Good morning,

Yesterday's condo

Yesterday
AMPS=229 (f0.75u); +2=209; +8.5=205
PMPS=283 (f0.75u); +2=205; +4=203

Today
AMPS=196 (f0.75u); +2=254; +7.5=283
PMPS=326 (f0.75u); +2=265

Lucy is feeling better this morning than yesterday.
She woke me up and followed me to the kitchen.
She ate the 1st and 2nd breakfast fine.

I've decided to try giving 5mg prednisolone to her every other day instead of 2.5mg every day.
5mg every other day was how she was give pred for years, but I changed it to 2.5mg every day last year to see if it reduces the pred spike.
It spiked her BG anyway, but I kept the 2.5mg every day schedule because it was easier for me to manage her FD.
But I'm thinking hard and I think her IBD has gotten worse since this change, so maybe the concentration matters.
So... I'm trying the old 5mg every other day schedule again, to see if things improve.
It's been bothering me that the new pred schedule might not be working for her, so I'm just going to give the old schedule another try.

Sending vines to all in need.

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196

It is so hard to figure out what affects what when there are so many issues to juggle. Hopefully going back to the old pred schedule will help Lucy feel even better!

Have a great day, Mariko!

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196

OK, this may not work....
She had quite a bigger pred spike.....
I may just consider today a booster dose, and go back to 2.5mg every day.

Wow... I didn't expect this.
Too bad....

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196;+2=254

That's not too bad of a spike, and it is early in the cycle. I'd give it a little while to see if her body settles into it. You can also always adjust her insulin dose if you need to if the different pred schedule is better for her IBD.

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196;+2=254

I'm glad Lucy is feeling better today. Good luck with whatever you decide on her pred schedule.

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196;+2=254

It's great that Lucy was eager for her fuds and ate well. Sorry about the pred spike, but I agree that maybe you should give it a couple of days at least to see if she settles into it. Like Amy said, you can always adjust her insulin if needed, and helping her IBD is important, since it affects her appetite, which affects her FD.

Whatever you decided to do, Mariko, I wish you good luck.

I hope you get some time off this weekend to relax and maybe cuddle with Lucy!

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196;+2=254

Thank you, Amy & Tricia, for helping me figure this out.
And thank you, Carla, as always for your support.

Actually, I can't really adjust the insulin dose because this will happen every other day.
If I adjust the dose based on pred-cycles, she'd go too low on non-pred cycles... exactly the reason I changed to 2.5mg every day.

But you are right, maybe I'm deciding too quickly.
I'll give this another round.
So tomorrow, non-pred, Sunday 5mg pred., and then re-evaluate.....

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196;+2=254

Aww, I hope that a few more days will show you some good info so you can figure out the pred. It's so hard with all the juggling it sure gives the bean a headache! I'm glad she is doing well at the eating:) I hope your day is going well, Mariko. Happy Friday, TGIF!

Re: 5/23 Lucy AMPS=196;+2=254;+7.5=283

OK... I'm really not sure if this was such a good idea.
Her number just keeps going up.
This big spike is making her feel yucky too.....

I think I'm going to stick with 2.5mg every day, and discuss this with Lucy's regular vet next month.
The vet I'm seeing next week is not her regular vet, but we have another appointment with her regular vet next month.
I may just give it another round so I know for sure that it's the pred spiking her number, but I may not do it again if her PMPS is really ugly today.
I'll decide by Sunday morning.

Re: 5/23 Lucy PMPS=326

Her PMPS is pink. ohmygod_smile
She's not happy in pink, so I don't think going back to the old pred. schedule is going to help her.
5mg didn't used to spike her BG this much, so I guess she is just a different cat now.
And I took a closer look at her SS, and think she did pretty well on the new schedule last year, much better than how she's been this year.
So I think this is now and that was then, so I won't continue with this experiment.

I'm going to discuss with the vet about what options I have to reduce the inflammation, without increasing the pred. dose if possible.
