When I am looking around, and see your Pearl thread, I'm always curious. You were already knowledgeable about Cat health, and you learned quickly about FD. I was also praying for Chessie along the way. I believe Tina's FD may have resulted from prednisolone, and she was eating a high carb kidney diet for about 3 months (caused some muscle wasting). Weruva is my savior (haven't tried raw in 3-4 yrs; at that time, only 3 of my 6 would touch it.)
Hi Jan! How are you doing? I haven't posted much lately. I've had work-life-balance dramas and it's messed up my schedule for my own health. Thank you for your note! I have been wondering this about Pearl - so, it's likely she got the FD from the Prednisolone. But now she gets it so infrequently - maybe once every 4-6 days, and it hardly seems to affect her when she does get it - but yet she is still a diabetic. So I don't know now if it was only from the Pred.
With your expertise, if anyone could go OTJ while needing Pred, I think you are one to do it for Pearl. I hope and pray for OTJ for all, because my short 5 months giving insulin and getting up during the night, did hurt my health. But being a long term diabetic myself, I "understood" (I thought, lol) and was excited to " save" Tina! Thankfully I recovered! And my girl is fine, besides dealing with other age related things.
It's great that little Pearl is under 2 units.
THANK YOU for this encouragement!! I really needed to hear it today. I know you know this road is HARD when you have your own medical issues to contend with also, and truly I want the best for my girl and that is to be FD-free if possible. It was really easy for me to learn FD with the help of you,
@Wendy&Neko and
@Marje and Gracie. It came naturally to me. I am trying to figure out how I learned it so quickly so I can help other people who seem to get "stuck". I can't believe Pearl is under 2 Units!! Thank you for noticing! I was waiting to mention anything until we get a couple more reductions under our belt - hard for me to believe we are really under the 2. I don't want to jinx, lol!
What I am most grateful for is the Pearl seems to be scaling down without going under 50 a lot. She just stays "normal" for so long I have to try to reduce. I really love that and appreciate that so much. Maybe she will just walk her way straight out of FD.
You know what I have noticed that is curious? - as she gets lower in her dose, the time of day I give the Pred affects her differently. For example, if I give it PM cycle, her BG goes up a lot higher (still same temporary duration) than if I give it during AM cycle, in general. No idea why that is. But it's interesting!
AND...thank you for the prayers for Chessie, too! She is pretty stable now and loving being a part of a family. She adores Pearl to the moon and back, literally. Instead of hiding in my bed all day, she now spends her day with Pearl in the living room, sleeping in all the places Pearl has just slept in lol! I still have some uncertainties with aspects of her health, but am trying to observe and make mental notes so I can tell over time what is "normal" for her and what isn't!
