Just an update for the day; Jack was 304 at his +3PM shot last night, I never woke up to see if he if he hit the 200's overnight. I'll be at work all day today, and not able to test until his PM shot. I am happy that despite the almost 400 he has this AM, his ketones are down to 0.4 I was too tired last night to try to do fluids by myself and he is non-symptomatic so I figured we could both have a break. I gave him 4 units of glargine again today, and hopefully he will see some 200's in the next day or so.

I posted again last night to update what I got back from the vet clinic, but Wendy&Necko's comment there seems right on. Here is the vet clinic response, since I said I would post in today's thread:
"Dr. does not want you to do the lactated ringers all the time because the electrolytes can be transformed into sugar which is a problem with Jack being diabetic. However, since there are still ketones and the need for continued fluids, she recommends alternating between the lactated ringers and the sodium chloride. Next time you come in for fluids, we will dispense the ringers."

Have a good day all, and thanks for your continued support- it really does mean the world!

As Bhooma said, unless you see blues, you are good for an increase to 4.5 units. Note to any lurkers, Christine and Jack's situation is unique and this suggestion is just for him. He is playing catch up to his previous dose and has ketones present.

I won't be home to monitor tomorrow or Monday, so increase has to wait until Tuesday unfortunately. But thanks for dose advice.

I had the same response to LRS as Wendy. My vet internist never suggested saline. I would worry about sodium rising in the blood too.

Ok, I am getting LRS from the vet next week, and that should last me at least 2 weeks. I will hopefully not need them past that, but will ask for the LRS again if I do. Thanks for your input!

Will you not be able to get even one test mid-cycle? Not sure you want to leave him in higher numbers for another couple of days - especially with ketones in the picture. He isn't dropping below 270 on this dose.

Unfortunately not. I could probably get a +1 but then I drive an hour to work, am on location all day, and then drive an hour home. My current schedule is awful.
