Good Morning LL!, and Happy Caturday!

Yesterday's Condo

my oh my, and where are these numbers coming from.... a 420 AMPS :YMSIGH: , and a repeat of yesterday afternoon/evening. I can only hope for better as the day goes on.

WCR: One would not know that he has been in the 400's - been no change in those parts of the 5 p's. Active, alert, playful, purrs non stop. Woke up this AM to find him camped out in his catnip stash... rolling in it, preening as he rolled. What a life!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420

Hi Michelle, I think it's time for you to replace your meter!!! Head out to Walmart and get a Relion. The Ultima only costs $9. and the strips are $39 for 100 strips. Mannie is feeling great, so either the high numbers don't affect him, or his numbers are much lower than what your meter and strips tell you. Only one way to find out!!
Ella

Hey Mannie, my pal! You're freaking out your mamabean. Bring those numbers down!!! Take some time today to scout out the flowers outside. We have to be lookin' good for all those lady kitties at the Full Flower Moon party!

Stu

P.S. Have a nice walk to the shore, Michelle. I lived in Seattle for a couple of years in the early 1960s and well remember the beautiful Washington coast.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420

Hi Ella! I think you may be right. At least then I will know for sure... A small price to pay for accurate readings! and yes - he feels great.

an ex-seattleite huh. :-D I am fortunate enough to live a couple miles from local shore access - it is a 2 mile walk/hike to the shoreline here, a local county park, with a short trail, etc., views of the san juans and the olympics, just very nice.
Michelle

Hey Stu - what's up man? I'm trying, truly!! I don't really like these numbers, so will work very hard today to get better ones. you working on that recipe we talked about at the party at your place last week? My flowers were looking good yesterday, but we had such rains last night that i hope they are still standing. I may have to launch a rescue mission today. Later dude!
Mannie

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420

Hi Lisa! He's trying! BG# has been so ugly for the past day - hoping for better today.

+2 @ 347. better. com'on Mannie - find that blue surfboard that you like so well.....

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +2 347

Hi Michelle, I'm sharing your frustration here. Tess is getting better numbers, but just barely. We use the same meter and found that you really have to make sure the strip is securely pushed in. I'd love to think that the lousy numbers are the meter though. :?

I've been whacked in the evenings this week, and have missed out on a lot of the discussions, and Tess has been telling me to get off the computer so she can have a decent lap to sleep in. Or maybe I was just in a funk about the numbers. I'll catch up tonight.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +2 347

Hi Michelle and Mannie, sorry about the high numbers today!!! We use the relion and love it, very easy to use and strips are cheap! Hope you have a great weekend, glad to hear Mannie's wcr is good!!!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, experiment

Hi Ann, and Michelle too! and thanks for letting me vent... and I can relate about the being whacked in the evening... by then i'm a goner...

ok - 146 @ +5.5 -- a 200 point drop in 3, 3.5 hours. better. but wow - cliff diving and bungee cords and trampolines all rolled into the past 24 hours. seems the boy found the hidden contraband. :?

i also did an experiment, sort of. I do have a back up meter, an ultra one-touch, really nice meter, but expensive test strips. anyways - tested Mannie at +5.5 with both meters. amazing alone that i got enough blood on one poke to do two tests. YAY on that one. bottom line: current meter at 146, the one-touch @ 169. so...... considering variances between meters, i am guessing that these ugly numbers are not a meter screw up, that the current meter is working ok, that Mannie has had just really nasty numbers.

so considering that, what is up with my hero? the only other variance in diet, routine, etc is the addition of plaque-off to his diet to control tartar buildup. He did receive that yesterday and two days (i think??) prior. This morning I did not add it too his food. so - will go for a few and see, maybe try it again in a couple of days, and see if his numbers go berserk again. anybody use plaque-off, or had any issues with it? Ingredients listed are seaweed, and seaweed only... :?

and last but not least... neosporin with pain control. i read a while back not to use the ointment version, but use the cream. so - about two weeks ago I put away the ointment, brought on the cream. It was also about this time that I started having issues with blood draws and getting the meter to have adequate capillary action. the cream has changed the condition of his skin/fur - more rough, not as smooth. so in part two of my experiment, I went back to the ointment last night, and have not had one capillary action problem since. correlation?: i dunno... so - opinion anyone on that? is ointment really a no-no?

and done - now that I have written a novel..... and @-)

Happy caturday everyone - elated at the moment that we are at 146, hope beyond all hope that he stays there!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, experiment

Hi again, Michelle, So glad Mannie decided to come down from that clif! I use Neosporin creme, but not before I stick Stu's ear: I use it only once a day, in the evening, after the last stick of the day, just to help the ear heal. I use plain old Vaseline on his ear before I stick it with the lancet. I assume from what you wrote that you used Neosporin ointment before sticking the ear and had switched to Neosporin creme. Neosporin ointment has the same consistency as Vaseline and would help the blood drop to well up, just like Vaseline does. The Neosporin creme wouldn't do anything to help with the blood drop. It's a good thing you stopped using it for that!
Now that we've got that all straightened out, I hope that you have a great weekend and that the rain stops so that Mannie can pick his flowers for the party.
Ella

P.S. I remember Pacific Northwest rain very well. I was at the Univ. of Washington for 2 years, living on $100 a month. My only mode of transportation was a $5 bicycle I bought second-hand, because I couldn't afford to ride the bus. It RAINED all the time, and never harder than when I came out of a building and had to get on my bike! But Seattle was an interesting place in the early '60s. Lots of neat little coffee houses where you could sit and study all day over 1 cup of coffee (and I never encountered a Starbucks!)

