We're off to a good start today. I'd like to see some blue but as long as Cobb gets under 250, that's fine too. He was a hungry kitty last night. Well, I'm not really sure that's true. My best friend and her husband are in town and I'm really cognizant of how loud Cobb can be in the middle of the night. And I know food calms him down so every time I woke up and could hear Cobb, I fed him.

Related to yesterday, Tina, Matty did start yawning and got incredibly irritable after he ate and I noticed the hives. The yawning was concerning to the nurse because it could be symptomatic of him not getting enough oxygen. He had stopped by the time we got to the office and his o2 level was great when they checked it. It was definitely a scary situation. We are now armed with an epi-pen. One in my purse. One in the kitchen. And I'll be picking up some children's Benadryl this week!

food allergies are not fun. my youngest daughter has an epi-pen too. she swells around her mouth with kiwi, which is easy enough to avoid, but that was the final staw after reacting to a lot of food before that. she only tests allergic to oysters and tomatoes, even though she reacts to many other foods, but it turns out that she has an intestinal yeast infection and is now being treated for that. her doctor thinks she'll get less reactive to foods once that is healed. i sure hope so.

Cobb is trying to get below 250, it seems. he must've liked all those midnight snackies!

Good you got the epi-pen. I've actually never used mine but I there have been a few times when I know that I should have used it rather than suffering and taking a chance the Benedryl would help. My allergist also told ME to take the children's Benedryl when I am having a food allergy reax.. hehehe.. I like the Bubble Gum flavored one the best. :-D

Julie, yes, I do believe there is connection between a yeast build up in the gut and food allergies. When I was 35 the mother of the guy I was dating drove me to homeopathic specialist in Canada. It was way before everyone was taking probiotics for a bad stomach. The this doctor, and I don't remember his name, had done a lot of research on the diets of indigenous people and found that they have very few stomach disorders. One of the things is that their diets are different in the winter than in the summer. In the winter they eat foods that are cooked a little so that they are more easily digestible, so no raw food in the winter really. It's harder on the gut and takes more energy to break it down. However, in the summertime they at A LOT of raw foods as their bodies had the heat to be able to work harder.

The other thing was that the people he studied ate very little sugar, and they also did not mix foods, like eating meat with a fruit or a vegetable. I used to have, and I might still have it somewhere, a list of foods that should not be eaten together because they produce yeast in the gut. For example, if you have a piece of steak you cannot eat a vegetable for about 2 hours. You also cannot eat a fruit after eating a meat. All of this produces yeast in the gut. And of course, don't forget alcohol, bread, and pastas as big yeast producers!!

The doctor had me drinking 1 cup of warm water with 1/2 squeezed lemon, and 1/2 tsp cayenne first thing in the morning when I woke up. I then had to wait 1/2 hour after drinking that potion to drink his special blend of pr-obitoics. They were pure and in some type of water base so it was completely tasteless. After drinking that I had to wait another 1/2 before I could eat anything. I had to live like that for 6 months. I was feeling so horrible by the time I saw this doctor that I was willing to try anything. Surprisingly, it worked!!

I now think that I have eaten way too much sugar, drank too much wine, and mixed all kinds of foods together again to probably have another yeast infection in my gut, but I've never actually been tested for anything like that again.

I've been amazed at how quickly you have learned the ropes and been able to be flexible with Cobbs treatment. I admire your strength when I know how exhausted you must be with a diabetic cat and a baby.

I'm glad Matty is better and you have what you need in case he has another allergic rxn.
