Hello all,

I did not get the messages about feeding tuna to him until this morning. Yes, the tuna does have vegetable broth and soy... crapiola... it is the only thing he will eat right now! I have not fed him lunch and he did not eat much food at breakfast ** AM Meal: 3 tbsp tuna + water & later I tried some skinless rotisserie chichen & a little Friskies Mariner's catch mixed together, he had to add tuna water to get him to eat it ** but he did not vomit this morning. He seems to feel ok this today and actually looks hungry. But I was going to try and go find an alternate food for him to try for lunch.

Re: 5/25 Tyler AMPS 136 +7 95 ** fed him tuna

definitely don't give more of that tuna - the vegetable broth typically contains onions and garlic, both aren't good for him.

is the pulverized dry food on top of his regular food helping to entice him at all? that often works.

he has been turning down the dry since yesterday. The only thing he wanted was tuna. I went and got some other foods on the list and I ended up getting, Weruva Mideast Feast, is one of the foods I bought and he really liked it. So I hope he likes the rest of the things

I bought Weruva: Mideast Feast, Polynesian BBQ, Outback Grill.
Merrick: Grammy's Pot Pie, Turducken, Surf & Turf Pate, Cowboy Cookout

Sure hope you find something he''ll eat and keep down Brian! It's important that he get enough nutrition or you could be looking at hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) that can come on very quickly in cats that won't eat.

Poor Tyler....it's no fun having a tummyache!

Sending lots of vines your way and hoping one of the new foods does the trick!

Edited to add...there's still some discussion on the new Merrick formulas too. They all used to be low carb, but they recently changed the formulas and last I read, some of them were too high now

Sending eating vines to Tyler.
I hope he likes the new foods and is eating today.
It so stressful when our cats don't eat!

if he stops eating, you want to give him anything he's willing to eat including dry food. anything (except the onions, garlic) - including high carb foods. cats can't go too long without eating without new problems coming up.

Let us know if he's not eating and you need more help. If our bundle of tricks don't work, you may need another vet visit.

eta - tuna in only water, or tuna in oil ought to be ok if he won't eat anything else. or maybe he'd go for a fish catfood - that would be even better.

Re: 5/25 Tyler AMPS 136 +7 95 PMPS 176 +5 63 got new foods

Well, the tuna in water is Starkist and does indeed say vegetable broth with Soy, so if that is bad, then I won't give it to him. I tried to get him to eat anything. Before I left for work, at 5, he wouldn't touch anything. I was late for work. I worried all night. I just got home and someone had eaten the two types of food down, so I guess he may have had something. I just fed some Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie (with 2 tspn water added) and he wouldn't touch it until I put some crushed up Temptation kitty treats on it... he then ate about half of it. Some is better than none. His high numbers were probably from eating dry kibble yesterday...

But all in all he ate a little and seems to be acting fine. He wanted pets as soon as I came home :)

behavior says a lot! i'm glad he is acting like he feels ok.

sometimes if you "prime the pump" by putting a little food into a cat's mouth that will encourage them.

some people make little "meatballs" of the food and that can make it tempting.

have you tried parmesan cheese or oregano?

Yeah for eating some of his fuds!!

I was looking at the Starkist website, and while some of the "packed in water" contains soybeans as well as garlic/onions, they have this on their website, so if it helps, look for these specific kinds (underlined below)

Vegetable broth is added to some StarKist Tuna products as a flavor enhancer. The broth must consist of two or more of the following: beans (including soybeans), cabbage, carrots, celery, garlic, onions, parsley, peas, potatoes, green or red bell peppers, spinach, or tomatoes.

If you have dietary restrictions or allergies to any of these ingredients, you might want to try StarKist Low Sodium Chunk Light or Very Low Sodium Chunk White Tuna in cans* (which contains only tuna and water). Also, StarKist Gourmet Choice® Solid Light Tuna Fillet, packed in water or olive oil, does not contain vegetable broth.

*Please note, StarKist Chunk Light Tuna, Low Sodium and StarKist Albacore Tuna, Low Sodium in pouches do contain vegetable broth.

One of my vets, Dr. Kris Dailey, who is also an animal nutritionist, says that you can feed a cat (1) sardine packed in spring water with no added salt, per day. The sardines are packed with OMEGA-3s which would be very healing to Tyler. She's not so big on feeding a cat fish, other than that type sardine.

I got Rocky to eat the sardine by cutting up one sardine into 4 pieces. I would then crumble/sprinkle the 1/4 portion over one of his mini-meals. It worked like a charm.

I only fed him the sardine when I wanted him to really eat something else. I just used it as a treat.
