Joyce here again, since Titus had a sleepover - well, not sure how much I slept given I was up testing

Titus did have a 36 last pm at +3.5. He hadn't eaten very well up to that time so not sure will the strange surroundings and not eating much it that was the cause - but none the less, we are taking the dosecrease. Now shooting a 0. Yes, I do believe there is at least 1 drop of insulin in that dose.

Titus will be going back to work with me - unfortunately the travel time today will be about his +3-4 - I hope he doesn't pull the usual antics of dropping then. Will test him before I leave.

All you LLers - have a great day.

Re: 5/24 Titus amps~73 - dose decrease to 0

After a bit of discussion, the consensus is that maybe it's time to see if Titus can keep these numbers during a trial! While I suspect Joyce knows what this involves, here are the instructions:
  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
Good luck!!

Hi SIenne, TItus did eat about 1/3 of a 3 oz can this am. I have just added another 1/4 can. Oh Boy, wait til I tell Penny about a OTJ trial..... Are we sure it is time?? It has only been two weeks! Certainly seems like Mr P is working and the Liver doesn't panic with the low numbers....but is it sustainable? YIKES!! Is it usual to have trepidation about starting a trial?? Gotta go buy some gum.......

Re: 5/24 Titus amps~73 - dose decrease to 0

From what I read, since Gabby hasn't decided it's her turn to try OTJ, it seems like there's trepidation!! There is more than just me looking at Titus' SS and giving a thumbs up for a trial. We won't know if it's sustainable until you give it a try.

(Remember -- no HC food. Ever. Please remind Titus that he's not allowed to eat donuts, waffles, pizza, or fried food. Steak and shrimp are allowed provided no sweet marinade!)

Penny here, we will check in the am & hope for the best. I've already had a talk with Titus about his diet & he agrees to be a good boy & not stray from it. Thankyou all for your continued support. Btw, all of your babies are absolutely precious. Love to know how to get a pic of big guy on board.

OUCH - not a great start for the OTJ trial. A 97?? One possible input is that he had multiple car rides today. That could have stressed him out - plus about 5 hours sitting at work..... Hope we see better numbers with him.

Meant to ask - what kind of feeding schedule do you find optimal? Titus was, while on insulin - getting 1 3 oz can in am and pm, 1/2 can mid cycle am and pm. Titus is 18 lbs and needs to lose weight. Any input on how to feed, when to feed, how much to feed would be appreciated. I am encouraging Penny to try to feed smaller more often. Titus has at least stopped eating the entire can at one sitting - he will now walk away and leave some for later. ?maybe it is time for a timed feeder. Has anyone bought local vs mail order?

I'd take a look at the section on obesity on Dr. Lisa's site. She has a formula for calculating calories there. It's not so much the can of food but how many calories are in the can.

I bought both of my feeders from Amazon. I did not have good luck with the 5 compartment feeder. Two of them died. The 2 compartment feeder works just fine. If I'm remembering, can't DS and DGF also feed? Their schedules are different than Penny's -- right? If it's possible, It might make sense to try feeding every 3 hours (preshot, +3, +6, and +9). I'd feed more at the earlier meals and leave a "snack" at +9.
