NDW is a pain in my a$$. Seriously. We haven't had a week like this since I first joined! And Cobb was back on 2-3units. I am SO conflicted on what to do next. I just don't know.

Have I induced bounces with my R usage? I don't see him dropping too low or way too fast. That wouldn't really explain this morning's high either because he didn't get any R overnight.

I'm actually calling Cobb's get today. I looked at his SS and noticed his numbers started climbing about 2 weeks after the dental. It did coincide with the dip to 39. But all of that also coincided with the Covenia wearing off. I know, I know...don't yell at me about the Covenia. I wonder...if an infection could have developed. I looked as best as I could last night and didn't see anything. Then again, I know how bad it hurts when Cobb bites me. I'm not stupid.

So...talk to me about next steps. I would really rather not have to take a trip back to Columbia. It's about 4 hours away and a PITA with Matty in the backseat by myself. Add a cat into the mix? I might not make it back. We are going to Cola at the end of June, but I would hate for him to be this high, unexplained, for that long. Has anyone had a vet prescribe an AB over the phone? Anything you can recommend for a possible infection?

Cobb does not appear to be sick in anyway. His coat is awesome. And I combed him last night...NO DANDRUFF! I can't tell you the last time he didn't have dandruff back around his magic spot. The matter fur that he did have near his backside is almost all gone. If he would stay still for 5 minutes I could comb the rest of it out. His appetite is fine...not overly hungry, not not eating. He's peeing and pooping fine.

We did have to put a gate at the bottom of the stairs so he isn't coming down as much, so I haven't seen him groom, but like I said above, his fur feels glorious. And purring? I went to get a test and he purred all the way through it, so no problem there. He been loving, but not overly clingy.

There is nothing to suggest (I know cats hide it well) that Cobb is sick in anyway besides the FD/IAA/acro/whatever.

I am open to your (affordable) suggestions! Cobb will be 12 in two weeks.

Re: 5/20 Cobb AMPS 474 +1.5 446 +3 346 - infection???

Cobb is coming down at a pretty good clip at +3 so I fed him a little bit of food. I think his schedule is packed this morning with napping, sunbathing and some more napping. Hopefully he'll fit a snack in there too.

Re: 5/20 Cobb AMPS 474 +1.5 446 +3 346 - infection???

usually there are some symptoms of an infection, although we do know that they can definitely cause higher blood sugar.

If there were any way to get tests, i'd run the white blood cell count (which usually increases with an infection) and maybe check for a bladder infection, just since those are so common. You could call the vet and ask if she could suggest anything you could check yourself.

if his tooth site were infected, he might be pawing at it or not wanting to eat on that side (tipping his head while he chews, perhaps?)

And while it's not a great idea to give ABs without knowing what you're giving them for, because you're in another state, perhaps the vet would order one round of an AB - clindamycin is good against mouth cavity bacteria (anaerobic) - to see if they bring down his numbers.

Other than that, I don't know.

I know that garlic is a great natural anti-biotic. If you could put some fresh garlic, or pop open a garlic oil capsule and put that in his food, it might help.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with Cobb.

I have a call into the vet. Sent her Cobb's spreadsheet as well.

I looked as best as I could in his mouth. I don't see any redness or inflammation. I don't really watch him eat but I haven't noticed him tilting to one side or the other when I see him.

I think garlic is toxic to cats.

garlic and onion both, so better save that for people. i think it's true that it helps people, though.

Hi Suzanne, I hope that your vet can come up with some suggestions. But from your description of Cobb's behavior and his appearance, it sure doesn't seem as if he is sick. Sending you some all-purpose vines!

p.s. I have read that garlic, onions, and everything from that family is toxic to cats. That's the reason why, if we have to use baby food occasionally for our kitties, we have to be careful to read the label to make sure that the meat broth doesn't contain onion.

Re: 5/20 Cobb AMPS 474 +1.5 446 +3 346 +4.75 222 +7 249 +9 1

I see Cobb is finally starting to work that extra juice. :-D

Cats are pretty good at hiding distress. Most UTI's you'd get some back and forth to the litter box, but not always. A "simple" test you might be able to do with Cobb is test his temperature. Although if he won't sit still 5 minutes for combing, not sure how easy that's going to be. :?

Love to hear that his coat is improving and he's feeling playful. It's always important to focus on the cat and how he is feeling. High numbers go away.

I talked to the vet. She's very happy we're using the R insulin to manage Cobb's numbers. She was pretty impressed with the spreadsheet.

She said I should be able to see an infection in his mouth so she wasn't too worried about that. She also said since he's attitude and coat are good, she doesn't want me to bring him in. Since the 400+ numbers have only been for a few days, and since they are moving with the R, she said hold out for a little bit longer and see if his behavior changes.

Hope he is working this extra juice. We'll see in about an hour or so...

You can often smell a mouth infection too. Nothing like good catitude.

Woot! Back in blue for tonight's preshot. I'll have to keep a close eye on him tonight, but with such a drop, I expect a bounce.

This disease is such a freakin' rollercoaster for your emotions! I'm wiped out today!!

I love that she said, "you have a better handle on his dosing decisions. I wouldn't even try to tell you what to do."

Finally...a vet I can work with.

There's really nothing like 24/7 experience - and you've been doing this for a year now. She may end up sending people to you for dosing advice! :-D

Very nice pre shot color tonight Cobb. ;-) I'm so so happy about your Vet! One less thing to worry about and she trusts you 110%.
If you must bounce sir, don't go too high and don't stay there for long ok! Momma would love for you to hang out on the blue floor. She says the color looks good on you.

I'll be like, "ok...the first thing you have to do is join FDMB. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Have you met Julie, Wendy, Marje and Sienne?"
