Yesterday, not walking well :(

Yesterday recap:
AMPS: 88

+11: 81
PMPS: 106
+3.5: 108
+6: 94

Good morning, LL!
Ripley seems to be doing a little better with walking.
This is what I posted last night: Ripley is still walking stiffly and unbalanced. I can't really tell which limb is bothering her ~ I thought it was a front leg, but I just watched her walk and her back half seemed stiff and limited in mobility. She's eating off and on (like normal) and currently preening, which is good. Right after receiving her fluids (at+2) she fell over on the couch, and had a hard time getting back upright. She yowled and seemed distressed for a short time, but now is acting fine.

This morning her appy is good  .
I carried her to her LB and she peed  .

Last night, right before her midnight testing time, she managed to get from the couch to my bed, and slept the rest of the night with me. So she's moving around, just slowly and uncomfortably.
I'm wondering if it's arthritis, which is something new for us... if this keeps up, a vetty visit (maybe with x-rays?) may be in order...

Sending vines to all kitties and beans who need them today!

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113

Hi Josie and Ripley,

Ripley, I hope that your leg gets better and better as the day progresses. You have a great AMPS number. Rusty would like that number!

Josie, I think that if Ripley's leg problem persists you should make a vetty appointment. A holiday weekend is coming up and you don't want to get stuck!

Have a good day and give Ripley some scritches from us,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113

Hi guys .. pretty numbers for ripley! Sorry to hear she hasn't been walking that well .. sounds like a vetty visit might be a good idea .. have a great day guys!

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113

Hi Josie,
Poor baby, Ripley! I hope she starts feeling better soon. I would see the Vet if it persists and to ease your mind as if it is arthritis, there's a lot of help. Mags started having a limp on her front foot, and the Vet prescribed Dasuquin. It has helped her. But first is to get a diagnosis for Ripley. Sending her healing and calming vines and a good day in her rocker. Keep us posted.

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113

Hi Josie. Nice AMPS for Josie this morning. Glad she is doing better with walking but hope she continues to improve. If you do have to take her to the vet I hope he/she can diagnose the problem and get her started on a treatment regime.

Have a great day Josie.

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113, +9.5 107, arthritis question...

Hi, Mary, Ella, Devon, Ann, and John! Thanks for checking in and for your well-wishes! :-D

I just got home from work and Ripley seems to be FINE. She's still walking a little stiffly, but no falling, and she sat down sort of relatively-easily for her ear test.

I'm taking her in for a vetty appt. tomorrow afternoon to discuss possible arthritis, and hope x-ray(s) to diagnose or rule-out...
:?: Are there any specific questions I should ask the vet?
If it turns out she does have arthritis, possible medications will be discussed ~ is there a 'typical' med that's ok (or not ok) for FD/CKD kitties? I know to say no to Metacam...
I hope she doesn't have to be sedated for the x-rays ~ for the last x-ray she didn't need sedation (to check for constipation). I'm not sure how many x-rays are needed to check for arthritis.
I'm not hoping for arthritis, but I hope her pain/discomfort from last night can be easily explained (& treated!).

Thank you, LL :YMHUG:

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113, +9.5 107, arthritis question...

I'm glad Ripley seems to be doing better this evening. I hope it's nothing serious. Sending good vetty vines for tomorrow.

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113, +9.5 107, arthritis question...

Nice little numbers there today Ripley. I hope you are feeling better now.

My Buster (GA) had arthritis in lots of places (hocks, spondylosis/spine) as well as a bone chip in the back hip. I adopted him as a limper at age 12. The vet can feel a certain amount of bone thickening with a physical exam. From there, they can plan where to take X-rays. With my guy it was obvious front hocks were an issue. He could jump up fine, but was always cautious jumping down. Reluctance to jump up usually means the back. But they also found the bone chip in the back. I think it was 2-3 X-rays, no sedation. The spondylosis was found by accident when they were X-raying his heart at a different time.

My kitty was on glucosamine (Dasequin or Cosequin) and fish oil as supplements. For more relief he got monthly shots. In the US it's Adequan, in Canada is Cartrophen. The cartrophen really helped his mobility.

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113, +9.5 107, arthritis question...

The only thing I'd add is that Cosequin (which is a glucosamine and chondroiten combination) is available over the counter. You can order on Amazon or through Entirely Pets or where it's cheapest. You want the white box -- that's the kitty version.

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113, +9.5 107, +11 83

Hi, Carla, Wendy, and Sienne :-D :-D :-D

Thanks so much for the input. You guys rock :thumbup

Ripley was outside basking this afternoon, and I went to join her for some scritch time. I noticed LOTS of bees flying around the grass ~ I started to wonder if she were ever to get stung by a bee, if it would result in limping/leg pain? Hmmm... food for thought...

Re: 5/22 Ripley AMPS 113, +9.5 107, +11 83, PMPS 118

Hmmmm... that +11 may have been a wonky test.

I'd say Rippo is back to her normal self.
Eating her dinner happily.
Still keeping the appt. tomorrow, though. Wouldn't hurt to see if there's any arthritis lurking...

Just got back from a mtg at work (ran an hour late  ), gave Rippo her fluids, and her 2nd dinner. Eating like a champ.
Mobility is almost normal, too.
Good girl, Ripples. Maybe I can get a good night's sleep w/o worrying 'bout you.
Love you, girly girl.
