Smoky yesterday

Zener is doing fine this morning. His numbers are still high and we are ready to increase again if we don't see something better in the next 3 cycles. Appy is good, thanks to cypro. :-D He came in from the yard and jumped on Tillie a while ago. What a rascal!

OT: No, Zener wasn't smoky yesterday but the air sure was and it was disgusting! It's the Slide Fire south of us, just about 12 miles away now. Yesterday was tough but today is much better. :-D It seems a low pressure system has moved in a little sooner than expected, bringing calmer winds and some humidity in the air. The smoke plume is going west of us today so our air is mercifully clear. The firefighting is going better too. They built a fire line at forest road 535 and that seems to be holding. The winds are calmer so the air tankers can fly. We hear them occasionally. They have a DC-10 which can hold 12,000 gallons of retardant. And they said on the news that it can fly as low as 200' above the ground.   O.M.G. The communities that got pre-evacuation notices yesterday are still on pre-evacuation so good news for them. Some folks have already left and everyone has had plenty of time to pack up important stuff. We have packed up some stuff and have an idea of what else we will get. We spent some time raking up pine needles in the front yard this morning. I feel really dumb for not doing that sooner. Thank you for your concern and good wishes. :-D :-D :-D

I'm glad Zener is feeling fine - and spunky - today!

Sending tons of prayers that all of you stay safe. I hope the amazing fire fighters get things under control so no one has to evacuate....

Re: 5/22 Zener AMPS 385;+4 337

I'm glad to see an update and to know everyone is safe. I've got my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Re: 5/22 Zener AMPS 385;+4 337

How nice that the wind calmed and shifted a little so you get some clean air. Not only is it scary to have the fires so close, but all that smokey gray air gets depressing. I hope they get it contained soon and no one loses their home.

Zener, dosecreas threat has been issued! Time to knuckle down and head for the lagoon! You can do it, Z-man! (And take it easy on Tillie - she is a lady, you know!)

Re: 5/22 Zener AMPS 385;+4 337

I'm glad Zener is doing fine and has a good appy. That's good the fire situation is a little better and the smoke is away from your house. I hope you don't have to evacuate. Sending prayers.

Keep on sliding please Zener - I think I heard a threat being tossed about. Good to hear that Zener still feeling up to being feisty - poor Tillie.

Paws crossed for continued low winds in your area.

A much better PMPS Zener. I hope you have an all blue evening and night.

Re: 5/22 Zener AMPS 385;+4 337;PMPS 182

Zener has followed your directional instructions and been on an all day slide. :-D

Not much news on the fire, other than it is still growing and is 0% contained. The winds shifted slightly today so were not under the big plume of smoke. There are lots of updates going on from the incident team this evening, so we are just waiting to see the latest. The burned acreage was about 4500 this morning, and we saw one report of near 8000 acres this evening. We are not on any pre-evacuation orders yet, the neighborhood to the south of us by a few miles has been on pre-evac warning for 24 hours and many have evacuated voluntarily. So far, the trigger point for evacuation is holding, and the firefighters are doing a lot of back burns to take away fuel from the approaching fire. We have most of our stuff gathered up, and a "go box" for Zener and Tillie. Paws crossed we don't need to go. nailbite_smile

For anyone interested, this is the official incident website for the fire:

Hmmm, that +2.5 makes the PMPS test smell like a fluke...

Re: 5/22 Zener PMPS 182;+2.5 357

Z-man is feel ing good if he's jumping on Tille, hopefully a sign of things to come!

Glad to hear that the winds are changed in your favor. I hope it allow the firefighters to start gaining control of the fire.

Ooooof on the +2.5, we had a sneaky test like your preshot yesterday, I hate when a weird test raises your hopes only to go Nah-nah a couple of hours later!

I'm glad that you got the pine needles cleared up. John spent the day finishing the last of the grass off in the field.

Re: 5/22 Zener PMPS 182;+2.5 357

Whoa what happened to the slide, big man? He's had a couple of stressful days between not getting the chipmunk, then getting it  , then the fire.

Glad you all are ok and didn't have to evacuate. We had those huge fires several years ago and it was just black and smokey for a couple of months. Hope it all clears right away.
