Today is a good day---so far---in my house.

Alex had a beautiful 2 cycles yesterday for bid dosing and Jackson had 2 bm's in a 24 hour period :-D WOW (unjinx unjinx)
I started Alex on 3.65 dose this morning...I can't quite bring myself to go all the way to 3.75 yet...not after yesterday. Even though I know his nadir will be a pretty green on 3.75, I also know he will bounce hard and I just want to see if it's possible that by adjusting his dose in smaller increments maybe his body will do the same thing with the Lev but by the time he gets to 3.75 he won't bounce so hard because he'll be used to an increase already(if that makes sense).

So I got two happy little guys today who just both ate their chicken FF with chicken dust (much to my surprise), cause lately they have been turning up their little pink noses at FF in general as anything other than snack food ohmygod_smile (I have spoiled them rotten) Now their FOC is Earthbound..especially Jackson. Each can is 2.5 carbs and they LOVE it. Unfortunately 3 out of 4 are fish flavors but at this point I'm really not concerning myself with that(I alternate anyway..chicken every other day)

Alex's p's are all in order and A&J are taking a morning snooze. Have a nice relaxing Sunday everyone.

May peace find you MJ and Linda......my thoughts are with you both

yesterday

so much for Alex's dose increase.....back to 3.5 pronto! :?
bah! i was hoping he'd be able to hang onto the higher dose!
i can't remember what kind of feeding schedule you have him on. his profile says 2 meals a day, but if you're like most of us (including me) the profile isn't always up-to-date. the reason why i'm asking is a subject we've probably visited at some point... front loading the cycle before nadir in order to slow the drop down.

if i feed my alex a small portion before nadir she won't drop as low. this allows me to maintain a higher dose which in turn helps to flatten her out by having enough insulin on board for the rest of the cycle.

until we figure out a different feeding schedule, going back to 3.5u is the safest thing to do...

Yikes Alex!!!! Good luck with the reduction!!

Glad your day started out so great...I enjoyed your WCR and glad Jackson is all set for the day after having delivered his LB prezzies

I split his breffis in two portions....
give him a half of a small can with his insulin and then another about 2 hours later.
Then he gets lunch at my lunchtime which is about three hours later.

Then a snack about 3 hours later then dinner at shot time. I sometimes splir his dinner but not normally because I get out of work late and he doesn't usually have this problem at night...I have no idea why not though :?

I love your idea of two meals a day! :-D That's my kind of diet.

Alex is one sensitive kitty.

this is my understanding:

amps - 1/2 can
+2 - 1/2 can
+5 - 1/2 can (?)
+8 - snack
pmps - split a can sometimes, but usually a full can

correct me if i'm wrong... when you're done dealing with alex's low number (again).

edited to add: and yesterday you mentioned his nadirs are consistent... between +5 and +7.

We aren't talking about nadir for today....

Yes amps 1/2 little can
+2 1/2 little can....

+5...Real turkey breast...a small plate. when not available(I can't remember when that happened last 1/2 small can)
+8 probably less than 1/2 small can

PMPS-yes they split a large can but not the whole thing..usually about 3/4 of the can (the reason I do this is because Jackson can't eat as much as Alex and Alex will consume what Jackson leaves over also so I only feed what Jackson can eat) and a little alpine lace white american cheese cause they both like it as an appetizer.
+2.5 or +3 they split the rest of the can

+5..a before bedtime snack..usually about 1/4 small can Alex has gone from 9 lbs in January to 12.5 lbs as of the end of March!!!!!

Re: 5/22 Alex AMPS 189,+4-37!

ok, how about trying something like this instead:

amps - 1/2 can
+2 - 1/2 can
+5 - 1/2 can
+8 - turkey breast
pmps - continue doing what you're doing now for the PM cycle if it works. otherwise duplicate the AM feeding schedule.

initially, changing the feeding schedule cause him to ride a little bit higher and flatter, but that's ok. it'll allow you to bring the dose back up. bringing the dose back up will give you more insulin on board... which *should* help keep him flatter, but in a lower range.

this feeding schedule is simply a starting point. it may (probably will) need tweaking as time goes on.

if you want him to lose weight... slightly shave these amounts. weight loss should always be a gradual process.

Sounds good to me Jill..I'll start tomorrow. Thanks
No, I like him chubby! He's a very long kitty. At 9 pounds he was so bony that every time he flopped down on the wood floor I thought he would break a hip. Now no bones stick ot. And he's happy. I love that he has a belly. I'll take a little bit chubby and happy over skinny and sick any day

I wonder what kind of bounce this day is gonna produce nailbite_smile

Re: 5/22 Alex AMPS 189,+4-37,+4.5-54,+7-38.+7.5-83

yep, we know he'll bounce. follow libby's advice about hittin' him with R at the start of the bounce.... just a little damage control.

I will certainly try..he's at 83 now....I'm gonna take a nap for an hour and see if he's up to 400 by then

Hi Caryl - I just want to stop in and thank you for visiting Mannie today. Looks like you have indeed been busy with Alex today. WOW on the 37. Good luck with the dosecrease! I hope it works for him and that he can hold on to it. I hope too that you can get things worked out with food. Good luck with everything!

Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts, Caryl. I hope that tweaking the food plan helps with your drama kitty. I'm with you. I love a kitty with a good appy, even if it means there is a bit of extra tummy to love.

I visit him more than you know...I just can't post that often !!! (If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there does it make any noise)?
Today was unusual as when I got to the nursing home my mom sent me and my brother away after 30 minutes cause she really wasn't in the mood for us to be there....so I basically spent most of the day on and off the boards...I haven't had that luxury in quite some time. But like I said..I read. I'm like Big Brother

Thank you...I'm sure things will work out for Alex. If there is one huge thing I've learned from the "diabetes experience" aside from the fact that Alex and I are a great team...it's that Alex himself is an amazing creature. I never knew that before. He has handled this journey so far, so much better than I ever would have expected him too. Everything that has come up, and there has been a lot, he has handled with grace and dignity and he has come out for the better so far in every way. He has been my rock..my hero. If he has handled all that he has so far...what's a little food issue?....small potatoes..that's what

Thanks Michelle...we shall return and we're watching when you least expect it(so don't talk about us)

Hi Linda,
Bear was one of my favorite kitties...when I read about Emily my heart broke for you. I have tons on my plate now but I don't ever forget about the people and the kitties that were kind to me and Alex when we were so new and scared. You were one of them. Enough of that ...xo

Oh yeah..I have two with big bellies now. I never thought I'd see it on Alex again. After his one time stint with scrawnyness(sp)...I don't ever want to see it again. He broke my heart when he was skinny and sick. I'm all for the big bellies too. More cat to love ...nothing wrong with that
