Good morning cats and beans! Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=119190&p=1246456#p1246456

Today is Billie's second 1 unit dose after our dosecrease last night. She went down from 336 to 218 quickly in the first 2 hours, but after that, she went steadily into some high blue numbers over the next few hours.

I think my civvie, Brooklyn, is getting jealous of all the attention Billie is getting. Last night when we came out of the bathroom (our test spot), Brooklyn was outside the door waiting for us looking downright offended. I promised her that this is not a party she wants to be invited to!

I hope everyone is happy and healthy today! ~O)

Re: 5/24 Billie AMPS 276

i used to give anya treats every time i gave a post-poke treat to punkin. it didn't seem quite fair, but i figured it was easy enough to do and might keep her from getting jealous.

but you're right, it's not a poke party Brooklyn would want to go to!

fingers crossed the dose increase brings Billie down a bit. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Re: 5/24 Billie AMPS 276

Thanks Julie!! I have been giving Brooklyn treats too, so she's getting all the perks of this situation with none of the troubles! Enjoy your weekend too.

We're down at 188 for +2.5. It definitely looks like Billie has a pattern of initial fast drops! I know that's not how most cats do it. Is that safe? Why might it be happening? I have been encouraging her to eat a lot, but it happens whether she eats a smaller portion or stuffs her little face. She has had some "normal" +2 readings as well, but there are a lot of big drops, sometimes around 100 points which are probably causing bounces.

It takes a little for the depot to stabilize when you change doses. You might not see the full effect right away. I like that Billie's numbers are not so high to begin with.

Did you catch the diabetes early?

Ahhh, NDW (New Dose Wonkiness)! I know it well. Time to put on the patience pants and wait to see how Billie settles into this dose. If it helps, Cinco often has big drops like that (today from 254 to 169), and he's a long-term diabetic. Unfortunately, there is no manual for the kitties to read, and I don't think they would follow it if there was!

Hang in there, Deanna. You're doing great.

Re: 5/24 Billie AMPS 276 +2.5 188 +4 228

Thanks Tricia and Catherine!!

The patience pants are on! Billie definitely didn't read the manual  It does help to know that she's not the only cat out there with big early drops!

Catherine, I think/hope we did catch it early - that's what her vet said.

She had bloodwork last November that was all clear, then had some pre-dental bloodwork in April which came back with a bg of 250, but her vet thought it was just elevated from stress. She had 5 teeth pulled, and in the weeks after that, I started noticing an increase in appetite/food seeking behavior along with weight loss. She was trying to break into the garbage pail and jumping into the sink to lick dirty dishes, which she had never done before. I sometimes wonder if the stress/pain/meds accelerated her diabetes. She lost almost 2 lbs in just a month, from 10 lbs down to 8. Her vet was thinking hyperthyroid, but it turned out to be diabetes. She was diagnosed at the very beginning of May, and we tried a diet change alone for 2 weeks with no improvement.

Now, here we are! I am so happy to have found this forum and all of the wonderful people on it!!

Billie is definitely not the only cat with big early drops. You might want to look at Gabby's SS or Lucy's. Both like to nadir quite early in the cycle - well most of the time. Cat's don't like to be that predictable. If you find that Billie continues to have early drops, you might want to break her meals into something at PS, then a bit more at +1 and +2, maybe even +3. Spreading out the carbs a bit can help.

I have two cats following me to the testing spot. The civie usually is the first one there. No work and he gets a treat too. I tested him once so he could see what the fuss was, now he's willing to just hang out and wait.

Thank you Wendy! I will take a look at those spreadsheets. I am enjoying looking at other cats' spreadsheets and seeing their progress! I have been trying to get Billie to eat more often early in her cycle, sometimes with parmesan cheese as a bribe, and I'll keep that up. Enjoy your night!

PMPS 343! NDW is no joke!

Silver lining - maybe I don't have to worry about her going too low tonight?

Re: 5/24 Billie AMPS 276 +2.5 188 +4 228 +8 254 PMPS 343 +2

And there she goes again at +2! I think she's still high enough for you to get some rest.

I have found with my Gracie that fast drops cause a harder bounce than low numbers. That's why the feeding schedule Wendy suggested can help. You can learn to slow down those early drops and flatten out the cycle.

It's something we can work on :-D

Our civvie, Tobey, loves to come head but Gracie just as I'm trying to poke.