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, experiment

I've never heard anyone mention an issue with the Neosporin ointment. I would think the ointment is more a vasoline base which is fine.

What I do suspect, though, is the sharp drops are a set up for more bouncing. How are you feeding Mannie? I'm wondering if spreading out his meals over the earlier part of the cycle will offset some of the really big drops. It may be that if you see a 100 point drop, you need to start manipulating the curve with food to flatten the curve.

What Jill has me doing with Gabby is attempting to keep her in lower numbers without earning a decrease to help her liver calm down and get used to lower numbers as well as drop the overall level. The tricky part is your schedule but it looks like you are able to get tests in most days. Let me know if you want more info.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, experiment

Nice +6 Mannie :-D

Like what Ella just said. I use the Neosporin cream with pain relief, but only when I'm done testing for awhile, like right before I go to work or before bedtime. I usually only apply it about every 2 or 3 days.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, experiment

Hi Michelle....boy, that was quite a drop! As Sienne said, food can manipulate the numbers a lot and maybe you feel up to another experiment...LOL....think about it. Keep in these nice numbers Mannie!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, +9 114

Hi All, And thanks to all of you for pitching in with answers...

and HOORAH! 114 @ +9 and here we sit once again with a significant drop, and the inevitable when-will-it-show bounce....

I should have clarified more on the neosporin thing - I only apply this after test, not before. I just wondered if there was a reason for the cream, etc. Anyways - understand the principal, and the ointment thing with the beading up of the blood drop, etc. It was nice to read what everyone does. anyways - back to the Vaseline and the intermittent use of neosporin. Thanks everyone!

And thanks Sienne on the food aspect of things. I am certain you are right - that these large drops are a setup for his rather large bounces. I do feed when i see a 100 point drop. I will PM you on this as I would be interested on how you do the food thing with Gabby. I would like to control Mannie's bounces more.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +6 146, +9 114, PMPS 144

YAY!!! PMPS @ 144. cat_pet_icon

Ok Mannie ride the waves - and keep on surfin' this lovely blue! And now to get those bounces in line. Thank you Sienne for your help on that one... as we know Mannie is a bouncer, and I would dearly love to get them in line, or at least try too.

Happy Saturday night to everyone!!!!!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +9 114, PMPS 144, +2 129

Nice numbers this evening. Tess had about the same number for PMPS, but I have to wait another whole hour for +2. cat(2)_steam (I'm impatient tonight and want to see a number sooner than +3) I hope they both stay down.

Glad you solved your testing problem. Chiming in late, I've never heard any cream vs. ointment arguments. I use the ointment once or twice a week w/ a little Vitamin E oil to prevent scarring. The fur on Tess's ears is very fine and thin though.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +9 114, PMPS 144, +2 129, +3 90

Hi Ann -

and chime in anytime! I've just decided to go back to the ointment - it seems to work better for him. I had not thought of the vitamin E oil for scarring issues. that is great - i think i will have to give that a shot too.

I can so relate to the cat(2)_steam part... I by nature am the same way. Can't help myself. :-D

Mannie's had a great night - as is Tess. He continues to drop, so looks like I will be busy for awhile.

90 @ + 3  is back! YAY on that too.

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +9 114, PMPS 144, +2 129, +3 90

Very Nice blue day!! Just wanted to say I also use neosporin with pain, & also change off to Vaseline too--Neosporin had the pain relief in a nice cream, which is nice for the kitties too, not always having greased piggy ears   -For me, I dont want Moonie to hurt either!!
I didnt realize how long you are here till I read your profile tonite!!-Mannie is sure a gorgeous boy & you are a good friend here for the DPS!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420, +9 114, PMPS 144, +2 129, +3 90, +4 78

I'm with you on the neo, and the vaseline. Wish I'd stayed there... LOL!

Yep, been a bit. And I sure hope so on the DPS thing. paws crossed!

Wow, Michelle! Look at Mannie! Are you sure that's Mannie?? Are you going to stay up and watch his show??

Ella

Hey Mannie! I dig what you're doing, man! I'd say, let's have a race, but I don't think my mamabean wants to stay up late! Looks like you'll win!!!

Lovely numbers for Mr Mannie!!!

When Chloe comes to visit, it looks like she and Mannie will keep you verra busy!

Re: 5/22 Mannie AMPS 420,PMPS 144, +2 129, +3 90, +4 78, +5.5 78

WOOT! A 78 @ +5.5 surf Mannie surf!!!

Hey Chris - YAY!!! this sure beats what was going on yesterday. And no doubt I will be verra busy when camp Mannie opens on 6/11 :-D It will be Chloe and Mannie week - so looking forward to it. I really do believe that we will be just fine! LOL: Mannie and all his buddies in LL are planning one of "those parties" for Chloe so that she will feel right at home.

and Stu: my man! It's a race dude - you are ON! Though my bean is really tired too and I think the show for her is over. bummer huh! I figure that we have a couple of good hours left in us, don't ya think? practice ya know - for the night of the Full FLower Moon party. Get down! Later man - I need to catch some ZZZZZzzzz's. ~~ Mannie

Hey Ella! No, I am not too sure that this is the same kitty that kept posting 420's yesterday, My goodness!! I keep looking at his SS - I think it, the 420-440, were a really nasty nasty bounce from the good things that were going on a couple of days before. I dunno - just no other explanation. I really need to find a way to control these horrific bounces of his. Had a suggestion from Sienne, as Gabby has a tendency to bounce like Mannie does. Food for thought. I hope Stu doeS not keep you up all night. Mannie seems to have leveled out, so think i will leave some food for him, call it a night, and hope it is a good decision!
