Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105

It's AMPS +.5, so after having considered Gus' response to 5U last nite, I'm going to give 3.5U to him this AM and see how he does.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105

Morning Bev and Gus! I am just catching up on condos and read yesterday's condo. You did a great job with the guidance of Sienne and Libby and and the others; I don't want to miss anyone as everyone is so supportive any time you need help! It's a great AMPS, too, so another exciting day. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105

Good morning, Bev, nice hooting! This is the lowest you have ever shot, please start out with a +1 and +2. Since you had a big drop from +10 to +11, you might want to get a +0.5....but certainly by +1, ok?

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105

I'm glad I checked back in to see if there were any updates here. I'm glad because I was only going to do +2, but after reading your instructions, Laurie, I can see now why the +1 is so important. Will post right after the +1. Thank you, weird to say but, "I'm new at this" And I have to add that I'm feeling really optimistic with this turn of events.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105

I'm glad you checked back in, Bev. Gus is looking AWESOME! You should be optomistic! :-D

You've done a great job learning to use R and handling the high numbers....I'm sure you will do just as well with the lower ones! It's important to get the early (and late) cycle data so you know how Gus will react to shooting low. The +1 will give you an idea of how much of a food spike Gus gets (or doesn't get) and the +2 usually gives you an idea of how active the cycle will be...if it is lower than the AMPS, you likely will be busy. If he's heading down on both +1 and +2, it gives you time to intervene before insulin onset takes him too low. That's a general overview....but you need data to see Gus' patterns.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280

Hi Bev and Gus,

I missed all the excitement yesterday...damn work! I just wanted to say how great it is to see Gus' numbers so low (with a slight twinge of jealousy in my typing  ). You did a great job yesterday handling his low numbers. Looks like you will be an expert at this in no time. It's amazing how something like a dental can have such a huge impact! Keep up the good work!

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247

I'm pleased with this, considering the small amount of insulin he got this AM. Interested to see where Gus will go today. Thanks Laurie. Anything you can teach me about these #s? If the +3 is > +2, should I R the bounce?

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247

I would see what happens. I would not assume he is bouncing yet. The higher +1 is most likely partly food spike, and partly insulin (last night's dose) wearing off. The lower +2 may be just the food spike wearing off, or it could be the start of onset too. He's heading in the right direction!

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247

Good morning Bev and Gus! Looks like you have had an exciting last 24 hours or so. Gus is looking so lovely! Hope you have a great day!

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247

You are doing great so far! learning a whole new set of numbers, it's like starting over again.

keep it up!

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247/+3=208

Looking like a normal curve, so far. My feeling is to leave Gus' ears alone until +6 unless told otherwise. Thanks Laurie

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247/+3=208

Hi guys and wow! Look at that start to the day! Great job on shooting these numbers .. And I'm also happy to see gus coming back down at +3 .. have a great day guys!

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247/+3=208

i've got amps envy too! wow, gus is looking awesome today. have a wonderful day, bev! you both deserve it after the last little while you've had.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+2=247/+3=208

How funny that our boys are doing this at the same time. :-D I just posted in Champ's condo "WHAT??" because his +1 is so much higher than his AMPS. I'm going to check his +2 to see how things are shaping up. I'm just as happy to see Gus having these great numbers as I am seeing them in Champ!!!

Keep up the good work and have a terrific day! :-D

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297

So, he's changed the direction. I haven't used R since Gus' dental. Do you think that his response values will be the same now? If so, I think R.10 would be a good next step.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297 ????

Bev, I have no R experience. I think it is an unknown if he will be more responsive to the R. I would test often if you do use the R. I see that you usually use 0.25u....I haven't been in the loop too much, what is your R scale?

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297 ????

Bev, could you update your SS if you have a minute? Thanks!

Hang on, I asked for some more eyes for the R question.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297 ????

Just a quick pop in to say WHAT AN AWESOME SS Gus has!!! You're doing great with him, Bev!!!! I so admire how well you've done using the R. Good luck today with whatever you decide.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297 ????

It's ok....just trying to make it easier if someone needs to get up to speed quickly, and doesn't have time to read through the thread.

I'm going to have to leave, unfortunately! I wish I could stay, but DD has a doctor's appointment.

If no one can give you guidance, I would suggest getting another test and see where he's at, then make a decision on the R. If he is zooming up, then I would say that shooting R would be a good idea. I wish I could help on dose....sorry!

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297 ????

0.1 seems reasonable to me. It's hard to say whether his response will be the same or not, but I know you can handle the numbers. It would be nice if he can hold his bounce to yellow/pink instead of black (please, Gus?).

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+1=280/+6=297/+7=386;R.1

I needed to know where Gus was going, so I tested and there you go! He was >600 when I gave him .25R yesterday and considering that he is at a lower # at the moment, I felt more comfortable giving .1R. I will definitely be getting a +1,+2, and +3 because he very well may have a new sliding scale for R. It would seem logical if he did. Thanks, Libby. And lots of thanks for the tutoring this AM, Laurie. Good data collected.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS/+7=386/R.1/+1R=387

I'm able to get the R+1 but don't know about the +2. There are strong thunderstorms coming into the area and Gus is petrified of thunder! He tries to hide and is a wreck until the noise passes. I promise nothing but will do my very best. So, if there is no post, it's not because I forgot. My poor boy, he doesn't need to have another bought with unexplained fear.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS/+7=386/R.1/+1R=387/+2R=383

386, 387, 383. This shows me that Gus responds exactly the same to this dose of R as he did prior to his dental. .1R held him and possibly held down a food spike. .25R was good for approx. 100 pt. drop and was used when he was in the 300-450 range. .5R was used to yank him down from the stars and keep him on the meter. So, for now, .1R still holds him steady. I will make no assumptions concerning any other R dose. I am going to follow Laurie's reccommendation that I get an AM +10 and +11.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+11=484/ New Dose?

Obviously 3.5U isn't enough and yesterday's 9U was way too much. Can I give yet another new dose tonight? Maybe something like 6U, an amount in between the 2 others. Gus' next shot is due in .5 hr. Thanks

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+11=484/ New Dose?

Bev --

That makes sense to me but let me see if I can find Libby. She's been following Gus more closely than I have.

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+11=484/ New Dose?

it makes sense to me too. Maybe that will be a dose we can work up or down from. I would give some R too...

Re: 5/20 Gus AMPS 105/+11=484/ New Dose?

I just wanted to pop in and say wow, what a crazy day you've had! You are coming through it great! Good luck with the shot tonight!

Gus is flat out snoring in his kitty bed. For an older guy, he sure is rallying from his dental like a trooper. Just have to get him leveled out.

You're doing great, Bev. :-D Good luck with the new dose! It may take a little adjusting to figure out what he needs, but you'll get there.

Sorry I had to leave suddenly today....I had forgotten about the doctor's appointment until my phone reminded me. I'm glad Libby was able to stop in and give you a hand with the R.

What drama today! Bev, you handled everything so well! Good luck with the new dose. Following Gus' progress is a real learning experience for so many of us. Have a good evening and keep up the good work.

Ella & Rusty
