5/26, Susie, 129 AMPS (Lowest), 128 @+2, 112 @+2, 99 @+3

If Susie is starting the day at 129, chances are that she will not drop 100 points. Once you get into lower numbers they stay flatter. That’s how Lantus works. You should still watch her but resist the temptation to fill her up with too much food or MC.

That is very interesting, Katherine. I never knew that they don't usually drop too much in lower numbers. I just got a 99 at +3 and did not feed this time. I am keeping an eye on her. She seems like she is flattening out. I have to leave at 12:45 (EST) this afternoon so hopefully she will be slightly on the move up by then.

This is where the moniker "Shoot Low to Stay Low!" comes from. :) There have been times when Ruby has dropped to a lime green from a blue preshot, but never 100 points and that was always my fault because I would see a blue number at shot time and go back to sleep until +3. :banghead: Shenanigans! You watch Susie like a hawk tho. It would never happen on your watch.

I need help understanding how much to feed Susie each day. If I understand what I have read in Catinfo.org, and she is currently 14 lbs and probably should be 12 lbs, then she should only be getting about 180 calories each day. She is not a small female but not large either. Looking at the calorie content of the FF Pate - if I fed 2 cans a day then the highest calories would be about 190 calories a day. The lowest would be 164 calories a day. I have been feeding too much (about 2.75 cans a day). Am I correct in assuming that since Susie is 14 lbs and should be down to at least 12 lbs then I should not be feeding more that 2 cans a day (around 180 calories)? Hope this makes sense.

I don't know how I am going to do this as I am pretty adamant that she get 1/2 can at AMPS, 1/2 can at +6 (am cycle), 1/2 can at PMPS and 1/2 can during her night time cycle (split between +2 and +5). That leaves nothing between AMPS and +6.

I'm really not good in the pm cycle. Looking at her +2 last night (217) and her 158 at +11.25 she could have gone lower in the middle of the night. She had a pretty big drop from PMPS to +2 and I should have made myself get up and test during the night.

Why? How about feeding 1/4 can each time? You want a slow weight loss. I don’t remember the formula but if you follow the directions Dr. Lisa gives she will lose slowly.

I did not see any directions from Dr. Lisa. Maybe I didn't go far enough into the site. I just saw the:

If your cat weighs 18 pounds but really should weigh 12 pounds, please make sure that he is consuming ~180 calories per day. (12 pounds lean body mass X 15 calories/pound/day = ~180 calories/day)

In reality, the cat in the above example would probably be completely safe at only 150 calories per day.

If you have a small female cat that should only weigh 9 pounds, please make sure that she is consuming at least 135 calories per day.

Canned foods never list the calorie content on the can but many dry foods do list this information on the bag. A rough guideline for the calorie content of most canned foods that are 78% moisture is ~30 calories/ounce but can range from 20 to 40 calories/ounce as shown by the chart linked above.

Looks like a beautiful day!

Have to get the Vetsulin out of your head :p I struggle with it too

I assume you want her to have that much food available in case she goes low? Like Elise said you can just feed smaller amounts, but if you're worried then shift it - perhaps something like 1/3 can at PS times and maybe +2, and then the remainder split between the +4/5 range?

I look at this and thank you!
