Kris -

Do you happen to know the ingredients of the methimazole? You noted that you switched from tablets to a liquid. I wonder if there's some form of sugar in the liquid. Can you call the pharmacy or your vet and find out what's in it? Vets will sometimes dismiss the sugar content as minimal but it can have a huge effect on a cat who's used to a LC diet.

Great point Sienne...
Uh...you asked for experienced eyes but I stopped by anyway... LOL
Just wanted to say hi and send some hugs to youz... :YMHUG:

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

That's an excellent thought, but I should have noted (and just now did) that I didn't start the liquid methimazole until just after her PM shot, so yesterday's daytime numbers were prior to the liquid med - but I'm calling the pharmacy anyway. Thanks!

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

This rebound is going to clear Kris. And when it does, you can try to soften the drop with a bit of medium carb food if you have any. ( If not, you can mix hc and lc to make some)
Often it's how FAST they drop rather than just how low. Sometimes the liver kicks in with an initial rise and those stress hormones will drag the rebound on for a longer time. But when they clear you can have another fast drop. So keep an eye out for it.

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

will the fast drops abate as her liver gets acclimated? or will she rebound whenever she has a rapid drop?

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

very good question. I think fast drop whenever says panic. as they say, it is not the lower number per say, but how you got there. like jumpin off a bridge to get to the river (panic) or walking down the path (smoooooth). you will get there both ways but one is a hell of a lot scarier. if ya jump you will more than likely sh** yourself. walk down the path, clean undies

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

okay. That's what I was afraid was going to happen. I'm glad you caught it!!
You can keep the 0.25 on the next dose if you want - cause she's gonna bounce hard from that.
But that's a dose reduction signal.

How are your microdosing skills? do you have a magnifying glass - they seriously help.
tip: I always find it easier to fatten up a zero than to skinny up a 0.25 -- you end up in the 0.15ish range either way, but that works better for me.
getting the dose consistent is the key on these tiny doses.

(((Kris))) I know this is all so overwhelming... and I just saw on the health board that her renal values aren't good (but they are improved)so i know you're dealing with multiple issues. Hang in there. I wish I could make this easier.

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

i'll have to quit my job. Janie needs a full-time staff!!

Anybody got a winning lottery ticket?

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

you will be fine. in janies case the +1 is very important right now cause we see how sensitive she is to insulin and you can ward off this huuuuuuuuuuuuge drop. back to the bridge: like jumping with one of those bungee cord (liver) thingies. you drop real low and you bounce real high, ya drop again but not quite as low and bounce not quite as high. eventually the bungee (liver) does not drop so low and boucnce so high and next thing you know, you stop bouncing, BUT::::::::::::::: you have to get those +1 on her. so as others said, shoot the .25 to get you through the bounce and then try and go halfway between the 0 and the .25. might be 1 dose or 2. have not checked ss. been working in yard and boyz are in katwalk

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

Dropping in to give support.
+1 and +2 would be good. Might see onset then. Obviously it is before +3.
You guys going for 0.1u?
I have a SS I need to go find -- first have to remember kitty's name.

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

this is not just about an early onset though - and it's not neccesarily how things will work later on...
Don't worry Kris things will settle down (at least somewhat)
She is obviously very sensitive to insulin but this is also a case of rebound breaking - she was likely already dropping like a rock when you shot and if you got onset on top of that it just bottomed her out.

Re: 5.20 Jane AMPS 409 -- could use some experienced eyes

Yes! Cyrano, D!

He went OTJ around the same time I got to FDMB.
Jojo directed me straight to his profile - so I could see that Doodle wasn't the only crazy sensitive cat on the planet!

Tonight, she was 360 PS, and i shot 0.15 scruff. fed her then, and at +1, she 239, so i fed high carb. At +2, she's 118, so more Friskies junk food. She's worshipping me now, but criminy - how do i head off these bungee jumps and get a smooth curve for her??

Jeez!!
normally you don't do 2 dose reductions back to back - because this may still be some leftover shed action from the previous dose(s) - and she may yet spike back up there, and hang out for a while.
But honestly I'm tempted to suggest going back to the 0.1 and let her calm down -- I'm curious what the others think though.
Of course it's ultimately your call.

Hope you guys get some sleep

to be honest, I have no clue. she is doing things she should not be doing. guess I would wait and see what AM number is first. she had over 100pt drop in each +1 and 2. if bounce, I would stick with the .15 cause kris will be home for +1-3 and that is when this girls needs HC. if all goes well, then I would drop down to .1. she confuses me. pancreas sputtering or too much insulin. guess will let AM numbers decide?????
