Yesterday's Condo
Yesterday was a very wild ride! Even after getting a full panel of blood work and a urinalysis there was no sign of what could be causing the higher BG. And with as fast as he recovered last night I am going to say that it was almost definitely the probiotic that we tried the night before. Here is a recap of yesterday's numbers
5/22
AMPS - 252
+2 - 255
+3.5 - 229
+5 - 177
+7.25 - 333
+8.25 - 477
+9 - 510
+10.5 - 464 - at the vet
PMPS - 396 (increased to .5u)
+2 - 338
+4 - 210
+6 - 113
+7 - 92
+8 - 68
+8.75 - 84
+10 - 77
Yesterday afternoon and evening Sammy wasn't eating all that great, but because he was so high I felt comfortable increasing to .5u.
He didn't move all that much from PMPS to +2 so I figured the cycle would move sort of slowly, but then when he dropped over 100 points from +2 to +4 I thought differently. But, since he typically has an early nadir I he would start slowing down after that but then he pulled out the stops and dropped another 100 points by +6, that made a little nervous so I decided to get hourly readings after that. I was a little more comfortable when he had only dropped a few points at +7, and I assumed that he would pretty much surf from there. Then he had dropped a bit more at +8 and then I was worried. Because he still wasn't eating all that great, I did give him a little bit of a higher carb food in hopes to slow down the drops. And within 45 minutes he was a bit higher and I was a lot more comfortable. He had dropped down a bit more by +10, but at this point in his cycle I felt comfortable sleeping for a couple of hours before AMPS.
This morning he was still under 100 for AMPS, and because he still wasn't eating as well as I would like took the BCS dose and dropped back to the .25u dose. With as much as he dropped last night on the .5u I didn't want to take any chances especially since it had been a bit of a struggle to get him to eat in the last 12-18 hours. I know he wouldn't drop as fast when starting lower, but he really didn't have very far to go before going too low, so I just didn't want to take the chance. I hope I didn't make the wrong decision.
I hope he surfs just under 100 today, but I a sort of prepared for a bounce due to those FAST drops from last night. My big question of the day is will I need to bump back up to .5u tonight. I guess I will have to wait to see what today's cycle brings. I will see how low he goes on the .25u dose and also where he ends up at the end of this cycle. My guess is if he is anywhere near 100 I will stick with the .25u dose, but if he is much higher than 150 then I might consider the .5u.
Does anyone have any insights as to what you might do for the next dose?
