAD at us. It makes it hard to do a tiny little prick and most times I hear it just going through the ear--OUCH! Poor baby...I am doing my best.

Good news is that after hitting day 5, she has been more back to herself. Since adding the sprinkles of grilled and pulverized turkey breast, she is again eating the Royal Cainin with no vomiting. Her appetite seems to be back on course. She's been more lively and vocal. Today was a good day (Hope that is what the star meant)--except for our high numbers. Hopefully, slowly, we will get there.

Oh sweetie your Jingles can't be worse to test than my Cali when she first arrived..in the beginning with her I had to use a towel like a matador's cape while wearing leather motorcycle gloves just to touch her without getting bit. The secret is TREATS!! Well that and baby steps. Also are you using the lancing device or free handing the pokes?

With Cali I found it wasn't the pokes she hated it was the sound of the device so with her I free hand. I also worked up to the pokes slowly. First rewarding her for coming to where I wanted to test her and in her case letting me touch her without biting. Then coming to her spot and letting me hold her ear. Then letting me hold and click the device without a lancet on her ear. Etc. Now 3 months later the cat that would scream and attack with teeth bared has earned the nickname puppy cat. Lol because she follows me like a dog and races to her testing spot.

Hi just jumping in here when Trey was first Dx my DH was doing the testing and I was a basket case ....hate needles . He was always tell Trey how sorry he was he had to do this and was stressed himself..lucky for me and Trey he got called away for a few days. Well cried and pulled up my big girl panties ..took lots of deep breaths and never say you are sorry. They feel your mood...you are stressed and sorry then they feel it is wrong and they don`t want it done. You have to be very calm and surround yourself with beautiful white peaceful light. wrap kitty in a towel and say we are going to help you feel better will only be a smill pick...do it let her go treat done!!!!! 1st time I tried took 5-6 pokes most never touch the ear was so scared did the above and sap done Trey never felt a thing...shortly after that he became my cat. even today he got up on the table laid on his towel and waited for me...I just throw his towel over his shoulder a comfort thing I guess. Its all about your mood...if you can remain calm and then so will Jinglebells try it what do you have to loose....Hugs and peaceful white ligh and healing green light surround all you furry one and peeps. Lol oh how I remember what a basket case you were in the beginning and now you're a champ!!

We're all scared in the beginning but without testing you're running the risk of Jinglebells hypoing again. Hypo isn't scary if you catch it early when all it takes is a little snack to pull the numbers back up. Hypo gets scary when they get to the point that they are limp, unresponsive or god forbid having seizures. Just yesterday my girl Autumn hit 26 with no outward signs she was in trouble if I hadn't tested her and got food in her immediately I could very well lost her because we're in the middle of moving and I was just about to run to the new house.

~O) :lol: :dizcat dancing_cat I have come a long long way to even giving Sq fluid to out 17 year old kitty who had renal failure ....then lost him to bladder cancer. I don`t like doing these needle things but we do it out of love. Thank you Mel for remembering I guess I left an everlasting impression :lol: Kath
