Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE OR HOLD LONGER AMPS 243

I think you have room to increase and it looks like you test a lot, so that will help.

Good luck with the increase, when you decide to do it.

Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE OR HOLD LONGER AMPS 243

I would probably hold for 2 more cycles since I saw the 99 and see what numbers that I get. In the past 2.25 was too much, but that doesn't mean it is still is too much.

You test a lot so I think you would fine if want to increase though.

Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE OR HOLD LONGER AMPS 243

Thanks for responding Catherine and Dyana. I was already 15 minutes late so I did shoot the 2.0. I'll see how it goes and either increase tonight if he stays pretty high or tomorrow morning if I'm not sure and want to sleep. I think it will be needed though. The vet on the lymphoma list said that smoldering chronic pancreatitis will produces an unstable diabetes. Now I'm sorry I didn't have my vet check the fPL when I was there last. His symptoms just aren't there for pancreatitis though. I'm going to write back to him later and give him my take on things and see what he says. I wish he lived in California. The guy is amazing.

Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE OR HOLD LONGER AMPS 243

smoldering pancreatitis and hyperthyroid both can make it harder for a cat to get regulated.

yes, i'd increase. your goal is all the numbers between 50-120. Most of the time 6 shots is enough to tell if the dose is getting you there.

Re: 5/26 Max HELP FOR TONIGHT INCREASE OR HOLD LONGER AMPS

I just tested and he seems to be bouncing from last night. I was all set to increase tonight. Do I still do it or see if he clears the bounce? Or is this not a bounce? Six months and I'm still so confused!!!

Thanks.

Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE IF BOUNCING? AMPS 243+3=434

i would still increase. the reason i say that is because you can see that "in between" the bounces his low in the 6 cycles on this dose was last night's 99. Your goal is to get consistent nadirs in greens with overall numbers under 120. but of course, it's up to you.

i was digging around and found a post on bouncing and some related topics (feeding curves to help with bouncing) that i thought might be interesting to you. While you're considering increasing, take a look at these posts and see if they help any. Jill's last post in the condo below includes some related posts that also might be helpful. Tina might like to see them too, but she hasn't got a condo going today. If she doesn't post on yours today, would you share this link with her, too? http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=101989

Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE IF BOUNCING? AMPS 243+3=434

Thank you so much Julie. I will definitely let Tina know about this. I so appreciate all that you do and can't thank you enough.

Re: 5/26 Max INCREASE IF BOUNCING? AMPS 243+3=434

I think we may have found a food to help with the drops and lows without using karo. We bought some Trader Joe's chicken/turkey pate. It is 10% calories from carbs but it is not grain free and I think that's why it helps. I'd rather give Gracie this than karo. I don't know if it will help with Max but it might be worth a try. It has no gravy....it's just a pate.

I agree on the increase. When his bounces clear, if his nadirs aren't where you'd like to see them, then increase a bit. Sometimes it only takes a cycle or two to kickstart them.

Good luck with the increase. Come on Max!!!

Re: 5/26 Max AMPS 243+3=434+6=396

Thanks, Marje. I will pick up some of the trader joe's food to try. It will be interesting to see if he will eat it though. The list posted recently says diabetics need 250 phosphorus yet most of the foods are much higher. Is that true for all or just those that have high phosphorus or kidney disease do you know?

Re: 5/26 Max AMPS 243+3=434+6=396

Hi Elise,
Just stopping by to see how Max is doing today.
Good luck with the increase.

Re: 5/26 Max AMPS 243+3=434+6=396PMPS 354

Thanks, Mariko. I really think this insulin isn't good. Perhaps the nurse traveled with it and had it out of the fridge. If it is good something is really off with Max. I'll stop by my vet's office tomorrow to get a script. I guess I'll ask for one for pens and one for a vial and see if I have any luck using the coupon. If the coupon doesn't work I guess it doesn't matter which I get??? So up we go to 2.25 tonight.

Re: 5/26 Max AMPS 243+3=434+6=396PMPS 354

you may be able to find a pharmacy that will sell you one pen at a time. I found one that would, and they took the Lantus $25 coupon that was available at the time, so i paid $18 for one pen - it's been a couple of years, but it was a great deal then too.

if you get another pen, you can give a couple of shots from it and if the numbers stay the same, you know this insulin is ok and could go ahead and finish the insulin you have now. If the numbers drop, then that would tell you the insulin you have now might be weak.

I haven't heard that all diabetic cats need to watch phosphorus. punkin had the beginnings of kidney compromise and we went to less than 200mg phos food. He liked the Friskies Special Diet Turkey and Giblets and it was low carb and low phos. Diabetes can be hard on the kidneys when the blood sugar is high, so it makes some sense, but I don't know much about it.

Re: 5/26 Max AMPS 243+3=434+6=396PMPS 354

I got the coupon and it's now $25 which is way better than the $200 I paid for my vial. Does the pen last 45 days or more once opened? If so and I use it I guess I should finish it first and then the vial until Seotenber if it turns out the problem is Max and not the insulin. I'll have to buy some of the Friskies and see if Max will eat it. I didn't see it at the grocery store where I shop. Maybe I need to look at a pet store. Thanks, Julie.
